I have a totally random question about the UE's that nobody will probably have the answer too but i'd like to hear some ideas. Now of all the disc 2s i've seen of the UEs they all have the leading lady on the disc cover except AVTAK which has May Day and not Stacy.
Any ideas why?
YOLT has Aki (not Kissy) on the cover of disc 2.

The poster art for the movie also has May Day instead of Stacey. Clearly indicates that Grace Jones' character is way more interesting than the totally underwhelming Tanya Roberts one.I have a totally random question about the UE's that nobody will probably have the answer too but i'd like to hear some ideas. Indeed. The teaser posters seemed to always focus on the Bond vs. Mayday aspect of the film.

Why are some of these still not in widescreen.
My experience has been that, at least for the R1 UE's, all the films are presented in their original release aspect ratios, some being wider than others. Most are 2.35:1, some are 1.85:1 or 1.78:1 (these numbers might be off somewhat--I can't keep track of them all in my head). None are 1.33:1, which is the aspect ratio used for television, and often reffered to as 'full screen'.
Do you have a UE that features films in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio, Johnboy?

Maybe Grace had more scenes then Roberts, which would make her more recognisable as a Bond Girl than Tanya 'Barbie' Roberts.

Every film in the UE is in its OAR. Dr. No, FRWL and Goldfinger are "narrower" than all the others, because they were shot in 1.66:1. LALD and TMWTGG are also narrow, because they're 1.85:1. Every other Bond film, including Casino Royale, is in glorious 2.35:1. The only reason I can think of for the movies appearing to be fullscreen is that, on some 4x3 TVs, the display can be set for 16x9, which will imitate the effects of a widescreen TV (incorrectly). As a result, a 2.35:1 movie will be cropped into 1.85:1, and a 1.85:1 (or narrower) movie will be cropped into fullscreen. It happened to me a few years ago.

Yep. It really doesn't bother me (it took a while to even notice it), but that was a problem with the last sets too. One would think they'd have fixed it for the UE's.
In any case the picture is great, and that's all I care about.

Sounds like it's your DVD player. Can you give us your specs like tv brand and model and dvd player brand and model? Maybe we can help (that's no way to watch Bond, after all). Also, if you can, look into your player's setting and make sure everything is set correctly.
For a reference, put the disc in your computer and see if it's widescreen or not.

I love the R1 UE's. Just watched LALD and it was amazing.
Watched the opening credits the other night. The 'new' version of the theme song is awesome.

Indeed.
In fact that was one of few gripes that respected Bond critic John Brosnan had with the movie, noting in his 1985 STARBURST review that the expected confrontation between Bond and Mayday never takes place.

also we get the burnt in subtitles for the brosnan films instead of player generated subtitles which i think are ugly.

New version?
New in the sense that it's in full surround, 5.1 or DTS. The sound separation is really well done. I also seem to recall reading than unlike the rest of the soundtracks, the original master for the song had been retrieved by George Martin for the UE's. Can't for the life of me remember where I saw that though.
Either way, it sounds immense.

Anyway I got a couple of the US releases of the UE's for Christmas - got vols 3 and 4, both of them the exclusive Walmart releases with books!

Have a couple of questions. Wanted to know if the 2nd disc of the movies are the same elsewhere in the world, primarily the UK (region 2). Actually specifically the Mission Propaganda section of the DVD. I would imagine the trailers on the UK editions would contain the UK trailers and not US. Can anyone confirm this? What about other differences between the 2? What I really want to know is if it is worth buying the UK releases if the extras are different?
Also, I just visited the Ultimate Bond website, and wanted to enter the competition, however where are the DVD codes it is asking for?
Thanks.
Gaz.

Also the layer change in YOLT is pretty bad; at around the 44:00 mark.

Perhaps my glasses need cleaning but I can't even find the competition at jamesbond.com.

Over at hometheaterforum.com a few of us have noticed the following problem with the Moonraker DVD: my player reads "search" just before the 57:00 mark and again just after the 59:00 mark as it pauses briefly both times like a layer change. There can't be two layer changes can there??? These pauses are also in rather conspicuous spots and look pretty awful, and there being two of them (especially so close together) is really annoying. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced these Moonraker hiccups? It seems that some players are seeing this and others are not. I'm using a Pioneer 79avi.

I just watched the R1 UE of Moonraker last night and encountered nothing like what you're describing. I have an LG home theatre system with built in upconverting dvd player (I forget the model number).
I thought the transfer was excellent. And I dug the new documentary features. Continue to be impressed by the UE's.
I've only caught a few glimpses of the YOLT UE so far, so I can't speak to layer changes therein.

I was watching Moonraker last night and only noticed one layer change on it. I believe its when Bond and Manuela have just walked into the alleyway before he breaks into C&W (or somewhere around there).

To the Girl With Golden Gun:
The British R2 releases are UNCUT. AVTAK, Goldeneye, TND and LTK are whole and complete.
thanks for the pointer, but i was referring to the previous "special edition" dvd releases, i think i should have made that more clear in my post. Glad to know that those films have made it to the UE uncut, though
