All blame for anything in CRYSTAL SKULL has to be laid at the door of Spielberg. As he said in an interview, at the end of the day, it's his film. Not Lucas'.Nah I think George Lucas is to blame.I'm game for another sequel if--and I never thought I'd say this: IF...they replace Steven Spielberg. I lay the bulk of the blame for the Crystal Skank on him.

Both Lucas and Spielberg had equal oversight over Koepp's screenplay, and Spielberg is allowed to revise the script as he saw fit. Sure, the bad ideas *might* have been Lucas' (hard to say, honestly, what belongs to Spielberg and what belongs to Lucas), but anything Lucas brings up Spielberg was in a position to veto. But it's Lucas who supervised the script. And you notice it.

Iron Man was so much better Indy 4 was junk and hopefully they'll leave it alone,
Yes I hope they leave Indy alone but this last one certaintly was not junk. Indy 4 blows the last two out of the water.

I'm sorry I must have been watching a completely different film to you, Doom & Crusade were flawed but they had charm, their is none in this effects led green screened imposter. Indianna Clones more like.

Instead of desperately chasing Raiders like the last two films did, CS actually did something alot more bold and took the time to do so. Also the historical content was coming out the wazoo.

It all the great Indy trade marks and just because you see CGI it's now an impostor. All we were missing really was Douglas Slocombe's cinematography.

I'd say it clung to the coattails of Raiders like mad.Instead of desperately chasing Raiders like the last two films did, CS actually did something alot more bold and took the time to do so.
If Douglas Slocombe had been able to photograph the film, at least it would have looked nice. All we were missing really was Douglas Slocombe's cinematography.
But the script would still have been crap.

How so? I don't see a lot of RAIDERS in KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. I do see a good deal of CRUSADE, though.I'd say it clung to the coattails of Raiders like mad.

reused music
Yes, I cant believe they reused the Raiders March, they should've had some originality, Oh and god forbid, they used Marions theme aswell. Strange, since that is her theme and she was in the movie.

For a follow-up weekend, KINGDOM's still doing quite respectably. The movie's still well on its way to pulling in more than $320 million domestically.Indy gets beat down by the Fab four of Sex n the city. Oh dear. No more sequel talk this week!

By the way, as I came out of the theater I happened to glance at the various preview posters for upcoming attractions.. One in particular caught my eye.. It was grey in color and featured a silhouetted figure holding a huge machine gun..No title.. just a number and a release date.."007 November 2008".. Me thinks that if the poster is already in theaters, the teaser trailer can't be far behind!!

I have to say I was actually kind of surprised at all the Sex and the City articles and coverage over the past week or so. For a show that has been off for, what four years or so, it does still have a ton of interst.I can't say I'm surprised, "Sex" has an absolutely enormous following.
Now I'm seeing all kinds of Hulk ads and merchandise. This is why I'm glad Bond has fall openings these days. With summer it gets a week or two of hype before the next big event comes along. There seems to be more time to build an audience and staying power in the latter part of the year.
It has been more than a week since I've seen Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I was pumped with Indy hype beforehand. I didn't dislike the film, but my enthusiasm has waned a lot since then. I really don't find myself thinking about it or discussing it much with others the way I do with films I really like.

Marion Ravenwood and son,
So what ? Marion has been due for a return for some time. She is the only women Indy ever really loved. I also don't know why you are counting a new character as clingling on the coat tails of Raiders.
a cameo appearance by the Ark of the Covenant,
For what ? Five secounds ?
directly copied camera shots,
When ?
reused music and sound effects,
The sound effects are trademarks so that isn't surprising. I heard some reused music but not un-usual for a movie series.
a truck chase, etc.
A truck chase ? Wow, this is the most vague one you have come with yet. Yes there was one in Raiders but it wasn't even the same.

When ?
As for the rest of it; I'm not going to get into a slanging match with you. I stand by what I've said.

I thought it was pretty clear they were trying to evoke the 1950s B-movie alien aesthetic.Flying saucers and green aliens. Am I the only one who was dissapointed with the lack of creativity in the alien design?

Fair enough but this so called clingling you're claiming is ranging from understandable to pretty vague at best. Indy 4 belongs right next to Raiders as one the best.

Yeah, I just hoped they would'nt go down that road. The ending would have been a lot more interesting if they gave us something we hadn't seen before.

Seeing what they look like takes away all the mystery. If they had just used the crystal skeletons I would have been fine with that. Then they are either alien remains, or they are artifacts made to honour the gods. In my opinion, it needed to be done in a way that hinted at alien life, but also made the viewer skeptical if it really is that.

It would have been better without seeing the alien.

At the end of an Indy film there is no specualtion, you see the super natural artifact in action. It would have been a totally ineffective ending if the audience had to guess what the artifact in question really was.

Nope. Not vague at all. This film directly references Raiders of the Lost Ark (and Last Crusade) all the way through.
Listen, you were the one who was trying to make out that this film is doing something original, and the other two follow-ups were just "chasing Raiders" (which isn't true in the case of Temple of Doom, anyway).
All I was doing is pointing out that this film does exactly the same thing. I didn't even say there was anything wrong with it.
Besides, you may have noticed that I was addressing those points to Harmsway, who knows his stuff, and, I assume, thought they were perfectly legitimate points.

Yes the Ark and undertsand but mentioning a truck chase that wasn't the same ?

Alright maybe I should have said Temple of Doom chasing Raiders but it wasn't that good of a film.
