So, Abrams has stated that it is no accident that Luke doesn't feature in the promotional artwork or trailers (though it's believed that it is in fact Luke's hand that touches R2 and he does voiceover for the second trailer). What do you think of the rumor that Luke has in fact gone to the dark side and may even be Kylo Ren? Personally, I don't see how it's possible as Luke rejected the dark side at the very end of RotJ. Though, we also know he'd do anything to save his friends. There's also another rumor floating around that Luke is in seclusion or exile, much like Obi-Wan in Ep4 and that he's guarding some ancient Jedi/Sith relic that Kylo Ren wants. Which seems more likely: Evil Luke or Exiled, good Luke?

I'm not putting any stock into the "Luke-is-Kylo-Ren" nonsense as we've already seen actor Adam Driver in the Kylo Ren costume in a behind the scenes photo.. and I think it's pretty well established by the pics of that island in Ireland where filming took place, that Luke is in self-imposed exile, guarding whatever Kylo Ren is after..

I never really gave much credence to the Luke is Kylo Ren rumor, but evil Luke with Kylo Ren as his apprentice is intriguing. Though, I agree more the likely scenario is the self-imposed exile, being the guardian of whatever Kylo Ren is after.

he hasn't gone to the dark side.  i don't think he's in much of the movie and his whereabouts are kind of a mystery. so therefore they're leaving his appearance as a surprise.

So in that sense, he probably is guarding this tomb that contains whatever relic, Kylo Ren is looking for. Ren gets the object needed to open it, but before he can Luke appears and credits roll. Or something to that extent.

Indeed. Which leads me to believe Episode 8 could have an even bigger box-office than TFA.

New character posters for The Force Awakens!! Man, they all look great but I'm especially blown away with how lovely Leia looks.. All that training and fitness regimen has really paid off for Carrie Fisher and, I'm sure, Mark Hamill..

Carrie Fisher looks incredible and Harrison Ford also looks better than he has in a long time. Certainly better than in Crystal Skull hehe. Still no Luke, dammit. If they're hiding it this much, what he's doing must be the most important thing to happen to the Star Wars universe since, well ever. On another note, in the second trailer, when Luke is telling someone the force is strong in his family and that they have it too, who is he talking to? Personally, I believe there are two possibilities with maybe a third. The most likely to me is Rey with Finn second and a distant third being Kylo Ren.

 

Potential spoilers next, though this all just speculation gathered from the trailers and what tiny spinnets have found their way online.

 

My theory is that Rey and Kylo Ren are both related, most likely cousins, and one of them is Luke's kid, while the other is Leia's (though I'm not sure which). I think Ren blames his family for the death of his grandfather (Vader) and sets out to write the wrong. It's evident from the trailers that the events of Episodes IV-VI (and probably even I-III) have all become legend and the First Order and/or New Republic have tried to erase it from history. Any information about the force has been suppressed and only the survivors of the original trilogy know about it. However, possibly due to Kylo Ren's antics, the force has started to make a comeback (hence The Force Awakens) and people who are force-sensitive (Rey, Finn) begin to take notice. I believe that Luke is guarding some sort of tomb (I've heard it houses the remains of Darth Plagueis or some other ancient Sith/Jedi artifacts) and that Luke's old lightsaber may be the key to unlocking it. Thus, Luke shows up at the end of the film when Kylo Ren and possibly Rey/Finn find this vault. Kylo Ren gains access to it and gets what he wants, while Rey/Finn and Luke escape with the former becoming the newest Jedi apprentice.

And solace, the chap Kylo is interrogating is Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaacs, a Non-Force user pilot for the Resistance.

Luke has a beard in this new movie, so I don't think that was him...unless it was some sort of a flashback scene to a younger Luke.

No, I believe tcr is right. It's Poe Dameron. We see him being arrested in another part of the trailer.

And remember, Harrison Ford was the one who wanted Solo to perish in Return of the Jedi because he felt the character had nothing left to do. Add that to the fact that I can't envision Harrison Ford committing another five or so years of his life to more Star Wars films and it starts to make sense.

That's what I thought too and he may still die in it, but I believe that the body Rey is crying over in the trailer is Chewbacca's. The hair looks like his fur, though it could be the angle and the lighting making it appear that way and it actually is Han.
