Filming is on a break. Daniel has press committments on Dragon Tattoo, while Mendes is in Quatar with Kevin Spacey doing threatre. I think its only a 2 week break, then filming is back on after the new year celebrations. I don't think we are getting a longer shoot simply beacause filming moved up 2 months to November. Manhy interviews with cast and crew have said that filming will wrap in April/May. I think Mendes was just keen for some more time in the editing room, remember one of the issues on a Bond movie is the extremebly long shoot, followed by the quick editing process. Usually its like only 6-8 weeks to cut the films, which is staggeringly short time to make a movie. I think Mendes just wants the extra month to finese his final product in the editting booth.

A good idea too, I hope he manages to get the extra time comfortably.

This is not really the way they are put together, they don’t stop filming in June with thousands and thousands of feet of unedited footage, then turn their minds to putting it all together in a few weeks. (Or in this case hours and hours of ARRI RAW).

Forster went on and on about having something like only 4 or 5 weeks to edit QoS. But, that’s not strictly true. (Personally, I think he was just readying his excuses because he could already see what a utter hash the edit was making off it all) Anyway, ordinarily, on big films, they are well into an assembly edit whilst they are still being shot. ie I would expect the edit of Skyfall to already be underway.

In the old days, you got bits of black leader/spacer and captions to say things like “effects shot” or whatever “missing” to get the timing right as all the material was sill being made.
Now, on a film of this scale, sophisticated digital ‘pre-viz’ can be spliced in and a good idea of the finished sequences can be seen as they go along.

Then they will turn their attention to a fine-cut once the filming is complete. This is a bit of a simplification of the process, but it gives something of an idea as to what actually goes on.

Maybe it would just be a nice, low-key affair of a PTS with elements of "007 in New York"; ie, Bond is trying to warn a British agent that he or she is being used by Chinese intelligence. Kind of like the CR PTS, which worked because it went for suspense rather than straight action. And also the juxtaposition of the violence of Bond's first kill and his calm demeanour for the second.

But I'm pretty sure the Turkish arts and culture minister has said that the first fifteen minutes of the film will be set in Istanbul.

Skyfall's shooting schedule is about 6 weeks longer than CR and QOS; this seems to be because Mendes is directing as much as possible rather
than handing over sequences to 2nd Unit. But they still have a 2nd Unit, but they really don't get going until the new year.

Yes, read that. Thx Col. BTW - do you or anybody expect this to be a good idea? He is not really a director, with a lot of action experience..

I personally think Mendes is a great choice because he is such a creative director. Action scenes are developed with major input from very experienced
Stunt/Action coordinators, storyboard artists, stunt performers and drivers etc. The skill of the director is to bring that extra creativity and imagination
to the action scenes, and Mendes does not lack imagination or technical skill. For example, I love the slow motion shoot-out set-piece in Road to Perdition,
it's a terrific combination of suspense, imaginative staging and skillful camera-work and set-ups.

Someone else here asked if we really do know the schedule is longer because Mendes is shooting so much of the action. I can confirm, knowing various crew members,
that that is indeed the case. Mendes is taking charge of as much as he can.

Nah, she´s got all edges perfectly rounded, not a sharp surfice at sight ;) Seriously now, Craig looks very Bondian there, and in the Colbert report as well. Very reminiscent of CR, only with the Tom Ford suits.

Agreed, I like the rather sharp narrow tie too. Very now, yet very classic – very Tom Ford.

I´ve always said that, in many many ways, the 60s were more modern than the dreary 90s and the last decade. I like the narrow ties and the cut of the suits. Like you said, very retro, very now.

I very much liked the rather 60s mod ‘ticket pocket’ on the Tom Ford suit at the press conference. Something I’m hoping to see on the suits in the film.

Yes, me too. Although in QOS they already had the ticket pockets on the suits, I think. Cool look.

Got the new issue of Empire magazine today.

They've got an incredibly short preview which gives absolutely nothing away (not surprising after THAT press conference). However, the caption to the photo, which is new/not-been-seen-by-us-CBN'ers, says: "Sam Mendes rehearses a scene where M intercepts some covert terrorist comms"

Also a quote from MGW confirming they've "cut loose from the Vesper/Quantum arc of the last two films". Just in case any of you thought Quantum might pop up in some shape or form.

Actually, the power of a meme to take hold in the public consciousness might make for an interesting story idea. I'm thinking one part Occupy Wall Street and/or Anonymous, one part violent domestic terrorist group, and all of it fuelled by a cryptic meme. It would be very difficult to do, though.

By the way, the caption should be "[censored] James Bond, look at this video on Failblog"

Why not? She does play a key part in the film, given that the plot revolves around her past.

And more importantly, this is a new photo. All the shots of Craig have been picked up and are readily available across the internet. This is something new.

Interesting. Ascot appears to be in the film both as Royal Ascot and as Shanghai airport. Unless this is jsut the cameras being set up before the set is re-decorated.
