Just because he denies it, doesn't mean it isn't true. That said, I think the film may be real. As to whether Snyder is involved, we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think I've seen a film recently under so much speculation, rumour and debate about what's going on!

The sooner the official developments come, the better as this is getting boring now - we want details of 'Episode VII', not everything else about Star Wars itself!

Its disappointing nothing has come out yet, as I recall they were hoping to announce something this month.

I've spent the better part of the last 3 hours trying to figure out if this is actually true or not and have come up with absolutely nothing.

Mind blowing news IMO, and after he denied it. I'm actually a little disappointed.

Seems like a conflict of interest, are we going to see Star Trek cameos in Star Wars films etc. Where is the line.

Star Wars,. . Star Trek, nerd overload., ....

Well...

First: I love J.J. AbramsĀ“ work. Having him do STAR WARS is a great idea, and he will deliver.

I only fear that he will stop doing STAR TREK now. He surely canĀ“t do both franchises. But change is good, so... who can take on STAR TREK next?

Has this been OFFICIALLY confirmed yet by JJ or his agents? It's just the speculation and near-confirmation at the moment, like Adele singing 'Skyfall'.

I need to see something official before I can take this as granted from the man directing 'Trek' as well, if he would be brave enough to do 'Wars' in the Star genre of things.

Sounds good though, at least things would be moving forward and I feel if JJ is directing, then he will get the mix of CGI and live-action perfect as he did with 'Star Trek' back in 2009.

I was somewhat OK with the news until I read further into the article and found out that Ben Affleck was the runner-up.  Aside from ALIAS and, to a far lesser extent MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, I've been underwhelmed by just about everything that Abrams has done.  Affleck, assuming that ARGO is the film that everyone says it is (it's the only of Affleck's three films I have yet to see), has yet to direct a film that isn't of the highest caliber, and he would have been a better and at the same time much riskier choice for the studio (i mean that in a good way).  Abrams is a safe choice, but I fear that this is the first of many safe choices Disney will be making with the franchise.

I don't think it actually has been confirmed or denied. I just through out the news, I wonder if there will be an official message about this soon.

That's what I'm waiting for too. 'Episode VII' so far has been built on nothing but rumour and speculation so something official from base camp will be greatly recieved!

I've been hoping its not true, it does seem like a safe choice and I'm not completely comfortable with the Star Wars and Star Trek connection. But it does seem to be a done deal, everyone is reporting it and I imagine J.J. isn't going to say anything until Into Darkness is complete and in theaters.

Here's some speculation about the lead role being a woman [1] I imagine it would be really cool if there were twin jedi.

J.J. Abrams OFFICIALLY named 'Star Wars' director

Our first official bit of news! Well, let's get the hyperdrive fired up and get on with this!

It's strange how JJ has turned out to be the man soley responsible for bringing both 'Star...' franchises back from the dead in a matter of years!

Good luck to him...I have faith...!

Maybe all the Jedi will get crash land on a strange planet and have to deal with a giant deadly smoke monster.

I think we'll be okay with Abrams. He's certainly the best director Star Wars has had since Irvin Kirshner did Empire.

Apparently when J.J signed on he did not agree to a release date, so perhaps he'll push it back a year like he did with Into Darkness. [1]

I wonder what that means for Star Trek, if he'll return for a 3rd film or not and if he'll return for Eipsode IIX. I feel like the whole thing is just bizarre.

I think I read JJ will stay on as producer for the next 'Star Trek' film, and that's it for him Trekking, he'll be on the Wars.

Trek needs a helmsman. I wish JJ would stay at the helm.
