Elements of this are in other threads, but I thought it worthwhile starting a spoiler thread for when details start seeping out. Probably worth doing one for Morocco as well.

Not a spoiler as such, but the BOND 24 production office is now established in Rome:

I was really hoping that Italy wouldn't be featured in this Bond movie. It already was in both Casino Royale and QoS, there are way more places to visit around the world.

Moreover, I hate Italy.

Unfortunately (well, not for me, since I love Italy!), this country is very picturesque, so it just looks damn good in movies. Plus, almost any landscape can be found there, which is quite convenient.

But I agree, there are to many places Bond has never visited before (such as Poland, for example  :)), so it's a bit strange, that they want to go back to Italy again.

In the updated biography they created for Bond on the CASINO ROYALE website, it was said the character was previously based in Rome before become a 00. Doubt the filmmakers would remember that, but would be a smart reference if they did.

I agree. I love Italy, but honestly it really is overused I think. Poland would be great. I, personally, want Bond to return to the Iberian peninsula. He's only been there 3 times: Portugal in OHMSS, an uncredited appearance near Madrid in FYEO and inside an office in Bilbao for four minutes of TWINE's PTS. There are so many incredible places here for Bond to traverse: Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, the wine fields of La Rioja. He could do battle with the Basque separatists or Franco sympathizers or have a chase through the streets of Cadiz during Carnival.

Italy is lovely, indeed, but It's been in Bond films, specifically two of Craig's film, not to mention everyone's seen Rome in countless other films. Craig's bond has been to the Prague, Madagascar, The Bahamas, Miami, Montenegro, Italy (Lake Como, Venice, Lake Garda, Siena), Austria, Bolivia, Russia, Istanbul, China (Shanghai, Macau), and Scotland.

I would love for Bond to go to Brazil. Rio de Janiero was feautured in Moonraker, albeit not in a huge manner. Other locations I'd love to be featured are Spain and Monaco.

I like everyone's ideas so far. I'd like to throw Hawaii, New Zealand and perhaps the Rocky Mountains into the mix as well.

Hawaii seems interesting. I like New Zealand a lot actually. There can be an aerial shot of the Rocky Mountains with Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" plays in the background.

I figured that LOTR and The Hobbit have done a good job of showcasing New Zealand in a fantasy scenario - why not have it feature in a modern day realistic-ish thriller a la Bond?

I'd be fine with it. It's really strange that in 50 years Bond has never made it to the land down under (Australia or New Zealand). Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time he's ever been to Australia was in Raymond Benson's Zero Minus Ten, I believe.

Wow, I've never looked at that before. I'd be down for Bond in Australia. I'd also like to see Bond in South Africa too, particularly, Joburg.

Okay, I'm convinced. Australia should be seriously considered as a location in the near future. Curious, that such important (and somehow exotic, at least for us Europeans) country of Commonwealth has never been used in Bond series before.
By the way, seawolfnyy, that part of "Zero Minus Ten" (with dingoes particularly) was great.

Arctic Canada and Australian desert for Bond 25! We've seen enough of Italy in Bond films, how about Germany, Spain, Nordic Countries?

Made this thread to keep this thread strictly about Italy for Bond 24. Also prevents going Off topic.

Not being an Italian, I'm aware of your problems with organized crime (very strange situation indeed), but such acute and bitter opinion like yours is something you never hear outside Italy. I haven't, for sure..

It's an absurd theory, full of commonplaces and things like this contribute to destroy a country.
P.S. I'm italian, I lived here since my birth, I'm certainly not a criminal, I don't have nothing to do with politic or politicians, I've travelled quite a lot and I can assure you that out there, even in the most celebrated cities, there are a lot of problems, sometimes even more than in Italy, but they keep them quite.
So, a part from the fact that this is not so-Bond related, please don't generalize and don't contribute to expand Italy's bad image

Italy: I'm fine with Rome. As some rumors, here and there, have it, a major car chase may be the center piece and in Rome (having driven there myself long ago) that can be dicey even when not being chased or chasing someone about.

As to other locales. I've got three I've been all for going back for almost twenty years.

Australia is certainly one of them. Sydney has a lot to offer, but Perth is also a great major port. Either has plenty to offer and one of the major locales. MI:2 made good use of Sydney. At one point, back in the early days of what would become our beloved CBn, there were notions that DAD would be shot there and that it was always considered for some part of TWINE. After MI:2, there wasn't anymore talk.

Lisbon: Still the hot-bed of real world espionage today as it was in both WWII and the Cold War. If you're looking for a lot of various ex-pat intelligence officers, that's where to find them. Also a very stylish city.

Hawaii: Bond hasn't been there yet either. Go with either Hawaii, Maui, Molokai or Kauai. All have much to offer. I've got a list of ideas for Maui (one of my personal favorite escapes when I can). If anyone needs ideas for a vacation, let me know.  B)

As an extra, my home town: Seattle. Lovely place, Space Needle and some major business, tech and military - i.e. Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing and the worldwide coffee chain. Also, the Trident submarine base in Bangor.

BOT though - Do we know anything else at present about Rome or Italy? Naples is lovely too.

Bryce, I'd go for a Pacific Northwest adventure too. Seattle, Portland, maybe even Vancouver...

And hopefully the Rome chase has something truly stellar to separate it from your standard action movie car chase

Indeed. Don't put the odds in Bond's favor ala' FYEO. I did like the chase in the first of the Bourne films with the old mini which utilized it's size over performance in narrow streets. Maybe have a small foot chase leading up to it. There's a a lot of ways that it could be interesting.

P.S. - If Eon should ever choose Seattle, I've got pages of ideas and locales from the casual to the extreme.  B)

Seconded (Thirded?)

Bring Bond to Seattle! Lots of possibilities here...Seaplane chase on Lake Union? Fight on top of Space Needle? Footchase in the Market, dodging flying fish? Meeting Felix secretly at 1 a.m. for a Dick's Deluxe and a shake?

Endless possibilities...

LOL  dtuba - Most of what you describe sounds like most of my high school years.

*pulls hand brake*

BOT!

Had another though about Italy and that being the ruins of Pompeii. Seems likely that Rome is just going to be a sort of stop over in this one though. Bond following a lead but then moving on. Then again, it could be that this may be the locale for the PTS.

Lots to ponder...

Pompeii is nice, but I'd rather see Herculaneum. It's less known and actually somewhat nicer, I think.

Perhaps more importantly, the buildings of Pompeii are structurally delicate, and several are in danger of collapse.  If scenes are to be set there (which we do not know), they'd have to re-build the city on a set.

As Bond novice can someone tell me how many times we've already been in Italy? What about a fight on the tower of piza?
