Personally I don't think I'll be getting an HD television or a BlueRay DVD player for three or four years so I may bite the bullet and buy these new DVDs to enjoy NOW.

Yeah the hell with that stuff...the players are $500 minimum right now. When DVD players first came out, they were only $250 or so.

I really don't like these box sets.

Box Set 1 has GF, TMWTGG, DAF, TLD, and TWINE, but honestly, I only want GF and TLD.

Box Set 2 has TB, TSWLM, AVTAK, LTK, and DAD, but the ones I want are TB and TSWLM (I *really* don't want AVTAK and certainly don't want another copy of DAD).

Box Set 3 has FRWL, OHMSS, LALD, FYEO, and GE, but all I want are FRWL and OHMSS.

Box Set 4 has DN, YOLT, MR, OP, and TND, but I only really want DN, YOLT, and MR.

So essentially, I all I want are DN, FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, TSWLM, MR, and TLD (and even of those, the ones *really* want are FRWL, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, MR, and TLD), and without spending inordinate amounts of money, I can't get ahold of them. I am certainly not willing to shell out $240 to get six to nine films. :)

That's more or less the same situation I find myself in. The only movies I want (at least initially) are DN, FRWL, OHMSS, FYEO, TLD, and LTK. I just wish that they were selling these films individually so that I could get one or two, and see if they're even enough of an improvement over the original DVDs to warrant spending the money on the rest of them.

Well, that's not the issue with me - I know the picture quality on these DVDs is leaps beyond what we had before - but it's mainly the principle. I don't want to shell out money for the whole set; I want specific films. And even with the deal a $220 investment gives us (that's about $12 a film), that's still $220!

Yhat's simply NOT true. When DVD players first came out in early 1997 they were around the $700 mark.

Admittedly they did drop in price quite considerably, but it was about two and a half years later (in late 1999) before you could pick one up for less than $300.

They are. Being a completist when it comes to Bond movies I will be getting Vol. 3 and Vol. 4 in December.

Also, (in regards to Blu-ray or HD-DVD) unless you have the top of the line high def TV, you're not going to see much of a difference. In fact, your existing DVDs are going to look even better once you have all the necessary eqipment-- the next DVD format is a waste fo time for now.

Indded, infact the cheapest option for the Japanese was to buy a PS2, which was another factor in the death of my beloved Sega Dreamcast :)

It's a shame that they seemed to have abandoned that option for buyers when it comes to 007 DVDs in the US. Even the past two releases or so of the Special Edition DVDs were only in box sets here.

The original release of the SE DVDs was box sets and individual discs, in Canada at least. I bought LALD, Goldfinger, Thunderball and FYEO individually to supplement the two first issue boxes from 1999/2000 that I bought (volumes 2 and 3) and sold Living Daylights to a friend.

They will get around to releasing them individually this time as well; they're just being smart and making people wait this time so they can sell more boxes. And the individual releases will be in normal keep cases too!

Anyone one have any guesses on what will the sale price will be at what stores come next Tuesday on the UE box sets. All I know is for sure is that Best Buy does not use the list price set for the DVD market most of the time, so their regular price is $69.99, that is what on their website and it the same in store. I'm not sure do they consider that sale price. But if it is their regular price, then the sale price would be so much off of $69.99. Other stores also don't use the list price set for the DVD market most of the time are Circuit City, Costco and Frys. The that do use the list price set for the market as their reuglar price are Borders, Suncoast, FYE, Virgian Mega Stores Tower Records(All 89 stores in the U.S. are closing , so no new things are ordered at all) and Barne And Noble. So their's will be so much off of $89.99 For me I'm going seeing between Best Buy and Costco, who has the better price come next week.

The SE's were available individually in the USA as well. I cannot remember the timing of it, though (boxes first, individuals later?, etc.). I agree that the UE's are very likely to be available individually at some point. Probably right about the time the Blu-ray box-sets come out. :)

The SE's were available individually on the same day as the box sets were released.

The first wave was released on Oct. 19, 1999 and the individual DVDs of the movies in that set were also available that day.

I remember standing in SUNCOAST trying to figure out if it was more economical for me to buy the individual discs or the box set given that what was retagged as the SE of Tomorrow Never Dies had been available on DVD for oabout a year already at that point.

Yeah, I saw it too. Nothing spectacular. I technically have it on Tivo, but I don't think it's worth the trouble of making it playable on the net for you guys.

As for Blu-Ray or HD I hope there is a combo player so it won't matter. I wonder why we don't get the cool attache case in the US like you do in the UK? Drat!

If they were going to split it up, why not let us mix and match or go by the actors (Sean, Tim and so on) or eras (i.e. the '60's)?

Hi, can anyone help me with the following?

I received my brand new Ultimate collection in the post yesterday from ChoicesUK who had it at a decent price. I'm slightly confused as when I start most of the dvds I seem to get Dutch subtitles coming on by default. I have also noticed that on Dr No there are Dutch film classification and piracy warning screens prior to the film as well as UK ones (but not on the other films). I've checked my dvd player's default subtitle settings and it is set to 'automatic' but I don't undertsand why it keeps selecting Dutch subtitles.

I had serious doubts yesterday that this was a UK Ultimate collection but everything else seems to suggest that it is (all text on the cases etc is in English, menus are English, UK film classifications on everything).

Can anyone confirm whether there Ultimate dvds default to Dutch subtitles? Or can anyone with Dr No confirm whether they get Dutch film classification/piracy warning screens when the film starts? It would really help to put my mind at rest. Thanks.

Just noticed that the Octopussy DVD has footage from James Brolin's Bond screentest. This should be interesting. Has anyone seen it? What were your impressions of Brolin?

So here's the solution I came up with to display my out of order, slim case Bonds starting Tuesday.

A $7.99 stand from Target. In the picture you'll see 18 slim cases I had from my "Millennium" TV sets. After the 20 Bond slim cases go in there (in proper order) that will leave room for 5 more movies, be they slim case, regular case, Blu-ray, holographic crystal, or whatever else they come up with by then. It's only 12 inces high if you're wondering...

Is that heavy plastic/glass on the sides that would allow this to also be turned so the movies could stand on end?
