The Hollywood Reporter:
"Taut, humorous and attractiveley packaged, the sequel is both fleet footed and engaging enough to captivate audiences with more than just non-stop action."
http://www.hollywood...zenegger-361161
Den Of Geek:
"Simon West has delivered again; it's a rollicking action movie, one of the most downright enjoyable of recent times. And, for me, The Expendables 3 can't come quickly enough."
http://www.denofgeek...dables-2-review
Filmonic:
"This second installment proves that even with a mediocre director and a half-decent script, the charisma of these larger-than-life performers can light up the screen and leave us with an entertaining, funny, and thrilling action movie."
http://filmonic.com/...e-expendables-2
And a couple of negative ones, to be fair...
HeyUGuys:
"There are two different sentiments taken from those who leave The Expendables 2. Those who think it's terrible but throughly enjoyed it, and those who think it's just terrible."
http://www.heyuguys....ables-2-review/
WhatCulture!:
"While it's unquestionably great to see Arnie again totaing a giant gun, The Expendables 2 fails to make the most of its game cast, and most surprisingly of all, it's quite lacking in the action department. That said, count us curious enough for part three."

I’d normally write a brief synopsis as to what this film is about, and I’ve sat blankly for 10 minutes just staring at my screen not knowing where to start. Whether this is because the film has a very confusing plot, or just has a plot that’s naturally un-engaging and isn’t really worthy of your attention is hard to determine.
To begin with, the film is far too long, and follows a non-linear narrative that doesn’t really do itself justice. Maybe this is down to the film not trying very hard to ground itself. Overall, it’s very uneven and genuinely feels like you’re watching two separate films at the same time. One being hardcore politics, and the other being an extremely mediocre action film. The former not evening being remotely interesting, and the latter trying too hard to capture the action style of the first 3 (Which it does too an extent with brilliant cinematography), but not really being a worthy contender in terms of breathtaking action.
The storyline is rather hard to make sense of. Sadly enough, within the first half hour, it’s a struggle to understand what’s happening and is rather difficult to pick yourself back up again, and stay on topic in terms of plot. In light of this, you often end up asking yourself questions such as…
- “Why is Edward Norton jogging at 4 in the morning in the rain?”
- “Why are all of these people in foreign countries speaking perfectly good English to each other?”
- “What is this virus stuff, and why don’t I care?”
- “Who are these people?”
Jeremy Renner stars as Aaron Cross, a new character to the Bourne Franchise, who unfortunately lacks any type of charisma, and comes across as a stereotypical action hero, with very little stand out moments. Renners performance is far from terrible, but it’s just not that good. There’s nothing in this film allowing him to even attempt to dominate the screen, but his unfortunate lack of screen presence doesn’t do him or the film any justice.
One of the most interesting aspects of the film, deals with Jason Bournes movements from another point of view. Of course Matt Damon isn’t in this film, but just knowing that this film is set at the same time as Ultimatum, almost provokes some sense of interest. This is sadly lost however, as the film tends to focus on very boring storytelling, and generic action sequences. As it stands now, the film just looks like a very cheap cash in of the Bourne series, which wasn’t really surprising as the thought of a fourth outing seemed very money grabbing anyway. However, credit must be given to Tony Gilroy for creating his own vision for this movie, and not following on from the approach of Paul Greengrass.
Of course, the film isn’t without it’s merits. Rachel Weisz gives a brilliant performance as Marta Shearing, a Doctor who seems to be caught up in an assassination attempt and rather predictably teams up with Aaron Cross, to hunt down the cause. The cinematography tries it’s best to capture the excitement of the original trilogy (Sometimes coming very close indeed), but doesn’t really manage it. James Newton Howard provides an exhilarating soundtrack, which gives a sense of excitement that isn’t present in the visuals.
Overall, a very disappointing film, the plot is ill contrived, and it was a chore to sit through.

Leave your brain at the door and all your post-modern longing for a 3 hour epic, filled with award winners, drama, passion and cinematography to die for... this is the cream of the action hero film squad back with a literal BANG to give a loud, fun action film like we used to enjoy watching on our VHS and DVDs back when cinema was simple!
We get a plot as simple as it is text-book - the villain has stolen weapons grade plutonium to cause global chaos, and only a squad of mercenaries and tough guys (and ladies) can stop them and take down their armies in the process!
Full of cheesy puns that just make you laugh and enjoy the ride, director Simon West never lets you stop for breath, and even when the action cools off there is lots of interesting scenes with the characters that makes you feel for them and actually care about them through the course of the film.
It's easily something I could watch more and more of because it's clear everyone is having fun in their roles and it reminded me of the action films I grew up with when I just took in the carnage, the action and the larger-than-life characters and just....enjoyed myself! It's loud, dumb and good fun, so sue me if in this era of intense, over-long, dramatically award winning films with the usual current crop of exceptional, award-loving actors that we get a few innocent pleasures that creap in.
This is the summer film for all those who want 100 minutes of ACTION! HUMOUR! BLOOD! GUNS! PUNS! NORRIS!
Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Van Damme, Lundgren, Crews and the rest of the team sure do deliver, and I can't WAIT for 'The Expendables 3'!!
And a bonus highlight I didn't expect to actually think was brilliant, but....

This one was much better then the first. I was surprised to see who was under the mask in the first scene for the most part I was entertained by it.
The Chuck Norris scenes were a little corny and there wasn't enough Vam Damme in it IMO.

Glad I'm not the only one alone on feeling Van Damme was barely in it.

I also think there's not enough of JCVD. He actually managed a very good performance playing that Vilain villain (!), so it's too bad we don't see more of it. Besides, the Sly/VD fight is way too short.Glad I'm not the only one alone on feeling Van Damme was barely in it.The Expendables 2 This one was much better then the first. Out of all the films to have been made featuring the main actor twice as twines, I would have to say JCVD's Double Impact is the best.

I'm sure indeed that it will be near impossible to recreate the chemistry they both had for DM, which was an excellent and well written actioneer.I heard they want Wesley Snipes for the 3rd film, to be it will never be as good as Demolition Man.
There's been loads of rumours. One that I love is that they would add Kurt Russel. Now, that would be awesome to see the Sly&Kurt duo again! Plus Kurt will forever be that damn Snake Plisken!

I agree with the lack of Van Damme, he was a superb baddie and should of had more screen-time. That's the only dissapointment for me. Can't wait to own this on Blu Ray when it's out.

The Hunger Games
I never read any of the books, I just heard how good it was and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. It has the girl from 'X-Men: First Class' Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson is in it and even Lenny Kravitz. For a while I didn't see what was so great about it but by the time they get into the game it gets a bit interesting. At times I found it was intense and I was surprised I was liking it, it left me curious about its sequel. ★★★★

For me the films main selling point is Joseph Gordon-Levitt who we just seen in The Dark Knight Rises. Hes a bike messenger being chased in the Big Apple by a dirty cop who wants an envelop he has. I liked the film it was fun and that is all I was expecting along side some cool stunts, which it had. Its like Fast & Furious but with bicycles, meets Top Gun: "I've got the need, the need for speed." ★★.5

All in all, 2.5/5 Leon and Barry and the violence saved this from being a terrible entry. How do I rank the franchise? 1.) Afterlife, 2.) Resident Evil, 3.) Apocalypse, 4.) Retribution, 5.) Extinction. After all these years, I still can't love Extinction like the first three in my ranking.
Hopefully Retribution is the last film, even if it ended on a cliffhanger.

It appears there's still no release date for France. I'm so mad at the distributors.Dredd - A very well done action film that makes up for the terrible Stallone film 'Judge Dredd' Karl Urban owns this role from the beginning. This film is heaven for action film lovers. I highly recommend it. 5/5

Such a shame. It's a terrific film, loads of fun. Most enjoyable time at the movies this year. Most likely seeing it again in a few days with some friends. Hopefully it's released soon. I premiered at a film festival on the 16th, not sure why they haven't released it there yet.

Yes, it is a shame, really. Even more so since it appears the 3D, for once, is well managed and does bring some added value to the movie (in the trailer, the "slo-mo" scenes look amazing). I'm afraid we'll only get a Blu Ray release...Such a shame. It's a terrific film, loads of fun. Most enjoyable time at the movies this year. I saw it in 2D as it was the only showing available at the time. I'm planning on seeing it 3D now after some people told me and reading online about how well the 3D is used. Hopefully It's released soon over there!

Yes. Was planning on checking out DREDD in 2D, but decided going the 3D route would be better due to reading about the 3D actually being incorporated well. Planning on checking the film out tomorrow, and looking forward to it!
I see you're a new member here on CBn, welcome Ernst Stavro Blofield!
You won't be disappointed with 'Dredd'!
