He types in a "5" and a "4". Neither of those numbers have a letter that corresponds with "vesper" though they would spell "ellipsis".

Neil

I noticed that in a further cinema viewing but haven't checked it on dvd yet. Seems likely, if the makers changed their minds and did a rewrite. They'd have to choose between using the original take and hoping no-one would notice or doing a reshoot of an insert.

First time bond enters the casino private room, he crosses Le Chiffre bald henchman, who turns and watch him passing by before going.

Bond also walks past the other henchman Leo, who later gets arrested for having Obanno's body in the boot of his car.

The guy at the embassy who tries to reason with Bond before he blows everything up and makes his escape says: "Laissez tomber." ("Let him go.")

I note this because I'd always misheard the line as "Listen to me", until, watching the scene on DVD, my high school French suddenly reappeared and thwacked me over the head.

On Bond being tortured, Le Chiffre gloating to the effect that regardless of Bond living or dying he could always turn himself in; accordingly, Bond realises that he is an expendable pawn and repeats, in apparent self-awareness, the line about "the bigger picture".

Whilst there have been hints of this before with the Dench M, that she would send a man to his death or Bond's freedom coming at too high a price, that sort of guff, it always rang a bit hollow because she was talking about the Brosnan James Bond, big megahero. Here, however, is one of the few times the films have even dared suggest that, as well as 007 being just a number, Bond is just a man. Quite chilling, really, and gives the "You don't trust anyone, do you?" dialogue towards the film's end a bit more of an edge than I first thought. There's no evident reason for him to trust her, either.

Yeah, it's quite noticeable in the stairwell fight, too. The stuntman's much chunkier than Craig.

hello everyone.. good to be back.

had a bit of a break from these boards.. i was a die hard craig/casino roayle supporter..i raged, ranted and railed so much in daniel craigs favour here for the year prior to casino royale's release that once i saw the film ( many times ) i couldnt bring myself to come back here and write what would have surely been many thousands of words about it and how great he was ( i loved it obviously ) i was drained!.. so i took my time in returning to this site! one thing is that his performance is still powerful and electrifying every time i watch it. the films not perfect but its damn fantastic and he is superb.

anyway..ive watched the dvd lots and it keeps being exciting for some reason.. i still cant believe it exists. and im still thrilled at how well DC has done and how great everything worked out in the end. pretty much beyond my wildest dreams. ive noticed some cool little things in the film amidst all the obvious great bits:

1. the distant plane that flies across the night sky in dryden's ofice in 2 shots. ( his soon to be departed soul perhaps?)

2. the way Bond puts his sunglasses in his top pocket just before M tells him about le chiffres gambling/poker game etc. ( out in the weird veranda thing in the bahamas after the miami plane scene ).. check it out, its tiny but cool.

3. the tiny smile bond gives when he sees on the security camera screen the germans surrounding their car ( which he smashed up ).

4. the way bonds yacht is just off the shore of mr whites villa at the very end. so cool for bond to have sailed there.. i hope im right here. legend.

5. the way Bond walks up and says 'may i join you?' at the ocean club casino.. this few seconds of film to me is just iconic. you see how classy he can be as well as tough as nails. its like bond being born again before your eyes.

6. the only tonally strange bits in terms of craigs performance for me are the beach scenes at the end. where he says about 'no soul left to salvage'. i dont dislike this part at all but his performance seems very slightly out with the rest of his bond. i was wondering - what was the very first dialogue scene filmed? was it this one by any chance. i really dont know if it is but its certainly feels different if not slightly unsure of itself.

7. just how great the tuxedo scene is.

8. how cool leiter and bond's chemistry and relationship is after just a few scenes in the film.

9. how when M finds Bond in her appartment, Bond is shuffling a deck of cards.. ( anyone see that? )

10. the way craig/bond handles his gun throughout the movie - checking it in the car in the carpark without looking, the way he handles it after its taken out of the package in the lift, the way he reloads in the sinking house in venice.. cold, deadly, drilled.

11. the darkness of his smile when the guy blows up at miami airport. bond the sadist played perfectly. watch it - he doesnt even blink.

12. in the train scene the way craig leans back and says 'you've heard the term?' . pure class.

The very slight pause as Bond is leaning agaisnt the wall before he decides to start chasing Mollaka, quality! He knows the other guy has a head start but hey he's James Bond, he'll still catch him right?

I noticed the stunt guy issues mostly on the crane scenes as well. Don't quite know how they managed to choose a guy with blonder hair than Craig's.

Wow, I was still mishearing it as "Listen to me", and thought it was odd that he says "listen to me" but then doesn't follow up with anything for Bond to listen to.

What i noticed from watching in the Cinema to watching it on DVD is the God awful editing that took place just after Solange is with Bond. Sorry i can't get over it.
The rest you have all said is what i will be looking out for next time, but as they are quite small it won't effect me much as that butcher job i feel they did with that one scene, it makes no sense. What were they thinking.

I noticed this. There is also a plane flying in the background in the scene at M's house.

i asumed he just didn't want mollaka to know there was somebody else after him. after all mollaka only starts running cuz carter can't hang fire

alright... i got another cool CR thing to add to my list! ( above )

13. When Bond first goes to the table in the ocean club casino against Dimitreos - after the 1st hand i think - Bond/Craig just stares at him with this merciless look for about 6 seconds unblinking.. it's more like a tiger watching its prey than a poker face. dark and funny. It's like he already knows he's going to take his car, his woman and his life in the next 24hrs. It doesn't get more Bondian than that.

I love the shot of Bond's eyes following Vesper's slinking walk to the bar, in the casino scene.

Can anyone help me out here: I've watched the DVD twice now, and in the scene with Dryden, Dryden says "Your file shows no kills, but it takes..." and then Bond says "Two."

I am sure that in the theatre version, or at least on the trailer, Dryden said "Your file shows no kills, but to become a Double-O it takes..." (Bond: "Two"). But those words are definitely not in the scene on my DVD of Casino Royale. Am I just imagining this, or can someone else tell me if they remember these words being said by Dryden too?

Also, I agree with the comments above about the password Bond enters - it is definitely not "Vesper". This is so obvious on a re-viewing, when you know what to look out for. All I can think is that they included this mistake deliberately, as a little in-joke, because it is unforgivable otherwise!

When Bond shoots Dryden, there's a frame showing a photo of him with his family, then he's thrown from his chair. Never saw the photo till I got the DVD and was able to hit "pause" to freeze it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but can anyone screen grab the moment Bond turns to look at M once he is leaving her flat and she calls him.

I swear he looks as if he has been crying, or getting teary as his eyes look glazed and red, and he acts like he is swallowing his pride and upset.

Anyone help? Or can anyone else see this?

Was it a cut moment from the film where it showed Bond go weak to M?

Is it possible they put that in there deliberately, to keep the audience from figuring it out in advance?

Also, sorry about my previous reference to the Dryden photo, which had already been mentioned earlier. Yet another case of, "I should've read the entire thread before replying!"

Something else I didn't notice until I'd watched the DVD a few times was that, starting with her "green dress" scene at the hospital, Vesper wears far less makeup than she did in earlier scenes. If she's wearing any eyeshadow at all, it's very understated . . . and, as a result, Vesper's (or, more accurately, Eva Green's) natural beauty comes through.

I saw the film in the theatre eight times, and have watched the DVD four or five times; I don't recall this scene being edited any differently on the DVD than it was in the theatrical release.

Talking to M he seems ok, but then when he leaves he looks upset.

I didn't notice that to be honest, and there was no scene in the original script there was no sign of Bond going weak either. Must have just caught Craig at a bad angle that made him look teary-eyed!

David Arnold's music goes all "British romantic comedy" during Bond and Vesper's exchange about dresses and dinner jackets in the hotel room.

Ah this thread's still going is it...I did notice the other day in the scene where Michael G.Wilson gets arrested, he is sitting under a large umbrella with the Heineken logo on it. Subtle product placement there, as I'm only noticing it on, what, 12th viewing.
