Just moved the ten "old" DVDs off of the shelf in preparation for these.

These are really going to make my McCarthyism paper impossible to start and finish. :)

OK I bought the whole lot, and watched the first three. Definetly get those, they are the better versions out there (Dr No, Goldfinger, FRWL), however, there is a color saturation problem on Thunderball and YOLT, they look totally washed out, almost monochrome. You can make it up on TD by boosting the color on your tv set, but YOLT done the same way is just awful. The skintones aren't right, and all the flamboyance is lost.
Anyone noticed ?

Haven't seen them yet. But this is precisely why I don't enjoy being forced to purchase some of the UE's that I may not want.

Grr.

My gripe with the YOLT UE is that, like AVTAK, GOLDENEYE and DAD, it's too dark - still, there's undoubtedly more picture detail. As for the THUNDERBALL transfer, though, I think it looks terrific and the colours are great.

The best Connery UE transfers I've seen are DR. NO (possibly the best-looking of the whole bunch) and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. Simply stunning. I've read a lot of good things about FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, but I'm saving it as a sort of appetiser shortly before seeing CASINO ROYALE.

Pretty swank website but it really shows why these covers suck and the original posters were much better. :)

Oh well. I think I'm just going to ask for these for Christmas. May buy box 3 myself.

Trust me. They are in slimcases, I received Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 from Fox a couple of weeks ago.

The boxes are not wide enough to have the DVDs in the traditional DVD packaging, the only way they fit is in slimcases.

Finished the third and last of the Roger Moore commentaries from the DVDs in the first two volumes just this past weekend (on the UE for A View to a Kill). I was dismayed to learn that the 1985 movie is Roger Moore's least favorite of his era. Personally speaking I love the movie.

Incidently, the picture of the outer cases on the Web site above is not a correct representation of the dimenasions of the box. The picture on the Web site is wider than the boxes actually are.

Good-I like the idea of slimcases for Bond anyway.

I hope that they release CR on DVD in a normal case and a similar slimcase for us collectros who adore matching things. Or is it just me?

Glad to hear that Johnboy007. Since TV will be a mess with voter returns, I'm going to commandeer the plasma and watch The Spy Who Loved Me tonight. :P

I hate slimcases, they crack and break easily when opened and closed repetatively. I guess the following can happen:

* Purchase some standard 2DVD amary cases and use the cover artwork in the slim cases for the standard size cases. However after doing a test on a slim case I have here, I don't want to mess up the fold. So, picky as I am, I want to write to MGM and see if I can purchase covers from them that I can place in these new amary 2DVD cases. Anyone know the best way of contacting someone at MGM who can help?

I'll do some research myself and let others know, incase I am not the only anti slimcase person out there. Please activate your navigation system now.

These are the coolest slimcases I've yet seen. Sturdy, they look quite good (irrespective of the photoshop artwork), and they save lots of space. :)

Now, off to dive into these babies. :P Treated myself to both the newly released Region 1 box sets today. Woohoo!

I think as a silmpack, it's nice. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have regular boxes (or one complete set), but they could of been a lot worse. Just finished watching DAF. It is absolutely stunning!

I wandered into the store today. I swore to myself that I would only buy one set, but I simply could not resist. Hence, I have blown all the money I took out of the bank today, but it was worth it. Easy come, easy go.

I have to say, though I am somewhat annoyed by MGMs insistance of having the movies released in mixed order, the sets are very nice and well put together.

Just found out they are also selling them separately here in Portugal, at least in one place, wich is easier for me to buy.

This is going to be some happy Christmas and birthday (five days after). :)

That was the first one that I put on when I got the Ultimate Editions. I like Roger Moore's style in the commentaries though there is some quiet parts where he seems to get lost in watching the movie.

My favorite commentary is the one for A View to a Kill though that could change when I get the other volumes. He also mentions that the guy walking out of one of the shots in San Francisco is Maud Adams boyfriend. :)

Took advantage of the sale at Circuit City & bought vols 1 & 2 today. I'm wondering if they will have a similar sale for vols 3 & 4.

The Spy Who Loved Me looks fantastic!

Loving the new special features as well. Ken Adam's bit on The Spy Who Loved Me was quite cool. While the interactive guide is geared more towards those a little less familiar with Bond, it is still pretty nice. Interesting to watch the gunbarrel alone, the main titles without the credits, etc.

I think the interactive guides are pretty much a waste of space. It clearly is geared towards the casual viewers and not seasoned Bond fans like us.
I liked the Ken Adam home movie from the set but I still think that the perfect documentary for the release would have been the BBCs series on the making of The Spy Who Loved Me.

My only quibble is that the Ministry of Propaganda section is nowhere to be found on the DAD disc. Guess I'll hang onto my original copy.

My Best Buy didn't have the both for $100 deal so I just picked up Volume 1. I'll probably pick up Volume 2 sometime next week. The slim cases actually look pretty cool and the box looks very nice on the shelf. As for the picture and sound quality, all I can say is outstanding. No more film grain, the pictures are crystal clear. Also, they fixed the blue gun barrel in The Man With The Golden Gun. :)

Yeah I watched TSWLM myself last night. [censored]ing fantastic. The picture looks incredible, I'm seeing stuff I never noticed before, like during the battle at the end, when Bond tells the young sailor "Your captain is dead", you can see the sailor's breath fog up. WOW! I never knew it was cold inside the Liparus before! :) And the use of red in this film is striking with the new transfer, makes me appreciate the art direction. Can't wait to watch all the other films now.
