I guess because someone messed up big.

Sounds like it. I can't imagine why they would forget about all of that from their most recent release.

And the menu on the rear of the slipcase clearly indicates that the 'Additional Materials' disc has the features from the original R1 release. Mistakes do happen. And actually, I've been so pleased with everything else about these, that the overall experience is tremendously positive.

That said, I watched TMWTGG last eve, and found it a bit less spectacular than the others in the package. Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe the SE was already of a high calibre. Definitely an upgrade, but not as mind-blowing as some of the others.

I hope I'm not overselling these, getting expectations too high. My own expectations were mostly in check, so perhaps that has something to do with my feelings about them. But I really don't think anyone would be disappointed. What K1Bond007 says a few posts up is notable, though. If one has an older 'tube' tv, one might not be able to get the full effect of the UE upgrades. I say 'might' because I no longer have a non-HD tv.

Is that error on the R2 also, or just the R1?

Hoo boy, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I got my sets in the mail last night and basically I got TWO booklets for "Live and Let Die" and NO booklet for "The Living Daylights."

I emailed the online store I bought them from and they said they couldn't do anything unless the discs were defective, which they don't seem to be.

I then emailed MGM customer service and a few seconds later I got an "email returned to sender" notice. I tried it a few more times and also this morning and got the same notice.

Am I just out of luck here?

Because even though it's not a huge deal- I'd really like that missing booklet.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Rest assured they'd be appreciated.

Thanks!

The transfers look great, but I'm pissed they didn't release them on Bluray. They will look even better in 1080. We're only getting half the resolution on DVD.

A friend of mine is a Sony rep and got me the Sony Bluray player (hasn't been released yet). The picture looks even better on it than my DVD player. The Bluray player enhances the pic and scales it up to near HD.

i don't think the British versions are that heavily edited, all i know is that a headbut between Xenia and Bond was edited out of the UK DVD of Goldeneye. Aside from that, the others won't be that much different - if the new films had to be 12A for the cinemas, they'll either be a PG or 12 for the dvd release!!

The R1 discs will be released individually on Feb. 6, 2007. Well, at least the first wave comes on that day. Unfortunately, they'll just be single disc editions! I posted the details my blog.

I just ran into the entire series in one of those attache cases. The price was almost $350. Seriously tempting. That's for sure.

To the Girl With Golden Gun:

The British R2 releases are UNCUT. AVTAK, Goldeneye, TND and LTK are whole and complete.

One thing I have noticed, and pardons if everyone has already noticed, is that there seems to be an error on the DAD disc cover.

At the very top of each disc it says the usuak Broccoli and Saltzman present... followed by the title. Of course, with SPY onwards Broccoli was sole producer and the covers reflect this. But on DAD it says 'Harry Saltzman & Albert R Broccoli presents Pierce Brosnan.....

Maybe its intended as a nod to this being the 20th film and 40th annivewrsary, but I've noticed that the newer printings, especiallt the slim line cases in the newer themed box sets, have reverted to "Albert R Broccoli's Eon Productions present...."

Just a minor thing I know, but most of us are sad wnough to actually read the boxes and notice the errors.

Funny how they still insist on releasing the movies in waves, and randomly select titles. For anyone who didn't buy the box sets, because they wanted to wait and see if they got released individually... buy the box sets lol.

Nice comparison on this website of UE R2 and R1 of Licence to kill.

Not much difference, apart from the fact the the R2 compression create some unwanted greenish tint (one of Pal compression regular problems)

Yeah, the ad lists :

Ultimate James Bond Collection: Volume III >>>> $54.99 ****
Ultimate James Bond Collection: Volume IV >>>> $54.99 ****

****Circuit City Exclusive: Save $15 when you buy James Bond Ultimate Collection Volumes III and IV together on the same receipt

So $95 (plus tax) for the pair.

No Best Buy info yet (wonder if there'll be any freebies)

I'll probably end up doing that again. It's a pretty good deal.

The two Dalton flicks and OHMSS should have had a small box for the 'Actor-Specific Boxed Sets'.

My FRWL plays fine, although for whatever reason the disc were switched in the case. Special Features disc was on the left side, and the main film was on the right side. Witch is different then every other UE.

Might be a stupid question, but was the disc damaged/scratched at all? Those problems seems more likely with box sets.

I bet this have been brought up before (but I don't have the time to go thru all 22 pages of this topic sry) but does anybody know why the OHMSS stops in the middle of the film? When Bond is in his room at Blofelds ski place and sneaks out to meat the girls to show them his "book".

Edit: I have the attache case versions

When you say 'stop', does it actually stop or does it pause for a fraction of a second? If it's just a slight pause, that's most likely a layer change and fairly common. If it stops, I've no idea why it would do that.

It stops totaly. But I tried to play it on another DVD player and it worked fine. :) So it seems it's something wrong with my DVD player... maybe
