He will be. Paramount already confirmed his involvement with Star Trek 3 (or 13 depending on how you are counting) as well as the next Mission: Impossible film.

Another exciting development for the fans! Seems the 'Star Wars' machine is really going into hyperdrive!!
http://www.comingsoo...ws.php?id=99937
The Star Wars cinematic galaxy is about to experience a Big Bang. Lucasfilm is officially announcing new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways.
One of the standalone films will be written by Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and co-writer of Return of the Jedi while the other will be penned by Simon Kinberg, writer of Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The movies will be separate from the upcoming Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, on which Kasdan and Kinberg are also consulting, and are expected to be released sometime after Episode VII. Each standalone film will focus on a specific character, and two spinoff films are currently confirmed.
In a call to investors, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, revealed while the original focus was on the highly-anticipated sequel trilogy, the idea of spinoff films was bandied about early and the additional films are now becoming a reality. "We are in development of a few standalone films," he said, "that are not part of the Star Wars saga...there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films."

Part of me wants the series to just be over, but part of me is interested in what they will do.

Spin off films?
Well, I think it's safe to say Disney are milking this for all it's worth.

Potential Han Solo and Boba Fett spinoffs. Who would play a young Han Solo though?

Reports are saying it is a young Han Solo and Boba Fett, but nothing official yet.
It's exciting....but I'm worried it's going to be too much of a good thing. I know you never CAN have too much of a good thing, but with 'Star Wars' they've got to get it right or it will be a disaster. Disney has to get the audience back on side before possibly toying and changing their childhood heroes like Solo and Fett, especially if they incorporate them into a very family friendly CGI-fest and lose the bones of the darker characters.
It's getting that perfect balance. And THEN you've got the casting...lots of people are going to be thrilled and dozens more annoyed when casting is announced.
Still....Daniel Craig proved everyone wrong when it comes to beating up actors in a coveted role...!

I guess the problem with the Star Wars "side-quels" is that they really want/need continuity in the stories.
Bond can be recast again and again.
But to re-cast a Star Wars-character, a major one like Han Solo even... Boy, that will be extremely difficult. Even if it is supposed to be a young Han Solo.
Who could be a young Harrison Ford, one of the most recognizable and famous actors on the planet?
And although I am a fan of Nathan Fillion, I never understood why many journalists always pointed to him as being Harrison Ford´s successor when FIREFLY / SERENITY was still going on. They have completely different acting styles.
Frankly, I don´t know anybody who could pass for a young Harrison Ford these days. One of a kind guy.
But I´m looking forward to their choice anyway. Because, let´s be honest, who woudnt´t want to see a Han Solo-stand alone film?

Exactly - I just hope they handle him the way he should be, and not tarnish the character. I suppose they managed to do a young Obi-Wan perfectly with Ewan McGregor, I just hope they acheive the same if Han Solo is their next character.

I can't imagine them doing a Han Solo origin story or whatever when there are so many characters available right now like Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Boba Fett, Vader, etc. Makes my head spin thinking about it.

Think is, I reckon they're going to go for the most obvious ones - the fan favourites, the ones that everyone knows to get more audiences in seats really.
For hard-core fans, Qui-Gon, Palpatine, Lando and even Wicket the Ewok would be great to see, but it sounds like it will be those popular characters from the original trilogy who may feature in the new ones, so these are almost "refresher" stories and giving a bit of further flesh to them. I don't think it's any one from the prequel era, so I reckon it's the fan favourites who will get it.

Is there a more popular Star Wars protagonist than Han Solo?
#75
Posted 07 February 2013 - 02:20 PM
...for the casual fan and audience I don't think so? Maybe younger new fans may say Darth Maul or Obi-Wan Kenobi...but encompassing the whole saga, generally, I'd say everyone loves Han Solo!

Close but no cigar. And he does not have the Ford-ian swagger.

Although..............someone did play a young Harrison Ford once, and in the same movie as Harrison himself.

Your talking about Fett right? The story is he survived the Sarlacc pit by throwing a grenade into it. They could always do a prequel though. I would think this character would be better suited for Episode VII, perhaps he collected all the left over clones.

Are you talking about Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade? Because River Phoenix who played young Indiana Jones died of a drug overdose shortly afterwards or I believe would have gotten the part in the Young Indiana Jones tv series.

Yeah, Fett is still alive in the canon of 'Star Wars' so he could appear in the new trilogy still, and of course have a film based before 'TESB'.
I think the problem with Obi-Wan is now we've seen his spirit as Alec Guiness with Hayden Christensen at the end of 'ROTJ', Ewan McGregor will have to be made up to BE Alec Guiness, the same age and style as of course the spirit never ages. So this could be done but will be a big risk... unless Lucas goes and tinkers with the film and replaces Guiness with Ewan!!

Oh no I was talking about Obi-Won. I mean in the Jimmy Fallon interview they said if someone talked to Ewan McGregor and that's what my comment was referring to.

Well anyone can play Boba Fett. All he does is wear a mask. I did hear a rumor that they may get Temuera Morrison who played Jango Fett in Ep 2, which would make sense as Boba Fett is a clone of Jango. As for Han, I think the only fair way to pick a new actor would be for Disney to have a contest and whoever can complete the Kessel Run in less than 12 Parsecs gets it.

It can be done, I reckon........I hope.

Going to go into a pro/con about having the original actors in Episode VII
Pros
-Mark Hamill & Carrie Fisher would be nice to see back as Luke and Leia on the big screen
-Validates the Expanded Universe (novels and comics)
-Allows the Solo and Skywalker children to grow into the roles of their parents
-Excites the hard core fans who have followed Star Wars since EU began in the 90's
Cons
-Having the original actors would be large and difficult to explain (Average movie going fan hasn't read the EU)
-New actors portraying the original characters could generate new fans (See Star Trek)
-Disney has a lot of money, but not enough to bring back Harrison Ford.
-If future sequels feature the Solo & Skywalker children, we can get to see who Luke marries
And the biggest negative about Episode VII IMO is we won't hear the Fox drum-roll. Always excited me to hear that theme

yes, that is true
for me as a long time fan it's just still completely unbelievable there will be more films. i mean all we've known for so long is that Ep6 ends the story.
as for recasting Han Solo, to me this would be a bad idea. Han came to life with Ford playing him. to have someone come in and try to mimic Ford would not work imo. I also wonder how these 'stand alone' films would work. Star Wars is an ensemble movie(movies) to break one off by himself would be far less interesting. a Boba Fett movie might be the most interesting. i'd like to see the young Fett, prior to A New Hope, clawing his way up by himself, instead of a Post-ROTJ Fett.
