We're a couple of weeks away from the UK release and STILL no word on a US date?!?! :D

No official word yet. "Around" the release of Casino Royale seems to be the best judgement at this point.

HERE'S a page with TONS of new info on the Ultimate Editions (including new screenshots). These might very well turn out to be good but for me it's not looking like such a black and white decision as to which version, the new or old, will be the best.

There's also been a lot of talk on DVD forums that when Lowery worked on them, they went a little too far in cleaning the image up that they ended up softening the image and color too much. I have to say that from what I've seen I agree. Chalk me up to being a little dissapointed with what I've seen so far and I'm now going to have to decide if I do want to get these after all or wait for the eventual HD release (whereas before it was a no-brainer I was going to get them).

I think the new transfers look wonderful. I'll definatly be getting them, but not all at once. I'll get licence to kill first, because im interested in seeing the uncut version. I'll just get the others in any order.

The new transferts basically sucks big [censored]. it's a disaster. A clean image doesn't mean a right image. This is bad and the DVDforum talks are right. Oh, and the uncut end of FRWL was available on french video rental copies back in the early eighties.I'm bummed

I hope so too. And I really hope the US will finally get one massive boxed set - but it just doesn't seem likely now.

I was hoping that the North American release would include the attache case, but as Qwerty said, it unfortunately doesn't seem likely.

It wouldn't suprise me if these two sets are, in fact, all there is. There might be 10 films per box (the photos for which could be on the other side that we can't see) and the size would be right for either thin cases or a fold out digipack. Selling two sets would be a lot better from a retail perspective than selling four.

Yes, that was announced some time ago.

Sony lost the distribution rights for MGM DVDs...there were a number of media outlets that reported it at the time and CBn had it as a Quick News link.

DLibra,

I mentioned the Fox thing because in another thread there's a lot of talk about how MGM Home Video is screwing up these releases, as well as a link in Zencat's post to MGM's site for CBNers to send complaints, so unless I'm REALLY confused about who is responsible for these releases (which is entirely possible) I think a lot of negative comments are being made about the wrong company.

Well I am frankly surprised that some people seem not to be aware that Fox won the distribution rights for these DVDs since it was reported sometime ago.
