This is becoming tedious. How much footage of M and Tanner riding around in cars can they possibly need?

My guess, judging by the amount of footage they've shot of those two in the vehicle, is that this is the first major set piece following the PTS. It must be an action sequence of some sort.

Judging by the clapperboards, the different weather and some of it being at night, I’d have to say that it’s scattered throughout the movie.

They seem to be driving at a fairly relaxed pace for most of it, it's conversation stuff with getting from A to B.

Well obviously the night shoot isn't part of the stuff shot during the day. Just speculating on the day stuff.

I'm of the same opinion. I think we will see those driving scenes in the beginning of the film after the opening credits, cross edited with scenes of the terrorists. I think there is a general alert in which the secret services and police are aware that there will be an attack on London, but they don't know what the target is nor they are able to stop it.

I’m anticipating 7 to 10 separate scenes with Dench in a car.
5 or 6 in the Jag and at least 2 in the DB5, probably more.

Driving onto the bridge before the explosion - Jag (scenes 27 to 30 continuous)
Driving to Funeral. – Jag (scene 35)
Driving to underground bunker. – Jag (scene 39)
Driving to a square in London at night in the rain. – Jag (scene ??)
Driving off at speed. – Jag (scene 131)
Driving in London at night- DB5 (scene 134)
Driving in Scotland – DB5 (scene 137)

I don't think they'll show M being chauffered in the Jaguar after the explosion near Vauxhall Bridge. The explosion is expected to be scene 30 and the 8 coffins in the chapel should be scene 35. Most likely there will be some scenes showing the aftermath of the explosion , maybe some dialogue , and then cut direct to the funeral procession - you know, the Wootton Bassett, the mourners ,the hearses...

I was referring to the scene 35. In my opinion that won't be a driving scene.

My main point was that Matt-13 said that he expected all the driving stuff to be for “the first major set piece following the PTS”.
I was trying to show why I think that is not the case. Ie this list...

Driving onto the bridge before the explosion - Jag (scenes 27 to 30 continuous)
Driving to Funeral. – Jag (scene 35)
Driving to underground bunker. – Jag (scene 39)
Driving to a square in London at night in the rain. – Jag (scene ??)
Driving off at speed. – Jag (scene 131)
Driving in London at night- DB5 (scene 134)
Driving in Scotland – DB5 (scene 137)

Even if you discount the funeral, that’s still scattered different scenes throughout the film.

We could possibly merge the funeral and underground bunker if M goes directly from one to the other. And also the driving off at speed, London by night and Scotland scenes, if the theory of M fleeing the city proves true. They could simply be intercut with other scenes - like, for example, showing what the villains are doing between scenes 134 and 137 since the trip from London to Scotland is a long one.

i hope this isn't a dumb question. is the new and modern aston martin featured in the film at all? has it been completely replaced by the jag?

I think Mendes is just being particularly meticulous with every scene. I'm pretty sure the weekend of filming at Millbank and Vauxhall Bridge will be little more than a minute in the final movie. All these driving sequences will probably end up being little more than bridges between meatier, more involved scenes.

i like that idea. but do you think there will be a car chase scene?

My instinct is that there won't be an actual chase sequence in London. There was talk of a car chase in Shanghai though, although we've only heard very brief detail about that; that might end up being just driving sequences too.

I'd rather we had a classic car chase in the DB5, personally. Would be lovely.

Not a dumb question at all: I don't think it's been replaced by the Jag in as far as that's not Bond's car- whether we'll see it all is hard to say. My hunch is that we won't and Bond's only car will be the DB5, but you never know.

that would be great, we haven't seen a car chase with the DB5 since GE and that doesn't really count I don't think. before that i don't think its been done since GF

I'd be surprised if the DB5 got a full-on chase scene. They've done that once, and it only gets harder to find stunt DB5s. But then I know it's Bond and they can do anything, of course!

Chris Corbould has said there's a great car chase.

I think the latest possibility we've heard about that involved VWs in Turkey.

Agree. I imagine the DB5 makes a speedy getaway from London rather than a full blown car chase; but it can still be an exciting scene.

Seeing the DB5 driven properly by Craig's Bond (unlike around in a circle!) in and around London will be a very definitive 'Bond' moment I hope we see!

Land Rover Defender to star in 2012's new James Bond film Skyfall

Land Rover’s Defender will be one of the star vehicles of the new James Bond film Skyfall, due in cinemas this winter. The venerable 4x4 will be driven in a chase sequence by Naomi Harris’s character, Eve. And the assignment is shaping up to be one of the toughest in the Defender’s 64-year history, says Skyfall co-producer Andrew Noakes.
‘We are really going to test that car,’ says Noakes, ‘do things to it it’s not normally designed for. Some of the stuff is so hairy and dangerous, we have to use a stuntman in a pod on the roof to do the driving. We’ve had to crank up the suspension, and the Defender is going to work very, very hard.’
It’s not the first time the Defender has appeared in a Bond chase: the 4x4 ended up plummeting from the rock of Gibraltar in the 1987 film The Living Daylights.
Jaguar-Land Rover is providing some 70 vehicles to the film: some are production support cars, others like the XJ and Evoque are set to figure on the screen. James Bond himself is set to drive an Aston Martin once more, but whispers suggest it might be a classic instead of a current model. DB5 anyone, with a nod back to 1964 and Goldfinger, as the franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary?
Noakes says the production company, EON, is delighted with the support of Jaguar-Land Rover. ‘The films may be made with American money and producers, but James Bond is British and we try to make associations with British companies. Land Rover is one of the oldest and most well-known. We’ve had offers from other companies but we’d prefer not to take James Bond out of a British environment.’ It sounds like the BMWs of the Pierce Brosnan era won’t be making a comeback anytime soon.

On my way to audition for the new Bond film- Skyfall- scene in film will be shared with Javier Bardem

Great news folks! Recall for the part in the new Bond film on Monday. Fingers crossed.

The point is: why do they need such a young actor ? Which role is he supposed to play?

Hmm, supposedly he's 20 years old - just appears to look very young - so maybe his age/look isn't actually that important. Tough to say. However, if he keeps blabbing about his audition process on Twitter, the producers probably won't be too happy!

I'm hoping that the BMW in the scene on the bridge outside MI6 will have a cameo appearance and make it into the finale cut.

That's cool; should have seen that coming, really. It's an exciting vehicle: the new looks are quite bold.

Also, I notice that today JLR have released pics of the convertible Evoque; what's the chance of one of them being in Skyfall?

Given that we've seen other Land Rovers - the Evoque, I think - being shot in and around London, I'm guessing the Defender will be used for an off-road sequence of some kind.

Spoiler
