some logos are unavoidably in the shot because of where the action is being shot
The Venice scenes always remind me of the British horror film, Don't Look Now. It reminds me of the Pepsi Cola advert in that movie, which is just there to show that these brands are everywhere.
Also - the red dress Vesper wears is the same colour as the red theme in that earlier film. Apparently the red dress is an homage to Don't Look Now.

When Bond and Vesper are lying on the beach, and Bond says "I suppose M won't miss me for a couple of days, She'll be too busy sweating Mathis.", Vesper's reply of "Mathis?" with her facial expression suggest that she has no idea that he is involved, and her consequent concerned facial expression suggests a realization that he has been framed. That single moment leads me to believe that Mathis really is innocent (as the the actor has said).

I've long been contemplating that scene, and Vesper's reaction. I think there's also the possibility that Vesper never considered Mathis was involved, and that was because, as Bond says later, it could've been a double-blind set up by Mr. White. Maybe we'll know more with Bond 22.Something I just noticed now,

Well, though I saw an Universal Exports folder in Dryden's desk when he goes for the gun, but I wasn't quite sure.
Yep it's there under the gun.

Can anyone help me out here: I've watched the DVD twice now, and in the scene with Dryden, Dryden says "Your file shows no kills, but it takes..." and then Bond says "Two."
I am sure that in the theatre version, or at least on the trailer, Dryden said "Your file shows no kills, but to become a Double-O it takes..." (Bond: "Two"). But those words are definitely not in the scene on my DVD of Casino Royale. Am I just imagining this, or can someone else tell me if they remember these words being said by Dryden too?
It was said that way in the trailer.

5. the way Bond walks up and says 'may i join you?' at the ocean club casino.. this few seconds of film to me is just iconic. you see how classy he can be as well as tough as nails. its like bond being born again before your eyes.
Exactly. The relax ease of the delivery. Very Conneryesque. I think that's why Craig works so well for me. He has captured the "qualities" of Connery without copying him. And he's a TRUE actor. He has BECOME Bond, instead of like the other actors who just played the role with a wink to the camera (i.e. Moore, Brosnan).

When Bond orders his made-up drink, I now notice that Felix doesn't join in the ordering because he wants the drink, particularly, he wants to join in the annoying of Le Chiffre, his adding of "keep the fruit" is the last straw for Le C., who wants to keep the energy going at the table, but is now pissed off at all the time wasting. Then Felix gives Bond a conspiratorial look with "Someone's in a hurry", he obviously gets what Bond was up to.
I took the "Keep the fruit" line to be an easy way for the audience and Valenka to be able to tell which drink was Bond's and which one was Leiter's when she poisons Bond. But I like your explanation a lot better.

The line would have served a dual purpose as described above. One to show the audience which drink belonged to which character, and the other to rile Le Chiffre. Regardless of the meaning, the way the line was delivered by Jeffrey Wright was extremely cool!
Agreed. Jeffrey Wright's delivery of that line was superb. I certainly hope that he gets a lot more screen time in Bond 22 than he did in CR.

There's the exact same DON'T LOOK NOW homage in HOSTEL.

When Bond first meets Mathis, Mathis says "...there's no we, just me".
Later on when Bond is recovering at the hospital and Mathis is asking if Bond remembers anything that can help 'us', Bond says "Help us, or help you?", before he gets tazered.
Intentional or not?

And Bond appears to be listening to "Radio Bahamas", you can see it on the dashboard when he's looking at the 3D map on his cellphone en route to the Ocean Club.

There's a small dialogue parallel which may just be a coincidence, or it can be interpreted as a neat quip from Bond:
When Bond first meets Mathis, Mathis says "...there's no we, just me".
Later on when Bond is recovering at the hospital and Mathis is asking if Bond remembers anything that can help 'us', Bond says "Help us, or help you?", before he gets tazered.
Intentional or not?
I think absolutely intentional.
I just noticed in the poker hand where its down to Bond, Le Chiffre, and Felix Leiter, that the dealer never mentions Felix's name, whereas every other time in the film he's always saying "Monsieur Le Chiffre" and "Monsieur Bond". Felix checks and folds but never gets a name check from the dealer! Obviously this is done to keep Felix's identity in the film a secret until he introduces himself.
I've always assumed that he would have been playing under a false name.

I've never noticed the "MENU" screen in the theaters, but I did notice it when I popped my DVD in.
Strange, huh?
I thought I was the only one! Speaking of which, my DVD version is considerably SMALLER as well - I remember the cinema screen being dozens of feet across, this one maybe only about 37 inches.
Seems a bit of a ripoff, considering the cinema cost $9 and the DVD $28.

Something I noticed on the umpteenth viewing, is the bandages on the fingers of Vesper's right hand, when she and Bond are in the garden and Mendel arrives. I would like to know if they are "Vesper's" bandages or Eva's? Are they there as a result of Vesper's torture or did Eva have a mishap I haven't read about?
In the original script it was implied that Valenka was torturing Vesper in the other room - she asks Le Chiffre for some pliers!

I was unaware of this. I figured it was from when she injured her hands knocking the gun out of...er...the hands of the guy who Bond fought in the stairwell (you'll have to excuse me, for some reason I have the damndest time remembering everyone's name in CR). Although in hindsight that doesn't make much sense since you don't see the bandaids before that. I guess I was loving watching that movie too much to really worry about it.
