Hate to be negative, but I'm not liking the bearded Bond. It just doesn't look right to me.

Read the script yet? It probably makes sense on the page, don´t worry. I, for one, think it looks badass.

We’ve seen the pool image and now this – and I firmly believe Mendes and company are on track to deliver one of the purest interpretations of Bond we’ve seen. The vibes are dead on for me.

I sure hope you´re right, the expectations are way up high for this one. This pictures, plus the pool one, plus the Komodo news, plus the DB5 being back, as well as the ppk, sure get my hopes high for some greatness to come.

Any reason to think the Shanghai bits are not the pre-title sequence? Or at the beginning of the film, following some happenings in the PTS that mean Bond shows up in the scruff after the main titles?

One quality I really like with the pic is that it's quite spyish. More so than the more action oriented QoS pics.

Scene v64BA maybe. But we don´t even know if that´s Shangai for sure, the clapperboard I mean. Plus, Bond has a beard in Shangai and in London, who knows what comes first? Maybe Turkey will be the final mission, without the beard?

Really? To me it looks...timeless.

It's just not very high tech, is it? Looks like an old gun.

That´s why I love it. Remember Bond´s "relationship" with the beretta? Same thing. Besides, it´s still a very handy and operational gun. Plus, many modern things nowadays don´t look modern at all compared to, say, the 30s or the 60s.

Scene 64 will be well away from the PTS and the beginning.

It is entirely possible that the PTS involves Bond in Shanghai doing survailance work or something, hence the beard. Which I think we've established is pretty early on. He could find himself back in Shanghai later on in the film, after certain plot developments.

The beard he's sporting there looks a bit darker and fuller compared to the one he's got in London. Unless it's just the lighting.

Is it just me or does Craig look even more manly with the beard?

I think we do - we are told that this first still of Craig is in Shanghai. You can see the same neon sign that you can see in the clapperboard Scene 64 photo reflected in the glass on the right hand side of this first still. Same place.

And the DB5 is an old car. But that's the power of iconography. I'd argue the PPK is synonymous with Bond as much as the gun barrel, or vodka martini.

About Craig looking even more manly with the beard, yeah, the guy looks like a bloody toddler with a close shave :) Kidding, but I do think you´re right.
About the iconography, essencial in my opinion.
About the scene being in Shangai, you´re absolutely correct Shrublands.

I don't care if he has a purple mohawk haircut and a nose ring- as long as he shows up and gets the job done (which, in his case, is catching the bad guys)

The stubble looks good.

PPK is just win, nuff said. And people complaining about the beard, how boring wouldn't it be if Bond always looked the same. The beard, which he obviously won't sport the entire movie is a fresh touch. Sean had a slighter stubble in Goldfinger and Brosnan did hobo beard in Die Another Day, both great touches.

Well, mohawk might be a dealbreaker even for the more open-minded fan.

Isn't the PTS taking place in Istanbul?

Very nice! I love how it's an ACTUAL STILL from the movie. It' s an awesome classical pose. Awesome! Anyone here reminded of Blade Runner, though?

Can't find the image of Deckard hunting Zhora but this is close enough.

I knew the photo reminded me of something; great find, indeed a bit BLADE RUNNER-ish.

Craig´s short hair and the lighting sure look Decardish to me. Good thing in my book. I wonder if the tunes will set up that scene as well as the lighting does?

Definitely a good thing, I like interesting lighting a la Blade Runner, which I think is one of the best cinematographed movies of all time. It's something we've never had in a Bond movie before.

Too much talk about the beard, but...

What happened with his right eye? Is not his eyebrow swollen? A previous bad fight?

Bond is about iconography, and the PPK is a timeless weapon associated with the character. A bullet kills, that's all he needs. Have warmed up considerably to the image. I remember what it was like to see Craig bloodied and bruised in the first official Casino Royale screen shot, and I was iffy about that one back then. In context, it works. Same deal here. This is definitely Bond. We'll hopefully get the shaving and redressing scene at some point. I echo the other thoughts around here suggesting Bond is whisked away out of a deep cover op for this assignment without the ability to change properly. He's given a change of clothes and sent on his way. Loving all of this so far. This team is going to deliver something incredible.

Also...interesting coat he's got on there.

I agree with most of you all. The beard shows Bond as a more hard edge Bond.

Something tells me this is a very edgy film. Edgier than Casino Royale.

I agree with the Blade Runner comparison, and I'm going to be watching it in my film class soon.

LOVE IT!!! I'm all for that idea. And then Craig pulls a Brosnan and shaves the beard while looking at himself in the mirror...and pulls the DB5 out of the garage and turns on some Shirely Bassey....

Awesome pic..and I remember that Craig was saying that they were going to "shake up" Bond's image a bit in this film. The stubble does give him a very edgy look and it works GREAT in this pic. Now obviously if there are going to be any scenes in Skyfall where 007 gets dressed up in the tux and heads to a casino or bar for a few martinis, the beard will have to go..

I really want a vodka martini shaken not stirred in this movie with a clean shaven tuxed-up Bond. Craig deserves that Bond-moment.

Before I saw ANY pics of Dan with the beard, I was expecting a Pierce Brosnan homeless man beard. The beard is effective for craig!
