Is it all speculation that Byrne as Vesper is all but confirmed? Or are we more-or-less 99% sure? Is there the same degree of certainty as, say, Daniel Craig before his official announcement? If not, where does Thandie Newton fit into this? I hope Newton doesn't get the part. I can't see that she would be more suitable than Byrne at all.

And if it is Byrne, I'd be glad, because she isn't a big name like Angelina Jolie (whom I would've hated in the role). This film doesn't need someone to overshadow Bond. He needs to be the star. Besides, we want to see a fresher face, and Rose Byrne isn't overly ubiquitous.

It's just speculation based on that Mail on Sunday report, as far as I know.

It does seem to have more of an air of authenticity about it than a lot of the other reports, though.

Then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking?

I don't expect a press conference this week. For me, it's more likely that there will be an official announcement from Eon on Friday regards who will portray Vesper Lynd. A more likely date and location for the press conference would be Friday 27th in Prague, which would leave plenty of time for Rose Byrne to fly around and be at the press conference......provided she has a reason to be there.

Just an excuse to show that pic again. You know, she was in Episode 2, and that scene after Anakin kills those things and races off, RB runs in and gets in bed w/ Natalie Portman, and asks if she is alright? I swear I could not get up from my seat for like ten minutes aftrwards. That scene(you all know what i was imagining right?) was only in my head, but man it ROCKED!

Oh yeah, she is the right choice for Vesper.

Whatever. Craig is the best bit of casting they could have done thus far, and I safely say that having seen his work in MUNICH (which convinced me 100% that this man should be Bond, and that he's easily the outright coolest person to have played the role since Connery).

And I never once thought his height ever interfered with his awesome coolness level in MUNICH.

OK 5'-8". Happy now?

5'9" at the least, and he seemed considerably taller than that because when he stood against the 6'3" Eric Bana, he didn't seem much shorter than that.

Watched Wicker Park last night and I think Byrne is an amazing actress. If she indeed gets the part, she will probably be the best actress to ever make a Bond film. With her and Daniel Craig, this movie already has a pedigree that sets it apart from all other Bonds. This could be a very intresting movie indeed.

I would have liked the idea of having Rigg's heir in the picture just for fun's sake, but this one's got it no doubt.

Watched a short clip of Byrne in Wicker Park. If there was ever an audition for Vesper, it would seem her character in that movie was it. She managed to display the vulnerability and the neuroses that Vesper possesses. I don't think we can go wrong with an actress that has both beauty and talent. Paired with Craig, I think the chances of the Bond-Vesper relationship (the so-called key to the movie) coming off as convincing just increased strongly.

Rose Byrne is about the best candidate out there for the role, and none of the other names that have been mentioned by the newspapers in the past couple of weeks even come close to being as good of an option as her.

I wasn't too thrilled based on Rose's photos... but after seeing <i>Wicker Park</i> I'm definitely excited about the possibility of her playing Vesper. <i>Wicker Park</i> was such a dud until she showed up... she's a very interesting actress who really was able to work her lines... everything she said had a deeper meaning. She has a very interesting on-screen face too... love it.

I agree that they'll have a presser in Prague, or the Bahamas, when they start filming, and all key members of the cast will be on hand. Still, if they're shooting other stuff starting on 30 January, Rose won't necessarily be there if she's not in the scenes being shot early on. Could be they won't shoot any 'Vesper' scenes for a week or two...possibly more.

Right. I seem to remember that there was a big press conference in Vienna when Dalton was seen with his co-stars as they started filming and then when Pierce Brosnan got the role they had another press conference at the start of shooting in which photo's were taken with Brosnan and his co-stars.

In both those instances there had been the big unveiling of the new Bond actor press conferences earlier, but no big, big press conferences for the announcements of the supporting actors.
