Don´t worry. EON would say no, too.

Spy film, British lead actor - you can time a watch to how little time it takes for tabloid journalists or breakfast show "reporters" to ask about playing Bond.

Whenever any human actor says they'd enjoy playing Bond, it becomes a news item. God knows why, but it happens so reliably that I'm surprised washed-up actors don't routinely proclaim their willingness to play James Bond. It would be a cheap and quick way to get mentioned on Yahoo News.

Horrible idea.
It may be just for one last time, but I'll probably cheer very loudly if/when Craig is confirmed to return.

Dan Stevens is starring in Gareth Edwards new film. Edwards directed the amazing Raid action flicks.
http://www.slashfilm...and-first-look/
Apparently Edwards has said this is a dark thriller and not a 'kung Fu' film. But from the synopsis it sounds like there will likely be physical confrontation and no one right now does physical confrontation better than Edwards (not even close).
Since The Guest Stevens has been doing a lot of drama (even the excellent series Legion is a cerebral, rather than physical affair). So as The Guest receeds into the past, this may be just what he needs to re-tick that last box on his Bond 7 application: 'Can really kick ass'.
Note: I've always been pretty certain that Craig would do 25, so i'm talking about 26 onwards here.

I'm mostly familiar with his work on legion and downton Abbey (very different roles) so he certainly has range. He could certainly take Bond in a different direction for Bond 26 whilst still being, for want of a better term, "Bondian"

Dan Stevens would be a fine choice. No complaints from me.

Watch The Guest if you haven't already. IMO it's the best Bond audition i've ever seen. Cold, deadly, ruthless while charming when necessary. He nailed the psychopath profile.
What makes Bond so interesting is that he embodies the dark arts of the psycho in his work, yet there's far more below the surface - sometimes vulnerable, sometimes gentle and humorous. Fleming wrote the archetypal antihero that every other action movie apes.
To do it justice it needs an actor with range, like Craig, to capture Fleming's Bond; the contradiction between wanting to save innocents, while enjoying killing the villains. If you asked Fleming's Bond (and Craig's or Connery's Bond) which of those was the reason he enjoyed his job, in all honesty he'd lean towards the latter.
In Downton, Legion and many others Stevens has shown vulnerability, genuine charm, depth and comic timing (without resorting to braking the 4th wall). If he can add all of that together with the dark qualities he absolutely nailed in The Guest it's a great recipe for Fleming's Bond. Let's see how he does in Gareth Edwards next movie.

Just discovered Dan Stevens read the audio book for Casino Royale - that might be as good an indicator as any for how he would approach the role.

At this point in time i'd call him The frontrunner. But now that Craig is (thankfully) looking like he'll do 25, who knows what actors will emerge thereafter?

Stevens has never been a seriously rumoured contender, has he?
That might make him a real possibility... or just not considered.

Dan Stevens is a fine actor and has a good voice, but he lacks an essential quality for playing Bond: a credible physical threat. He's slight and wispy, with a boyish face. His complexion is pasty and gives him an indoorsy look. He's naturally jowly and round-cheeked, and he's compensated for this by losing too much weight and becoming gaunt. There's nothing rough and dangerous about him.

Have you seen The Guest? Oozing physical threat. He wasn't on my Bond radar whatsoever, until i saw this movie.

I agree. He has good looks, but he lacks a kind of toughness. The best Bond actors (Connery, Dalton, Craig) have something menacing.

I think you nailed it with this post. Here are some pictures of him shaven, in a tux, and taken while he's not deathly thin:
Based on pictures and having seen him in The Guest, he would not be one of my top choices for Bond, though he probably wouldn't be at the very bottom of all these names either.

Granted, they are old and Stevens looks quite different when bearded and with darkened hair. However, I'm not sold on him for Bond. But that might change with a few years more showing up on his face, who knows? Dalton used to look nothing like Bond when he was younger.

Similarly Brosnan looked very un-Bond like in '81 when Cubby would've first met him.
