Seeing Christoph Waltz face Craig towards the end was super!

I hope I can rocket him to my favourite villain behind Max Zorin and knock Franz Sanchez from #2!

The more I've thought about it, influenced a bit I dare say by the trailer's none to subtle musical influence, the more Spectre might be harking back to, or maybe re-working OHMSS. Consider;

1) Bond has a run in with M and it appears has quit or been sacked (OHMSS - Bond resigns after a run in with M)

2) Moneypenny helping out? (OHMSS - Moneypenny "cancels" Bond's resignation)

3) The leading lady is the daughter of an outlaw (for Draco read White - but unlike Draco, Bond and White have history)

4) The alpine scenes, though in fairness other Bond films have of course used snow and mountains as backdrops.

5) Oberhauser's dress sense - not unlike that of Telly Savalas' Blofeld.

6) The "family background" issue. In OHMSS it was important to Blofeld - here it seems to have something to do with Bond and/or Oberhauser. I'm harking back to the teaser trailer in March here and Bond's "secret". Unless, and here I'm speculating, Oberhauser is the outwardly respectable front for a more sinister villain - just as De Bleachamp was in OHMSS.

I guess the only scene which reminds me of another movie involving SPECTRE is the large meeting hall, a kind of much grander version of the boardroom scene in TB - save that it wasn't disrupted by 007 and we never saw Blofeld's face of course.

"The cause of Bond's pain" - the trailer suggests there's a link between what has happened to Craig's Bond in the previous films. The loss of Vesper? The deaths of Mathis and Fields?  The mass murder in the MI6 HQ and the death of M? It's been suggested here that Oberhauser set up SPECTRE to get at Bond. I don't think so - I think Christoph Waltz's character is suggesting that Bond has been fighting SPECTRE all along and didn't know it, with all the personal loss Bond suffered as a result. But, if there is a link between Bond and Oberhauser that goes back decades - maybe the latter murdered Bond's parents? As the late Alec Trevelyan remarked; "one of life's little ironies".

And, as Heaven knows we've been wondering from the outset - is Oberhauser a new rebooted Blofeld, or does the new SPECTRE not involve Blofeld at all? As Sam Mendes promised there's a bit of teasing and mischief going on here - indeed the whole nod in this trailer towards OHMSS might also be a bit of misdirection. As ever, we shall see on, now 26th October in UK.

I'm a little "meh" at how M seems to be involved in action again. Granted, not sure if it's more or less than 'Skyfall', but why are all MI6 staff now also used so much in action/danger.

Can't we just keep them to the crucial scenes in / around MI6 itself?

Grander? The SPECTRE meeting in TB looks, like, a million times better. Maybe more.

I'd entirely missed that. Thought it was Waltz. Good spot!

It clearly is Waltz!

He even speaks that line in the german dubbed version of the trailer.

Yeah - the fact that the same dubbing actor as Waltz speaks the line in the dubbed versions confirms it's Waltz.

Are you sure about this? I'll take your word for it but it *could* be a different voice actor, to my ear.

In reply to Mr Wint, the setting looks grander for the meeting in Spectre, but personally I prefer the original boardroom in TB myself. As for meting out punishment to SPECTRE types who fall foul, I may be wrong but it looks as if they've done away with electric chairs and pihirana fish in favour of being beaten to a pulp by Mr Hinx! :-)

I think it's mainly because of the calibre of the actors they have behind the camera. Fiennes and Dench are quality performers and the writers/Bond team are looking for more content for them to sink their teeth into. I've come to accept that's just how things are now.

I agree, sharpshooter, that they need more screen-time for their buck, but Dench in 'GE' and 'TND' was perfect - a commanding presence at MI6 and around London/Government officials.

It's when they start to leave to head into danger which they wouldn't ever do. Fiennes had it there in 'SF' in scenes with M and at Whitehall, it's just when the guns come out and the action starts; he's the Head of the Security Services, not a field operative and shouldn't be involved so much in the action.

Give him more scenes like he had in 'SF' and I'll be happy if this counters the action he has in 'SP'...or is it just 'S'...? :P

On watching again - or rather listening to the music - the opening bars as the studio credits come up do sound a little bit like the opening bars of Thunderball. Are the film makers trying to tell us something, with OHMSS already quite obviously referenced? Such as "Bond is back - and it's a bit like the 1960s"? ;-)

Checked with multiple dubbed versions (Russian, German and Spanish) - it's Waltz's character speaking the line.

Anyone notice this gruesome fate? Seems like Hinx is going to be a real nasty brute, and SPECTRE still isn't the best team to let down!

Not something I was missing from the old days. Great challenge to make it hype again (if it has ever been) ;-)

Love how they are sure that helicopters can't do a roll like in the trailer - flat out, no. Lot of things THEY know then. Jeez.

For those also wanting to pick this trailer apart - I'm uploading a set of hi-res (without the YouTube compression) screencaps right now....as well as a "super HD 1080p" version of the trailer with 5.1 hi-res surround audio for downloading and playing on your home cinema setups :D

I wasn't blown away by the trailer, but my son who has remained spoiler free was. I think we're in for a great ride when this comes out. I loved the OHMSS theme cuts in the music background. All that remains now is the main theme, and one does have to wonder if Mendes gave us a clue by saying we didn't have to wait long (perhaps an instrumental main theme - with a song by a star during the credits?) Probably not, but one could wish.
And I say the line that everyone thinks is Waltz is a combination of him and Andrew. It begins and ends with Waltz, the middle is another voice.

Nice one antovolk!

Really great pics. Seydoux has a real fire to her in them, and Craig with them icy blue eyes stand out very well.

Plus, Craig's face when Waltz looks up to him is priceless.

Why does the shooting target have Bond's face on it?... Could it be a Spectre firing range?...

I like Waltz's lair, or the place with all the computers and crew. TB Spectre meeting room meets Drax's MR jungle base.

Overall the trailer looks really entertaining.

I like everything going for it except for Moneypenny and Bond's dialog, feels forced like in SF.

The new DBS* looks amazing and I'm guessing it's reinforced to make it bullet proof, I mean it takes the roof off a car lol.

I don't know if helicopters can do that but it looks great and is a lovely homage to LALD. At least there isn't a whistle, not that I mind it.

The plane scene looks awesome and can't wait to see how that unfolds.

Having had time to properly digest the trailer, I can safely say we are in for a remarkable movie.. Will it be as good as Skyfall? Yes..not sure if it will surpass it.. Time will tell.. But it's safe to say we have another winner on our hands.. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but I am STOKED we get to see Bond in a Day of The Dead mask and costume! Something I was hoping for when the pics from the Mexico shoot surfaced..

If it wasn't obvious that Waltz was Blofeld before now, then the outfit he wears in the trailer pretty much confirms it.

A good, strong trailer. Between the two trailers, they're giving away more than I expected, but now the basic narrative sweep of the film is out there to discuss.

The use of the OHMSS theme was unexpected, but welcome (if we hear it in the film itself, I'll go bananas). The film looks lovely and expensive.

It really does look expensive. Even more so than SF.

And practical effects seem to be the real winners this year in movies. Fortunately.

It's so strange. The more I hear the English trailer, the more I'm convinced it's Andrew Scott speaking in the middle. The sing-song tone is precisely the same as his delivery in other roles, most notably in Sherlock.

I don't doubt it's Oberhauser in other languages my ear isn't native to though.

Bizarre.
