This is going to be a seriously awesome sequence.
Based on the above clips, potentially the best in the franchise. All the necessary ingredients are all there.

Awesome footage and love that gif!
But that video with the Jag INCHES from slamming into the rear of the Aston...oooooooh that was good evasion!
And, don't you all think to make this scene stand-out, as the Aston and Jag roar by, we need one of these:

At around 1:04 in that video, is that what I think it is? Are they're really going through a gate in the Leonine Wall? This would mean that they're actually shooting in the Vatican. Anyhow, with a car chase getting shot this close to St Peter, I guess the Pope fell out of bed and lost a bit of sleep last night

You're right, Stromberg. If my memory doesn't fail, the gate you see the cars passing through is the so called "Passetto" and in the past was used by the Popes to escape and reach Castel Sant'Angelo in case of necessity.

Ah, thanks for the info, Luigi. Found it now. But the Passetto (di Borgo) is not part of the wall that marks the border between Italy and Vatican. The moments before they pass the gate, they're exactly on the border, and one could say that both rear ends of the cars cross it when going around that corner. Just trying to be sure about that for future trivia challenges...

The chase is on! Tonight the second unit has moved to the river Tiber to film scenes along the river banks near the Ponte Santa Margherita bridge.

Meanwhile preparations for the grand finale are well underway near the Ponte Sisto bridge, apparently.

Luigi, this is awesome!
I was wondering how they could make the Tiber chase interesting, seeing how the river is deeply embanked and barely visible from the lungotevere. Now it seems the chase is not on the lungotevere, but on the very edge of the river (which is not at all a place for cars), and even on the slopy walls of embankments, it seems!

Man, the color of those headlights look damn cool!
Posted 04 March 2015 - 08:45 PM
Very blue.
Michael Mann's colour of choice was blue and it works a treat.
However, this might just be halogen headlights...

I'd like to take the opportunity to say a big Thank You, Muitíssimo Obrigado and Mille Grazie to both Marketto and Luigi Ferrari on behalf of CommanderBond.net for their tireless work. HID (xenon) headlights, I suppose.

It will all come down to the editing.
For my insignificant part, I enjoyed the QoS chase as the editing was tight, and the excitement manifest. The argument for 'too tight' is probably still out there.
That said, I do think the Top Gear (UK TV program) guys can probably make a chase between milk floats exciting and I do wonder if they would be the best choice to hand such matters to (in the same way Willy Bogner did all the ski chases and Remy Julienne did all the car chases of old).
I did think the motorcycle chase over the rooftops in Skyfall was a bit flat. And I think the train ride in the same movie was just awful. Way too much set up and exposition for today's audience to have to wade through.
The locales in this (SPECTRE) chase are just wonderful though. I hope the geography and the excitement can manifest themselves in the final edit.

It's a delicate balance between coherence and urgency. I can follow the Quantum of Solace chase perfectly fine (any complaints leveled against the editing in that film for me tend to be directed at the quieter scenes being cut as aggressively as the actions scenes), but I do think slowing things down a tiny bit and allowing the vehicles to work their way around the frame will result in a similarly exhilarating chase. The geography of this scene in particular has a certain grandeur that I think would be compromised if it were edited similarly to the Lake Garda sequence. I'm very excited to see what they end up with, because the stunt work appears to be top notch. Love the way the Aston whips through the streets in an almost unwieldy fashion. Very cool stuff.

They were (supposedly) brought in to film the chase in the new Sweeney film - I wonder if you still want them on a Bond film after this...

Thanks a lot, Stromberg, Vauxhall, Major Tallon, Marketto007, for the kind words.
It is a great pleasure for me to share with all of you members of CBN the latest news from the Italian set of Spectre.
I take this opportunity to thank back all of you who have contributed and still contribute to keep us updated with news about the whole world of 007. I will not say the names just to avoid forgetting anyone, but, believe me, you are numerous and tireless. Long live CBN!
And now, in anticipation of new videos and pictures from Rome - shooting at Scalo de Pinedo promise to be fantastic - here are two videos still unpublished and an article that reveals what goes on behind the scenes to allow the smooth running of the shoot:
