It stops totaly. But I tried to play it on another DVD player and it worked fine.
That sounds more like a DVD problem rather than a layer change.

I've had a similar problem like this awhile ago, and someone explained that it could be due to one player using 2 lasers and therefore some DVDs may not play well (or at all) on them while the player that the DVD works on uses 3. Something like that, but I could be wrong. It stops totaly. But I tried to play it on another DVD player and it worked fine.

Got sets #2 and #3 for Xmas (R1) and a funny thing about the bonus discs in set #3: the menus are all in Japanese! And every program you select has Japanese subtitles active by default. The actual audio is still all English language though. All 5 bonus discs in the set are this way & while I'm fine with it (I can read the katakana, which is what most of it's written in) it's still pretty odd! My Philips DVD player is region-free, so I don't know if these discs are actually Region 2 with USA labels, or if the menu content was somehow mixed up during mastering/pressing/whatever. Has anyone come across this error or a similar one?

The thing that has really stood out for me is the detail. I have only been skipping around a few of them, but I am seeing things I never saw before. For instance, on the walls of Scaramanga's home are mounted butterflies, and you can actually see birds in the distance when Scaramanga's junk is sailing away as the credits begin to come up.

So, does R1 Goldeneye have these ugly player-generated subtitles instead of the original burnt-in ones? And more importantly, is it cropped as R2?

Believe me, I can use all the space I can on my DVD shelf these days.Accident or design?

Today I got round to taking my UE disks out of the box, and found the slightly slimmer DVD cases mean I can fit 21 Bond movies into the same shelf space that used to hold 20. Very handy, what with Casino Royale on the way.

Does anybody know if the Region 1 DVD's of Tomorrow Never Dies and Goldeneye are the uncut versions?
I believe the US DVD releases of GoldenEye were always the same as the ones the UK just got uncut (as we always had the headbutt scene for example).

Oh I see.....thanks...
On a sidenote....At first when these Ultimate Editions were announced I was so sure I wasn't going to buy them and I was all like "I don't need another collection since I already have the Special Editions" etc, but as the release date was getting nearer I kept reading these reviews about how fantastic these new DVD's are and how they were an improvement over the Special Editions. So I started to think to myself "maybe I will buy them", and then finally about 3 weeks ago I saw the boxes at my local store and they looked awesome. That's when I just couldn't resist and decided I was going to buy them. I got Volume 1 this week and next week I will get Volumes 2,3, and 4.
But now I don't know what to do with my Special Edition Collection...I was thinking of selling them or should I keep them? .... what do you guys suggest?

You won't be getting much money for them anyway
