I always assumed that as soon as Bond found out Dimitrios was leaving, he was out of there. He was all business with Solange even when pretending to be interested in her. So I'm thinking he didn't waste time with her beyond that point. He ordered room service to make it sound to her like he was staying (and maybe as a consolation prize for her), but then dashed off to the airport to chase after her husband. Solange's first realization that Bond wasn't there may well have come when room service delivered his order.

This is my interpretation as well.

Yes, this was my take on the scene.

I noticed a couple neat (maybe even artistic!) shots from Campbell.

The first is a ground-looking-up shot in which we see both Mollaka and Bond jumping down at the same time. Mollaka of course is ahead in the race so he

So I had a Christmas Day DVD viewing of CASINO ROYALE (not having Sky, I couldn't watch the TV broadcast), and noticed the following:

- The scene after the stairwell fight where Bond cleans himself up and tries to pull himself together is remarkably similar to a scene in LAYER CAKE, although I'm sure that this has already been pointed out many times.

- When Bond and Vesper are relaxing on the beach, Bond tells Vesper she's the only person whose "tell" he can't figure out and that that may be why he loves her. She replies, in a very surprised voice, "You love me?" What's a little odd about this is that we've only just had the scene in which Bond goes on about "Whatever is left of me, whatever I am, I'm yours" - which I would have thought kinda implied that he loved her. Not that we're necessarily supposed to think that the beach scene takes place immediately after that lovey-dovey stuff at the clinic, but it's a little strange that Vesper should say "You love me?" as though this information were news to her. It's no big deal, but perhaps a small kink in the script that might have been ironed out.

Or perhaps a sign of Vesper's continuing insecurity. I wouldn't be surprised that she still believed - at that time - that Bond might be interested in her for physical reasons, no matter what he had said.

Up until then I feel that Vesper thinks that Bond is just still in it for lust, but when Bond confirms that it's really love she is a little taken aback. And to confirm his love for her he takes her to "lovey-dovey" Venice.

Just a small observation after watching the DVD.

It seems Bond, despite being 'colder' in this incarnation and such, is extremely polite in this movie. Everyone who serves him (the valet, the waiter on the train, the waiter in the casino after the victory, etc) he says 'thank you'.

Echoing earlier the 'Connery-esque' comments of his style, I have always thought this very cool. Especially with the deep voice he uses when saying it. He's not condescending to any of the people that take care of him, but there's still a subtle air of extreme confidence about it.

I always noticed this, too. This seems to me to be a subtle indicator that, as Vesper puts it, he didn't come from money.

LadySylvia and Blofeld's Cat, good points. I guess that not only is Vesper insecure (which is something established from her very first scene), but, given the secrets she's hiding from Bond, a part of her doesn't want to believe he loves her, hence her surprised "You love me?".

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there's no other Bond film that offers so much to chew over, debate and ponder. A masterpiece. :D

It's a bank holiday here in Aus and as they never show Bond on Bank Holiday (I do miss some things from the UK) I watched my CR DVD.
One small detail which has probably been mentioned is when Mollaka enters the embassy building. He runs around the corner and appears to hand a document/pass to a guard to get in, however the guard is already holding the document as Mollaka comes round the corner and bends over in near exhaustion.

Exactly. But with that, you've answered your own question, Loomis. Although she loves him, she doesn't want Bond to fall in love with her because she has betrayed/is betraying him and knows she is going to die soon. She thinks he deserves better.

As for the term, "Bank Holiday", I've been in Australia 4 years and I still sometimes use it. Bank Holiday is the British term for public holiday. In the UK, on Bank Holidays, everyone is off work.

There's no bad editing with the guard reading something and being on the phone, it's all in one take : Molloka runs towards the guard who is already on the phone holding a piece of paper. I agree the shot is a bit confusing, you think Mollaka may have given a pass to the guard to go thru, but he does not, at any point do this. He just runs, catches his breath and then next we see him running inside the embassy ground. The guard is probably doing something else, or maybe they had a bit of suspense where the guard is occupied slowing down Mollaka, and they cut it out.

Yeah I've got a problem with the same scene. Mollaka doesn't actually hand anything to the guard, but we are sort of given that impression by the guard holding that piece of paper. But Mollaka doesn't actually hand him anything (that we can see).

The thread bump from hell...

Well, amazingly, on what must be the 20somethingth viewing, I saw something new. When Bond finally beats Le Chiffre at poker, as Le Chiffre gets up to walk away, you can see blood trickling out of his eye. Is everyone else aware of this? Can't believe I never noticed it before!

But don't you generally have to show a passport or some papers to get into an embassy?...

(Unless you sneak in, like Bond...)

My take on this scene is that Mollaka handed some form of ID to the guard in one of the cuts to Bond.

The original script revealed that Molloka was a former embassy employee, so maybe the guards were familiar enough with him to just wave him in. Maybe this was filmed and edited out later (you can catch the tail end of that conversation between Molloka and the official right before Bond walks in and beats them up!)

BTW also recently noticed for the first time that when Molloka jumps on and off the rising elevator, there's actually somebody inside it!

Hey, glad this thread was brought back up. There are two strange sound cues during the parkour/embassy scene -

1. When Bond is running up the crane, as he gets to the top, you can hear someone shouting what appears to be "Come on, Daniel, keep it up!". This might be like that strange bit in the AVTAK PTS where the Russian who gets thrown off the skimobile appears to shout "Roger Moore" in the middle of his ranting.

2. When Bond is smashing up the embassy, it cuts to the platoon of guards in the courtyard. Their captain orders his troops to move by saying what sounds remarkably like "Come on, y'all!". Maybe he's on loan from a base in the deep south?!

Well how do we know? Maybe Bond's cover in Madagascar was as a tourist named Daniel

I noticed in the scene with Mr.White and Obanno, before Le Chiffre arrives, there are some strange edits, they must have filmed and cut out the script dialogue about the Lords Resistance Army.
