That's cool, I just feel that DVD has spoiled us. More often than not I see people getting upset because the DVD has no (or just a few) extras. I used to feel that way too, but I've found recently I barely watch (or listen) to any of them. So just buying the first release is good enough for me.

For me the problem is the double dipping. If the release was the best they could make it, fine. It is a different matter when they have obviously crippled the initial release simply to get people to buy the same movie twice. Moreover, the only people who buy both versions are going to be the true fans of the movie, like you and me. They are screwing over the audience that made the film a massive success in the first place, trying to squeeze every last penny from them.

Ugh. Why is there a link to buy the fullscreen DVD on the main page under the countdown?

Eh, true fan or not (though I really take issue with that term), I'm only buying myself one release. And that will be the initial release coming out next March. If they want to double dip, that's fine with them, but I'm not going to wait a few months just to get the "better" version.

Maybe I could have worded that better. What I was trying to say is casuals won't be buying it twice. The people who see it on the shelf and go "this might be a decent flick." They're not going to fork out when Sony is looking for the second donation.

I wasn't trying to say you weren't a true fan unless you bought both. I don't intend on buying both even though I might cave in.

I wasnt having a go at you, I just in general take issue with the word, especially when people use it to say they're a bigger fan than someone else. Not that you were doing that, just pointing out my disdain for that phrase.

Now I fear I've taken this thread off topic :cooltongue:

Given the Spider-Man DVD comparrisons raised, this bit of news kinda rams the point home:

http://www.dvdactive...iderman-21.html

To be fair, if the double-dip CR DVD were a true extended cut - not a few muintes of trims, but the genuine return of footage that enhances the movie - I'm happy to shrug and say 'fair enough'. If it's just docs, commentaries and trailers they could have done the first time...well, I'll choke on my Vesper.

And yes, okay, then go out and buy it anyway...

Yeah, I just got a new LCD TV and realised I won't be able to hold off from seeing CR on this thing. I will just buy this first version and that will be it for me.

I'm perfectly happy with my purchase. DVDs and HD TV look great on this baby.

Besides early adopters tend to have a habit of getting burned. I'm not investing in a format that might be dead in 2-3 years. I'm sure it will look spectacular on blu ray, but I'm happy with DVD for now. :cooltongue:

This is so disappointing. I loved Casino Royale and can't wait to see it again, but am sick of buying films twice-I've already done that with the previous Bonds and a few other films. Aside from trying to work out which region has the uncensored version!

I'm tempted to buy it,but really think I should wait,it's obvious they're holding back material. I'll tell you what I might do-a mate of mine gets pirate DVDs for 2 or 3 quid each,he can probably get Casino Royale for me. I don't really believe in buying pirates,as the filmmakers and studios lose out and I like extras, but I don't want to give those money grabbing bastards at Sony money for the same film twice!

People, what is the big deal. You can get this version for under $20.00 on DVD and around $30 on BD. If they come out with a more extensive package later, you're only out $20.00. You should just be glad that it is transfered at a high bit rate and coming out so soon after the theatrical release.

If you're torn on whether you can or can't wait for the inevitable collector's edition, just rent the initial release. Better yet, rent it online! You can keep it as long as you want.

I think this has to do with Sony. After all, Sony is notorious for multiple releases on DVD. And since they co-produced CR with MGM, I'm sure the strategy comes from their side. I think for the first time ever I'll rent a Bond movie when it hits DVD instead of buying it. Though I bought the new box sets, I still have my first special editions of all the other Bond films, many of which are signed. The whole double-dipping thing is an insult to fans, in my opinion.

Best,

HAHA. The current page for the HMV "combo pack" with the Bond On Set mini book lists one of the special features as "What's My Name?" Music Video. I didn't know Cornell was a rapper. :cooltongue:

Now there's an idea.

As I look over at my video collection, I see movies I've only watched two or three times. Then they begin to collect dust. If I can get through the initial release DVD, maybe I can hold off until the second one comes out. Provided, of course, I don't rent it more than three times. :cooltongue: ...That'll be the test.

Judging by how poorly the PS3's are selling, their strategy should be:

Free PS3 with purchase of Casino Royale Blu-ray DVD

Menu shots are out. I like 'em. And it looks like they're giving the scene selections only numbers (no names for each specific scene), so at least that has some nice continuity with the UEs. :cooltongue:

Well I will, as you all will, be getting CR on DVD as soon as it hits shelves to go with the collection.

I admit I too am a tad dissapointed with the extras. I love to see what and who goes into making a good Bond film, but I guess we're just being greedy for more Bond goodies!

A trailer or two wouldn't go amiss with some TV spots. They were cool!

Here's to another re-release!
