This will be a big week for me personally.
It will be the week that Sam Smith is added to my iPod. And the ONLY reason he ever will be, thanks to 007.

Sounds great to me. Slight Thunderball vibe I think. There's been a bit of snarkiness and cynicism on here towards Sam Smith over the past couple of weeks, perhaps even reminiscent of Craig's initial casting. I'm optimistic though.

Sounds exotic enough. Lovely. And yes, Newman should have fun with that melody. Very Thunderballish.

I can hear that coming in straight after Mexico City to launch the titles. As you say, instrumental is pretty much 50% of winning the battle, and this sounds great already - 'Thunderball' indeed, with hints of that dreamy 'Goldfinger' cool jazz also.
Can't wait!

Excellent.

This snippet definetly makes it sound like we will be getting a very classic Bond sounding theme- (possibly even more than Skyfall.)
Of course we will have to listen to the full thing to see if Sam Smith's voice (and lyrics) live up to the promise of this first snippet.

Oh wow, lot more Barryesque than I was expecting!

It sounds almost identical to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to me - admittedly not a terrible thing but I dunno... just finding it really difficult to get excited about a Sam Smith song.

Sounds glorious.
Bit of Thunderball, bit of 'All because the lady loves Milk Tray' (might not be impressing with that last cultural reference), Barry's horns etc.

Sounds good, so far. The Thunderball/You Only Live Twice-esque vibe is a nice nod to the past.

Wow! This sample sounds positively great! I'm impressed. Can't wait to hear the whole piece...

I only have a problem with his voice, so hopefully it will compliment this beautiful orchestra rather than hinder it (IMO).
Come on Sam. PLEASE prove me wrong just this once.

Totally agree.
So far, so good. I'm just concerned what it will sound like when the sound of a cat running over hot coals accompanied by a really badly tuned violin kick in.

Exactly!
Play it again, Sam, but do proves us wrong.

I'm a bit confused by the unpleasantness of several members' comments about Sam Smith. Is it simply because he has a high singing voice? For members of an online forum to call him a 'goon' with a voice like 'a cat running over hot coals' who sings 'horseshit' songs seems a bit much.

Agreed. If you already hate the singer, you're more likely to hate the product no matter what it sounds like ("I have to hate it - everyone else does!").
I had no opinion on Keyes & White doing a Bond song until after I heard their attempt.
I for one am willing to take a chance on being surprised by Smith despite the vitriol and invective being laid on him already.

Sample sounds good. Very good, to be honest.

Off to a good start! Sounds like he got the Bondian flavor right, or at least the orchestral arranger did. It'll be interesting to hear what he does with it, vocally. (I remember the backing instrumentation for "AWTD" sounding good -- someone spotted in a commercial for one of the product tie-ins -- but the vocals didn't match the rest once added in).
I also like the visuals in the clip: looks very dark, steely & monochromatic, and disorienting. Wonder if it's part of Kleinman's work in the opening titles.
