Saw The Avengers Assembled yesterday. I really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo's performance, and I hope that he gets his own movie somewhere down the line. Avengers was full of character devopment which was a very nice surprise. Although, I did feel that Robert Downey Jr stole the show. Maybe that's just because Iron Man was the superhero I was looking forward to seeing the most. I didn't think much of Thor, or Captain America. I didn't really like the former when I saw the stand alone film, the actor annoys me. Jeremy Renner is also rather wasted, and just comes across as a Daniel Craig wannabe. Not just in this film either, I've seen many trailers of other stuff he's in, and he's just trying to act all Daniel Craig esque. But yes, a very fun film. If I were to rate it as a film purely out of entertainment, it would be a solid 5/5 from me. But as a film itself, I rate it 3.5/5, just under 4 stars. :)

Not a brilliant movie by any means, but highly entertaining.

This has just me so excited for this more than before. It's just like something out of the 80's! Some highlights...
  • Schwarzenegger annoucing "I'm back!"
  • Stallone vs Van Damme!
  • Schwarzenegger and Willis in a tiny car!
  • Explosions and jungles...very 1980s!
  • Statham pronouncing you "Man, and knife."!
  • Norris blasting a machine gun, one handed!

Oh this could be very, very good...!!

"IM BACK." LOL.
The trailer looks great. I"m looking forward to seeing Van Dam back in a big budget film, haven't seen him in anything recently.

It's going to be a big summer for Bruce Wills.

I read yesterday that Bruce has arrived in Budapest, I believe, for the first day starting to shoot 'A Good Day To Die Hard'...aka Die Hard 5. Busy man!

Christ, I hope they change that title.

Thanks TCR!

Avengers was surprisingly pretty good. I was content with it, it still doesn't make up for the fact that Marvel ruined Captain America and Iron Man 2. It's worth checking out.

I'm don't care much for the title, "A Good Day To Die Hard" that much either.

I just came across this article that this is Jackie Chan's last action film.

Sad to hear Jackie Chan wants to retire from action roles....although not a suprise really, but always enjoy his films (ignoring the fact the Americans dampen him down too much).

Loved the first 2 Armour Of God films, very classic - so hope this final film of the trilogy, Chinese Zodiac, delivers!

Dear god, not even Liam Neeson could of saved Battleship. Surprisingly enough the film did strong outside the United States.

If anyone's interested in The Great Gatsby and Gangster Squad, I've attached the trailers for them

Gangster Squad looks interesting, Don't really like the use of Rap in the trailer for a period piece, but anything to market it. Great Gatsby is officially in 3D too. Who's bright idea was that?

Seems like we ain't getting GI Joe: Retalliation this year guys...from EMPIRE Online...

If you were awaiting the arrival of Mr Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation crew, we have some news you might want to sit down for: they’re not coming this summer. Actually, the entire film is being shifted to March 2013 so that Paramount can run it through the 3D-O-Matic machine. We can hear the complaints even now…

According to Deadline, one studio exec explained the move thusly: "We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.” Well, at least they were honest about the reason. But it won't stop anyone thinking that there's more to it than that...

The movie had been scheduled to arrive on June 29th across the pond and August 3 here. While the shift means a March 29, 2013 release in the US, we don’t yet know what that means for the UK.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is directed by John M Chu and features Johnson, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, Arnold Vosloo and DJ Cotrona.

That is so pathetic. I don't think I even want to see this film at all now. I'm assuming it's because an early cut of the film sucked so much, that by doing it in 3D people will pay more (especially in foreign markets to see it) and that the extra ticket boosts will somewhat recover a loss. Battleship is a great example. the film made over $200 million in foreign markets. North America, $20 million. 3D wouldn't even save the sinking pile of garbage known as Battleship.

3D is pointless PERIOD. It wouldn't surprise me if Skyfall is delayed until next summer for a 3D conversion. The final 3D film I'm seeing is The Amazing Spider-Man, because I have wanted to see Spider-Man in 3D since the first few set of films came out.

Here's the big question, Why would Paramount even consider doing a sequel to G.I. Joe? The first one was terrible and had horrendous acting and crap Plot, Why? Money talks. Kids will want to go see it. I saw it one day with my Dad just being bored as District 9 was out the next day. I left the theater and tried to completely erase the film from my memory.

Not bad there is a fight scene which reminded me of QOS, worth a watch if you ask me but I wouldn't be rushing to watch it again.

Had a long night of Judd Apatow Commedies: Walk Hard, Superbad, Knocked Up. Man can write/produce/direct some funny stuff. Haven't seen these films in a very long time. Felt nice to watch them after quite some time and have a great laugh again.

Prometheus

Now, before I give my thoughts on this film. I must first say that I wasn't expecting anything remotely brilliant. I never really was taken by the trailers, and ever since most people said the film was a massive dissapointment, I didn't really want to see it that much. However, tonight I decided to watch it, and I have to say that I was very impressed. I don't get all the hate for it at all. It wasn't remotely bad. Infact, I'd go as far to say that it's one of the most accomplished films Ridley Scott has made. Bar Alien of course. There's just something about this film in full form that totaly hooked me straight away. I think it's to do with the whole world Scott has built it around. It tends to feel claustrophobic and open at the same time. For those of you who haven't seen it yet, I won't spoil it for you, but I LOVE *that scene* at the end. It just makes everything come full circle.

Noomi Rapace is a fantastic lead. I loved her in Dragon Tattoo, and feel she is a very accomplished actress. The surgery scene stands out as one of the main highlights of the film for me. So well acted and directed. Michael Fassbender tended to steal every scene he was in. Loving this guy more and more. He looks a lot like Ian Flemings James Bond as well. Wouldn't mind him taking over once Craig leaves.

But anyway yes, Prometheus is a tense, exciting and beautiful accomplishment. Very full of praise for this. I should try seeing films with low expectations more often. The only things I didn't like were, The Engineer, a weak and forgettable performance, and almost too alien for my liking, and Guy Pearce who looked awful in prosthetics.

Debating whether to give this 4 stars or 5. I think I'll settle for....

4.5/5.

HAHA No not really but he did kill a lot of people in 'TAKEN' who would go out for revenge. I wonder if 'TAKEN 2' makes enough money, will they go for the trilogy. It seems like the trends these days. It could be about the wealthy man's family from the boat in the first film.

Well, 'Taken' could be the new trilogy that 'The Transporter' was, they had a good run of three, but the third was rubbish.

I hope 'Taken 2' delivers, and if it's anything like the first then I know it will. Neeson is just electric to watch in that role and if it ain't broke, don't fix it, just give us more mindless, gritty thrills in the super-hero comic book season at the cinema as a nice alternative.

Can't wait for this one to come out!

I'm pretty much not bothering with anything to do with Spider-Man, as the first 3 weren't as brilliant as people originally thought now if you watch them again, 10 years after the 'hype'. I love the fact critics now are panning the Sam Raimi films in light of this 'new, darker adaptation', but it's too soon for yet another re-telling of this story in my mind. Sure, chuck in a few different villains as you do, but this is one web-head I'm not going to bother with this year, or ever.

I just enjoyed The Amazing Spider Man preview cause I know I wont go to see the film. You would have thought the people who made Spider-Man 2 & 3 would have learned from the 90's Batman film series and not have simply kept adding a villain every film.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

An oddly charming film. I didn't really think that this would be anything brilliant, I was just expecting it to be a feel good comedy, but it actually turns out to be a lot more than that. It's a comedy drama with an emotional core, which was very very surprising. It's beautifully written, beautifully performed, and genuinley funny in places. The trailers did not do this justice in the least, and I was very happy when the film exceeded all of my expectations.

The Grey (2012)

One of the best things about this film, is the complete and utter feeling of isolation. It's so well done. Now, I'm not going to lie, I had rather low expectations with this. I wasn't expecting such an enaging and genuinley moving piece of cinema. I just thought it would've been Liam Neeson breaking the necks of a pack of wolves for 2 hours. It's suprisingly so much more than that. It's littered with brilliant performances, especially from Liam Neeson. The storyline is very engaging, and some parts of the film are actually, very unnerving. (The wolves' eyes in the dark for one) A perfect balance between drama and action, and definately one of the best films of the year so far.

4/5

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

I have to admit after seeing the trailers and publicity for this movie, I wasn't exactly hyped for it. Although, once the reviews came in I actually thought to myself "Actualy, this could be quite good. Enjoyable anyway." I was half right. It was very enjoyable, but the main problem with this film is, it just feels completely and utterly redundant.

You see, i'm in the minority who actually does rather like the first 3. Well, I say 'first 3'. I thought the third was atrociously bad, but I can watch the first two and still be rather entertained. When it was confirmed that the franchise would be rebooted though, I immediately thought "This is far too early for a reboot, it's too soon, it just feels like they're trying to cash in on the darker rebooted superhero movies." and that's pretty much exactly what they've done. The entire plot just feels like a rehash from 10 years ago, just told differently. If this was the first Spider-Man film in 15 years or something, you know, just enough to time to let the last trilogy settle, then I wouldn't really have a problem with it. But it just feels really uneccesary. Then there's the whole thing about this movie being 'The Untold Story', which after the credits roll, still remains untold. There's virtually nothing learnt about the death of Parkers parents. It's just used as a way to bring Lizard into it.

If they just made this 'Spider-Man 4' and didn't bother with the whole reboot thing, it would've had more time to expand on the death of his parents, and actually bring some form of mystery into it, then it would've probably been a very good film. It's like they tried to do a 'Batman Begins' and lost their nerve 20 minutes in and turned it into another Spiderman film and not something new and interesting.

Oh, and by the way, the 3D is awful. I really wanted a 2D showing but 3D was the only one available. I'm not exaggurating when I say this, but I sat with the glasses off for most of the film and it made no difference. I'm not a fan of 3D anyway, but it does give a sense of... joy when something flies out the screen at you, as bad and pointless as it is. With this it just felt that I was sitting watching a 2D film with glasses on.

The thing is though, I did enjoy it. It was a good waste of a few hours, but there's nothing really original in it. Although the cast was great. I honestly did find Andrew Garfield marvelous. He's definately so much better in the role than Toby Maguire, and really did bring some sense of danger and menace to it. The thing with Garfied is, is that he has this great screen presence and can carry a movie totally on his own. He's brought so much believability and realism to it, that you can't help but be taken in by his performance. Although, I enjoyed the scenes with Peter more than I did with Spider-Man. Even though I found this movie really redundant, I did feel that Garfield was definately the strongest aspect of it, and despite my feelings on this movie, part of me really is looking forward to the next one, mainly because of Garfields performance and how uplifting the ending is.

Overall a good waste of a few hours. Very nice performances and a good cast, but at the end of the day, just a pointless rehash.

3/5

Shame

I actually don’t know where to start. I totally hated it, which is why I think I found it so brilliantly made. Watching it made me feel totally trapped, totally claustrophobic and irritated, but I think that’s what it was trying to do. It’s rightfully so the most un-erotic sexually crafted movie in existence. Shame is without a doubt one of the most intense films I’ve ever seen. Everything in it just made me feel totally claustrophobic, right down to the repetitive music notes, which symbolises Brendans addiction. It suggests, quite brilliantly, that Brendan is stuck in this repetitive cycle of sex addiction, and I completely love how it just doesn’t get any better. It’s pretty much 140 minutes of the same old thing, in a really good way, because even though he’s suffering from sex addiction, you can subtly see the entire thing get progressively worse. It’s a masterstroke in film making, without a doubt. Michael Fassbenders performance was beyond amazing, and his facial expressions made it feel like he’s in some kind of total unemotional void, and you just can’t whether or not he’s enjoying the pleasure of sex or totally repulsed by it.

Carey Mulligan gave a brilliant performance, and I found myself getting constantly irritated by her. I don’t know whether anyone else found this, but at first I thought that the relationship between Brendan and Sissy came across as borderline incest. The only reason I thought this, was purely because of how close both characters were, and there was a sense of sexual tension between both parties, but towards the end of the film, I realised that Sissy is really just very needy, and maybe a little bit innocent. Saying that though, I thought Sissy was, without a doubt, the most annoying character in the entire film, and one of the main reasons why Brendan and I, (the viewer) felt so trapped. There’s a lovely line toward the end of the film, where Brendan tells her that he’s feels like she’s totally trapped him in a corner and he can’t see any way of getting out, which is a completely sums up my thoughts on the movie.

I can’t really think of anything wrong with it, because I think it totally set out what it wanted to achieve, and that’s the best kind of film making. I think it wanted you to make you feel as if you were Brendan, and feel the emotional termoil he’s going through, and make you feel really trapped. It’s as if it was forcing you to take this journey with a character you’re not sure whether you like or not. It was a relief when it was over, not in a bad way, just that I honestly felt that I couldn’t take anymore of it. I think it went as far as it could take you without making you want to turn off in disgust. I think if it went on any longer, and became more and more extreme then I think it would be too much.

The ending I did have a small problem with, purely because,
Spoiler

Overall though, a brilliant film, dirty but beautiful cinematography and one of the best performances by Michael Fassbender I can recall.

Despite my previous post of me saying I was scrapping all plans to see Savages and The Amazing Spider-Man, I went and saw the latter.

Savages - A great film overall! Probably the best thing Oliver Stone has done since Any Given Sunday and that was 13 years ago. I really enjoyed this film from start to finish and I loved Benicio Del Toro's performance in the film. I wouldn't call this a modern day version of Natural Born Killers, but it is violent and gritty, just without the trippy LSD effects and VHS and 8mm film used. I don't know why a lot of people are griping about the ending, I liked it.

Next film will be The Dark Knight Rises. The Amazing Spider-Man will eventually come as it's destined, but not for a while.
