Beard isn't off putting once you see it in action, whatsoever. Surprised we're seeing it in Shanghai - he didn't seem to have it in the poolside pic, so perhaps that scene isn't set in Shanghai as we'd initially thought?

I don't know, I still think I see a bit of facial hair in that pool photo. There looks like there's something there, anyway.

It's just not very high tech, is it? Looks like an old gun.

And the DB5 is an old car. But that's the power of iconography. I'd argue the PPK is synonymous with Bond as much as the gun barrel, or vodka martini.

To an extent, yeah; but I didn't miss it as much as I thought I would when it wasn't there. It's just a gun, ultimately.

To be brutal, I don't think the DB5 really suits Bond, either. As Connery says, it's a ladies' car.

If you could point out facial in the pool photo that'd be great since I couldn't see any at all.

Are you sure there's a sign of facial hair ?

I really can't, and it could just be a trick of the light or the granniness of the image but if you look at his ear and then right, you'll see his skin looks a bit darker than it does higher on his cheek. Or at least to me it does. No way of telling, really.

I´ll be a lady then. I´ll be the first to leave the boat if it sinks and I´ll drive the coolest car on earth. All perks. Thing is, I would probably be a lesbian ;)
Nah, I´m a ladies man, so I like ladies cars. If that makes any sense.

Shades of CR. Can´t believe it´s been 6 years since this. Still, old habits die hard, and our spy still likes his dark coats ;)

Ahhh. I se what you mean. I see some dark shades, but Like you stated as well, it could just be the light or granniness.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not ruling out the possibilty that he took a swim with that beard on his face haha.

Awesome photo! I hope we get plenty of proper, well-written, suspenseful espionage this time around - it certainly looks that way. Proper, good old investigation, clandestine meetings and spying :)

i get the impression the background is a throw back to the dr.no title sequence, but it is probably just me reading to much into it.

Six years, indeed. Back then, I thought: in six years we will have three more Bonds with Craig!

Am I failing to find it or did Empire ignore the first official photo news? Something not good with them and Bond publicity...

This line of discussion reminds me of the debates when Timothy Dalton took over the role from Roger Moore. Those early photographs and first trailer of TLD showed a rugged, wind swept Bond in scenes from Gibraltar and Afghanistan. To that generation, Bond (Roger Moore) had perfect hair and immacuately pressed tuxedos in just about every scene. These forums didn't exist at the time, but the water cooler discussions at work had similar passion and diversified viewpoints. I enjoy the healthy debate these early photographs have opened up. I hope we're not stuck with this one official photograph for months, and that others surface that give hints to his style in other parts of the film.

why the finger on the trigger???

Probably because Bond is anticipating the need to use his weapon in the very immediate future. Technically, it's the wrong way to hold the weapon - law enforcement officers draw their weapon, but keep their finger off the trigger until they need to fire in order to prevent an accidental discharge. But Bond isn't exactly in law enforcement.

Plus he's got gloves on; might be trouble forcing his gloved finger into the trigger guard quickly! :)

That was exactly my first thought when I saw the picture Mark. That walter has a very small trigger guard.

Not a good reason. Coming from real operational experience I can say that no professional would ever do this. Your finger is only even on the trigger when you are about to take a shot. The Craig movies have been good about this so far so I was surprised to see it. Brosnan would always have his finger on the trigger.

SF are trained to use weapons with and without gloves. It's a movie I know but in real life nobody would do this even with the Walther's trigger guard.

Who says he is not about to shoot someone?

Also, if he hadn´t the "finger on the trigger" people would cry out: Oooh, like the life vest on the speedboat, Craig is much too timid using a gun!

By the way, the "finger on the trigger"-pose could not be more Ian Fleming. C´mon, people, which novel?

Original title for The Living Daylights? Brilliant lyrics on a song by the "Boss"? ;)

If you are going to shoot someone you do not have your finger on the trigger in the "High Port" position. Period.
As you bring down your weapon you than move your finger to the trigger, pick up your sights, and fire (by squeezing the trigger) if the threat is still presentable.

Many posters and book covers probably show Bond with his finger on the trigger and any 80's action movie will too. In today's movies I would hope the military advisors would get it right.

Yeah, but not only that, the gun is cocked isn´t it? I guess that picture, while being a "still", can be of Bond cocking the gun and taking aim...so the "high port" position could maybe not be a position at all but part of an arm movement. I know, I know, grasping at straws here.

Close but no Morland cigarette.

Think again! "The Finger on the Trigger"... Ian Fleming...
