Anyone else hoping beyond hope that the tribbles return?

Pick up issues 10 & 11 of the new series, the Tribbles did indeed return (and got Scotty in a lot of hot water with Starfleet). IDW will have them online if you cant find it in a comic book store.

Did everyone see that trailer? It definitely looks cool, and I am not a fan of star trek

Yes it looks cool, and I cant wait for the full trailer. Your post actually reminds me of the success of the new movie, if someone who isnt a fan sees this and enjoys it, then mission accomplished. One more person goes to see Star Trek and can one day become a fan. Glad you liked it, Iceskater101!

Now onto the 2 new characters, and a uniform change. It seems Chekov will be a redshirt in the new film, not sure if he is security chief or moved to engineering but a write up of the new trailer said he is in a red shirt. I will wait and see if this is true or not.

Benedict Cumberbatch's character is NOT Khan. I think it could be Gary Mitchell, but it is likely to be Garth of Izar IMO.

Alice Eve in the trailer reminded me of Dr. Elizabeth Dehner from the 2nd Star Trek Pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before" but I think she's Carol Marcus, and since this is close to the time David Marcus is born (takes place around 2260-2261) I think I'm safe betting on that. But Roberto Orci did say both Cumberbatch and Eve's characters were cannon Star Trek characters, so there is a possibility they could be different than my predictions.

Kinda wondering if Peter Weller is playing a role similar to his Enterprise role or playing an Admiral. Can't wait to see the Hobbit! If you see it in IMAX (At least in the US, not sure about Europe) you'll see the 1st 9 minutes of the new film, if you see it in regular theaters you'll see the full trailer

I will have to pick those up. The Trouble with Tribbles is my all-time favorite Star Trek ep.

I need to correct an earlier post, Issues 11 & 12 of the Star Trek monthly retell The Trouble With Tribbles.

While Cumberbatch's character is still a mystery, Alice Eve's character is not. According to a source on trekweb, we will see the return of Carol Marcus. It makes sense IMO, you did see Kirk give her the flirty look, and since he struck out with Uhura he might get Carol. I pointed out that this film takes place around the time David was born in the Prime universe.

Just because they keep saying he isn't playing Khan doesn't mean he's not playing Khan. Remember that Christopher Nolan kept saying Marion Cotillard was NOT playing Talia al Ghul and Sam Mendes/Naomie Harris kept saying she was NOT playing Miss Moneypenny....so yea, think about it ;).

A fantastic trailer without being loud, proud and over-the-top. Really can't wait for this, it's won me over and looks far better than the first.

Cumberbatch looks like opera singer Russel Watson in that trailer though...and still sounds exceptionally evil!

Can't wait.

This looks promising for Trekkies - out in April 2013!

I wonder if this will bridge the first film and 'Into Darkness' maybe, or simply be a stand-alone adventure?

I think I remember hearing that it is supposed to take place between the 2009 film and Into Darkness.

Has anyone see 'Star Trek The Motion Picture' or anyone of the other Star Trek films? I'm just wondering if anyone here would recommend them.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is okay, but after that the even numbers films are good. However, the odd ones get worse and worse each time until you get to Star Trek: Nemesis. This bucks the trend by being the worse film of all at number 10.

I would recommend the "Trilogy" of II/III/IV, and First Contact highly. IMO The Motion Picture, The Undiscovered Country and Generations are all also very entertaining. The Final Frontier and Nemesis have some good moments and some interesting ideas, and don't fully deserve their reputation, but are clunky and holistically unsatisfying. Insurrection is awful

I saw The Motion Picture a few months ago. It kept me entertained for two hours but it does feel a little bit like an extended TV episode these days. Worth watching once though.

I think Cumberbatch is going to be a very memorable villain. Much like Silva or The Joker (easily the best part of the vastly overrated The Dark Knight).

Just came across this;

JJ Abrams turned down 'Star Wars' over 'Star Trek' loyalty

Why? I like AbramsĀ“ work - but he is not the only one who can do a new "Star Wars" movie.

In fact, with him being tied to "Star Trek" it would have been weird if he had jumped ship. Or if he were doing both.

No question about it: whoever will tackle "Star Wars" will have to be very courageous because the fanboys will already have written their reviews before a single shot has been completed.

They probably need a total fanboy-hero to get a little breathing room.
