rather than the "whoever we saw on British television last night" blight that affected the Brosnans.

I guess we'll still get our Michael Kitchens, Geoffrey Palmers, Colin Salmons, Julian Fellowes's and Terence Rigbys when they get down to casting the new MI6 staff for CR.

With all the positives going on, it would seem still more strange that they are sticking with Dench as M.

Nothing against her personally, never really sure of her as M during Brosnan's tenure, still more looped that she is being retained.

Oh well.

What a beautiful lady, and one with classic "Bond girl" looks too. I have a really good vibe about "Casinno Royale"

Haven't seen enough of her acting but I do like her look.

She looks great, dare I say even better choice than Charlize Theron. Lets hope she would keep the same appearance (long hair etc) for the film and not short cropped like Halle Berry did for DAD (horrible horrible hair style).

Can anyone link me to the original article at the Daily Mail. I never had a chance to read it and I think it is odd that it is unavailable as of this writing. At least I cannot find it at their website.

It bothers me also that Dench is still in the cast as I'd like a clean break from the Brozza period. Then I got to thinking, perhaps she's not going to play 'M' in CR, but Bond's housekeeper May, instead! :D Well, I can only hope.

Seriously though, excellent choice in choosing Rose Byrne for the part of Vesper. :D Gorgeous and with just the right touch of vulnerability. Reminds me of Diana Rigg as Tracey, a bit.

So far EON and Co., have made some good choices in cast selection and not gone for casting high profile actors for the supporting roles. I welcome that as it allows the actors to become the characters in our minds and make the part 'their own'.

I'm glad you posted a pic of that. I've been meaning to ask - does anyone know what those kind of sandals Rose Byrne is wearing are called? Is there a specific name (ie the ones with the straps wrapping around her legs)?

I think this Rose report is true and she will be fine. A little young but she's probably the right mix of looks, acting skill and vulnerability needed for Vesper. What I find ironic is that I picked her TROY co-star Diane Kruger for the part when I did my CASINO ROYALE casting column last April:

She reminds me a little of Natascha McElhone who appeared in 2002 Solaris and Ronin. But isn't it getting a we bit icky with these very young women being paired with the 40 year old Craig?

Very pretty.

With this and the other casting information to date, seems to be a return to the "fairly obscure character actor" (halcyon) days of Adolfo Celi rather than the "whoever we saw on British television last night" blight that affected the Brosnans.

Do you not think that they might have watched Casanova in the hope of finding a pretty girl? :D

If they watched Casanova, one would hope they would also find a part for the wonderful David Tennant, too...

Craig onscreen comes across as younger than his age, IMO, I was surprised he was as old as he is after watching LAYER CAKE, he came off as early 30s in that film, easy.

And beside the pairing of Ms Pike with Grandpa Bond Brosnan in DAD, Byrne and Craig seem like equal (and age-appropriate, how refreshing!) casting.

She's a very pretty girl!

It amuses me that, once she's confirmed, the press will pump out the usual story, dragging out the famous Ursula Andress-in-a-bikini picture and making comparisons, but this time, Rose Byrne is playing a role originally played by . . . Ursula Andress!

Agreed. If Pike and Brosnan could come across as being appropriate together from an age standpoint, then certainly Rose Byrne and Daniel Craig will be able to bridge that gap as well.

If Rose is already cast why are we seeing another report that it is Thandie Newton? Who would be a better Vesper?

Is the "supposed" press conference on friday to just present Miss Rose Byrne as Vesper? or is it, the official press conference for the movie, with the presence of the cast, producers, the aston martin, the movie presentation, locations revealed, and all that, is it?

or perhaps, there is no press conference on friday?!

The confirmation will probably just be a press 'release' via the official site - moderately positive there won't be any need for a conference.

I feel there maybe a conference on the first day of filming to present the main cast and crew - there was such a beast for GE and DAD.

I think it's more likely to be a proper press conference to announce the cast.

Remember, apart from one week, they're not making this one in the UK. So unless they're going to ship the distinguished representatives of the world press out to some unknown location for a press conference, they're going to have to hold it before they head off to wherever they're going to start filming.

Well I will be disapointed if she gets's it. I was so rooting for Angelina Jolie! Ah well! Looks like I will have to get used to disapointment! Just kidding! She looks great! I liked her in Troy and the fact that she's an Aussie.

Not necessarily.

I remember photo calls/press conferences for commencing of filming on location for Octopussy in India, View to a Kill in Paris at the Chateau, Living Daylights in Vienna.

I remember this too.

And apparently, according to Virgin radio, Daniel Craig leaves the UK for Prague on Friday.

So, I would hazard a guess that we will get a big press conference with all the prominent members of the cast in Prague just before filming starts. Some time next week, probably.

Perhaps they will hold the press conference right before Craig departs.
