It's quite possible that he very well knows he could give Indy a better send-off.

I hope that's one of his main reasons for considering Indy 5.

Being a huge admirer of the guy and apparently the sole fan of the Star Wars prequels on this board, I want Lucas to be part of the film in some way. What they need to do is to hire a really interesting writer hungry for making a great Indiana Jones movie. Maybe Spielberg can then find enough enthusiasm to actually shoot a decent action scene again. Edgar Wright, maybe?

That's a very interesting idea- you'd imagine that Tintin is very close to Indy in feel; perhaps he'd be interested in bringing the writing team from that onboard to Indy. I'd love Steven Moffat to be invloved but I'm sure he'd have no time left now he's head honcho on Doctor Who- but I know that Joe Cornish is a massive Indy fan and I'm sure Edgar Wright would be too. A very interesting idea...

I need to read the Frank Darabont script for Indy 4. It can't possibly have been less interesting than what they ended up using (even the reported scene of a monkey pooping on Indy would have been funnier than some of the Bugs Bunny/Jar Jar-ish B) that ended up in Crystal Skull).

Yes, well worth a read.

"The story for Indy5 is progressing. It is still in the research phase."

they're searching for the MacGuffin, probably. B)

I hope they find it before Indy does.

I read "does" as "dies" the first time around.

the newer CGI elements were George's ideas.

You'd think that, but you'd be entirely wrong.

I don't actually mind the CGI elements. The only real problem I have with the film - and it's a very big one - is its pacing, particularly the way it grinds to a halt after Doomtown and is just talk talk talk for what seems like hours.

I'll say this for CRYSTAL SKULL, though: it does have some decent dialogue. The line "I may be able to understand it if I walk it through Mayan" raises a smile, while Marion's "For Pete's sake, Jones, we're not in school!" has me guffawing.

I also like:

"You're a teacher?!?"

"Part time."

and Indy lamenting that he has reached a stage where life starts taking things away instead of giving is a great character moment.

I'm quite more excited about this morsel of Indy V news than I should be considering there pretty much nothing to go on. Lucas has been saying since Crystal Skull wrapped that he was in 'think mode'. So now they have might have an idea, but need to do much research before evening thinking about starting a script. I think it's better for my well being if I assume that Indy V is not going to happen unless a final script materializes.

Yep. My favourite moments in Kingdom are those great little classic Indy touches such as him flicking through an old book to try and figure stuff out with his Professor glasses on or when he's wandering through old caves or wasteland in full-on archaeologist mode trying to figure stuff out. It's when the jokey Last Crusade-style action turns up that I lose interest (the chase with the decapitation of the Brody statue, the overdone greasers fight in the diner, the gopher, the horribly clunky "humour" after the bike crashes through the classroom desks etc). More of the drier Raiders style humour and less of the Moonraker/Last Crusade/Kingdom-style comedy codas to each action scene would be terribly welcome in the next film if indeed it does get made.

I was wondering, do you think that Indiana Jones V will be officially announced at Comic Con in July? It seems an ideal place, considering we were given a sneak peak at KOTCS there back in 2007.

The film overall is very short. This is the same gripe I have with Quantum Of Solace.

For Example, when Indy and Mutt are on the bike, literally 20mins later, they're in the middle of a jungle! And 20mins after that, the credits roll!

It's far too short.

It needed to be longer, and the script needed a MAJOR polish. The latter half of the film could be written by an 11 year old, it's that bad. It's as if David Keopp wrote the first part, then Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Lee Tamahori wrote the second. With Michael Apteds wife writing specifically for Marion and Irina. B)

I genuinely hated KOTCS. The script was inconsistent, cliche ridden, and predictable. The direction, while passable, did nothing for the characters, the locations, nor the "stunts," which were anything but exhilarating and often were too crowded by CGI and "gags" that were not in the least bit amusing. The film dragged tremendously for its entirety, and felt bogged down primarily by the ham fisted attempts at humor, suspense, and romance; in other words, the film failed to send me into the fun, exciting world of Indiana Jones.

The alien plot, surprisingly enough, is the closest thing to the old school adventures that we get in the film. It fits the rest of the Indy mythology perfectly, the filmmakers just failed to make it interesting and, in a very loose sense, thought provoking. The other Indy adventures, at least for me, had a sense of "wow, I wonder if that stuff is really out there somewhere?" with the closest scene in KOTCS to this being the flying saucer emerging from below the temple. That was the only moment in the whole film where I though, "Hmmm, now there's an interesting thought." In the end, it was NOT the film it could have been, and if they DO greenlight a fifth installment, I hope those involved take the time to make a very strong adventure film that will topple anything seen in recent years (I'm looking at you, "National Treasure"). Now that we have Mutt in place to be an apprentice to Indiana, and Harrison Ford hopefully willing to deliver a stronger performance, AND not to mention having the great Steven Spielberg involved in some capacity, there is no reason for a fifth film to leave us all hanging like the last one did.

You could said Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade was equally clicheed, but that film was nevertheless amazingly entertaining, and in my eyes also one of the funniest films ever made (no, really). When an Indy film bores me out of my skull, it has sinned.

Indiana Jones movies SHOULD have an element of character to them, and for that reason I don't think we'll ever see Bay near the franchise.

On the topic of Last Crusade, I can definitely agree that the film has its fair share of cliches (Henry Jones Sr. has some terrible lines following the tank scene). What makes that film so enjoyable, though, is exactly what you have stated, Ghost. It is comical, and actually in a good way (as opposed to the "I like Ike" way). While the man we see on screen is most certainly not the man of the previous films, he is still as charming and as fun as ever, with still the right amount of ruggedness to make him Indiana Jones. The movie is also paced fairly well, with the only dragging occurring during the start in Utah and the Portuguese Coast. It is a lighthearted adventure film that still carries something of an edge and more importantly that sense of wonder that makes the movies so great.

So did I.

As far as the LAST CRUSADE is concerned, my problem is less that the approach has a strong emphasis on comedy, and more that it all seems phoned-in. Sure, KINGDOM now takes the cake on that score, but CRUSADE lacks the crackling energy of the first two installments.

Hmmm. I can't say I'm much of a fan of that line, BUT I absoloutly LOVE the "Don't be a child! Find something to fight with!" line, playing over the Indiana Jones theme really sounds magical.

While both ROTL and Temple of Doom are perhaps better made films, with better action and more energy, The Last Crusade might be my favourite in the franchise, thinking about it. The chemistry between Connery and Ford is simply uneatable, and though I liked the character of Mutt in Crystal Skull, I couldn't help but miss the kind of father and son humour displayed in TLC.

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as the legendary explorer - despite being almost 70. Harrison, who turns 67 later on this month, will play the role of Indy in the fifth film in the series and it is claimed it will be his last performance as the adventurer.

It is claimed filming will not start until next year, and it will not be released before 2011, when the star will be 69.

A source said: “Harrison has kept himself in good shape and could still do a lot of the stunts in the last film.”

The source added: “But it’s obviously not going to get any easier the older he gets. He certainly would never have imagined playing Indiana Jones when he was nearing 70!”

Pink Slips Rain Over Paramount

1 July 2009 4:54 AM, PDT

Even as Paramount's top executives were cheering the rise of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to the top of the box office on Tuesday, other executives at the studio were receiving notices that they were no longer needed. Some 31 pink slips were delivered to executives and production staff Tuesday. A memo to the staff said that the layoffs were intended to streamline the company's leadership. Among the executives let go was Guy Stodel, head of Paramount Vantage, the specialty film division that co-produced 2007's No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood with Disney's Miramax. But except for No Country, other releases by the unit have failed to score at the box office. Last month, Paramount moved Paramount Vantage's marketing, distribution, and physical production departments into the main studio. The latest personnel cuts also came on the same day that it was reported that Paramount was in discussions with Sony and Fox on possibly combining their home video production and distribution operations.

I don't think Indy has been affected.

Harrison is THE man, and won't "croak". He appears to be in better shape than most people half his age.

Thinking of it, he's been my favourite actor since I was around seven. That will likely never change.

Indiana Jones 5: Release date for 2011

Reports of the release of the new Indiana Jones 5 movie, quiet frankly is a report that you wish you never had of heard. Not only is the suspense going to kill us because the release date is not until 2011, but the reports are very unclear if true at all.

According to our source Slash Film, it not exactly set in stone, due to unnamed sources of information and a slight difference in opinion. It has been said that Steven Spielberg has completed the story line and is preparing to shoot the much awaited adventure movie.

It has been reported that Harrison Ford will grace our screens again as Indy, causing even more controversy as the star will be 69 when the film is due to be released. Not only are we all confused, but it certainly looks like we are in for a long wait.

the story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again.
