Do you think Bond 24 will be in 3D ? I don't hope so.
The fact Skyfall is a film to make a billion without the added help of 3D really shows something. I don't think it will happen.

If it has to be 3D, I hope they'll give people the choice to see 2D, which is the way I'll go for.

I love it too! continue to see Bond character development and shows more about him

Just a couple silly costume things, but I would like to see Bond wear knitted silk ties again like in the Fleming books and the Connery films. They seem to be making a comeback in fashion and Tom Ford seems big on them. Also, I know this is unlikely because a lot of people seem to love Craig's suits in Skyfall, but I'd like to see Bond wear some better fitted suits next time. The super tight, fitted suits in Skyfall seemed overly fashionable for someone who is supposed to be archaic and represent the old school of doing things. I loved the return to the Connery-esque colour palette and fabrics, but the cut/fit left much to be desired. In my opinion, the narrow shoulders and tight fit made Craig look blocky as opposed to elegantly emphasizing his wide shoulders and athletic physique like Connery's suits did.

Not in my city, sadly.

Definitely agreed on this one. I'd say that Bond is almost in need of a complete makeover in Bond 24. Longer hair and better fitting suits would be probably the two things near the top of the list when it comes to getting the look down for Bond 24.

Indeed. Craig would look much better with the Conduit Cut.

Agreed. He had something of a similar look to that in the "Bond Girls" sketch on SNL, although that was achieved more through combing over some of his hair for a somewhat similar effect. Even that crude attempt at styling his hair in that manner gave him a more Bondian look than what he was sporting in Skyfall.

Above all else, I'd like to see a "stand-alone" Bond movie - not a reboot, a sequel, an origin story, a follow-on, a throwback - just a good yarn that follows the traditional formula closely enough to make it a Bond.
With scenes filmed in Milwaukee.
And a situation involving classical music.
And yes, a skiing scene would be nice - thanks for that.

I have to disagree slightly in regards to the hair. I think longer hair doesn't work with Craig's face. His hair is so soft and fine that longer hair over-emphasizes the cragginess of his features. Also, since his head is rather square shaped, I don't want a repeat of the QoS hairstyle. I thought it looked horrendous on him. I liked the super short hair in Skyfall because it had an older, military man look which I think is very fitting for Bond, the ex-Navy man. Also, Craig's Bond with his lazily spiked hair seems like a modern update of the literary Bond who always haphazardly combed his hair back, such that it always fell back over his right eye in a comma shape. Finally, close cropped hair like in Casino Royale has become somewhat of a standard for male professionals in business, so I don't think Bond should deviate from that too much. I need to see the SNL Bond Girls skit though. Anyone have a link that works in Canada?
EDIT: Just found a working link for the Bond Girls skit, I think that hairstyle is a great compromise. It doesn't stand out from current styling or is overly styled like Brosnan, but it's not so short that Craig suffers from the Tintin issue he had occasionally with Skyfall. Also, really like that there is a hint of a comma falling down over his right eye. Also, the fact that it is combed up and to the side as opposed to forward and to the side in QoS makes a big difference.

The hair length and cut in CASINO ROYALE was fine, although the spiked hair gel look didn't remind me of Fleming. More like what 12 year old boys do to impress the girl they sit next to in English. Side-parted (as how Craig looks in premiers) would look more Fleming, still allowing the comma of hair to fall onto the forehead, but for that you needer a much longer length on-top than in SKYFALL.
In all honesty, I thought the 2005 promo shot of Craig pointing the gun to the camera with the longer hair looked more like Fleming's commissioned drawing than anything in his films.

That's exactly the same reason why I liked his hair in the film too.

Personally, I can't stand that promo shot of Craig from 2005. To me, it looks like a lazy, half-cocked slickjob and the lone sideburns are extremely un-Bondian. I know to get the comma, Bond's hair needs to be longer on top, but if you look carefully at the Fleming commissioned sketch, the hairstyle looks really short and clean cut on the sides and back, it is essentially a Second World War military cut. In the promo shot, Craig's hair was way too long on the sides and back and, as such, in my opinion failed to convey the same clean cut, ex-military appearance. Not that I have seen it, I really love how Craig's hair was cut and styled in the SNL sketch. It is about Casino Royale length and, as such, has a very Bondian clean cut look to it, but the side part is done very well. It doesn't look archaic or too flat like in QoS or overly greased like at the Skyfall premiere.

My memory must been sketchy. Had another look at the promo shot, and you're right. The back and sides are too long, and the sideburns are more Geordie Peacock than Bond. Which makes sense, because he was in the middle of filming THE INVASION at the time. The QUANTUM cut looked like a bad attempt a Sean Connery comb-over in some scenes (the plane conversation with Mathis being the worst) and he put too much pomade on for the Royal Albert Hall SKYFALL premier, with sweat build up causing it drop. As CASINO ROYALE and SNL showed, the best look for Craig is short back and sides (scissor cut) and longer on top, blended together then side parted.
Here's a promo pic from the SNL episode:

Shark, seems we are completely in agreement!
Speaking of SNL photos, I think this screencap from the skit is perfection:
It really reminds me of Connery from Thunderball when he is eyeing down Largo during the casino scene.

I think that they did a decent job of getting Craig's look in that photo to look somewhat close to what the commissioned look was. If they hadn't had Craig on loan from his work in Baltimore working on the Nicole Kidman sci-fi vehicle The Invasion, they would have had more free reign over what they could do to his hair for that promo picture.

That's the exact picture I was thinking of when I mentioned it a few posts ago. That is more or less, although perhaps a bit more polished, the look that Bond should have for Bond 24.

Thanks for putting me onto that. How do you think he should more polished than in the photo? Obviously, he needs better tailoring, but since we both mentioned that already, I'm not quite sure what else to which you could be referring.

I wouldn't mind that hair style for Bond 24, though I'm hoping he keeps the military cut, as I think it suits him more.
Posted 11 March 2013 - 05:22 AM
The military cut makes him look older.
Posted 11 March 2013 - 05:27 AM
I disagree, respectfully. It doesn't make him look older, but it doesn't make him look younger. It was perfect (at least to me) for Skyfall as it showed Bond six years after CR & QOS and the cut made him look his age, a man in his early-to mid forties.

maybe two co-villain would be interesting, male/female combo....?

Too much like TWINE. But give me a female lead villain and I am all for it.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned this before, at least in this thread that I could find, but as part of Logan digging deeper into Bond's psyche, I think a marvelous sequence would be to force Bond into a mountain climbing situation. Either to rescue himself, or perhaps the leading lady. I know Bond climbed before in For Your Eyes Only - but they missed the marvelous opportunity then to have him suffer through the terror and psychological effects of his parent's death while in the process. I think if this was done well, with today's IMAX cameras filmed perhaps in the Alps, this could make for both a terrifying and tense sequence, yet showcase Bond overcoming an additional demon from his past.

1. The return of Quantum
2. A new James Bond actor
3. Cool Gadgets
4. Gun barrel at the beginning
5. A world domination plot
6. A fortress hideout
7. Weird hecnhmen/hechwomen
8. Absolutely no references to previous Bonds. I am tired of references.
9. Introduction of a young Blofeld as a Quantum agent.
Well, I doubt any of those things will happen. But one thing is for sure; we will not be getting another Judi Dench soap opera. Thank the heavens for that.
