This thread is like listening in on a conversation between Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.  I guess it all boils down to looks.  It also helps explain the popularity (notoriety rather) of Paris Hilton.

View Post

I'm Paris -- she's Nicole! :)

In all seriousness: yes, in the case of James Bond, a large part of it is looks -- and personality, and charisma, and presence, and style. All of which characteristics, I, with all due respect, do not think Daniel Craig possesses. Understand, I do not wish, by any means to denigrate either the man or his acting abilities; I just find him to be totally unsuited to the role of Commander Bond.

And -- just to prove that this is an interesting thread, let me cite you the following statistics:

Pro-Craig Thread: 3 pages -- 85 posts -- 1,409 views

ANTI-Craig Thread:6 pages -- 151 posts -- 2,705 views

(Above data as at 9:05 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time)

Attention EON Productions and Sony.

Are you paying attention to the fans? And do you care what we think?

Because clearly most of the James Bond fans do not want Daniel Craig!

And we do want Pierce Brosnan!

View Post

No they're not paying attention. If CR bombs at the box office, then they might. I doubt it will do a fourth of Die Another Day's business.

I agree. :)

Hey Eye, I think you are as big a Brosnan fan as I am from reading your posts...

do you think that after Craig flops in CR, Brosnan would be too old to come back again? Maybe for 2 more?

It may be pushing the age thing by that point...what do you think?

As we all know LTK did not do very well at the box-office when it was out.
Personally I do love LTK, but it's main problem is that it didn't feel very much like a Bond film when compared with the others.
LTK seemed more like Lethal Weapon, Rambo or even the TV show Miami Vice.

If Daniel Craig is the new James Bond, then I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to say that Casino Royale was a good movie, just not a good Bond movie.

It will likely be a movie that most people will say "yeah, it's entertaining" but it's not a very good Bond film though.

There is no shortage of entertaining movies out there for us to all watch.
But there is only one James Bond!
And that is what we want, a James Bond film!
And Daniel Craig is NOT the man to give us a James Bond film!

If Pierce Brosnan is really not going to be James Bond in Bond-21 AKA Casino Royale, then very sadly I do not think we will ever see him as James Bond again. :)
Let's say that Daniel Craig is Bond in Casino Royale, and the film bombs (which it will with Craig) then if they were to bring Pierce back immediately to start filming Bond-22 I think it could work.
But if they Don't have Brosnan in CR and then they still wait 3 or 4 years to make Bond-22, then I would not see much sense to bring Pierce back for one more when he's in his late 50's or so.

What I would love to see is Brosnan in Casino Royale, and then within 2 years of it's release they release Bond-22 also with Pierce Brosnan!

But I will settle for at least having Pierce Brosnan in one last Bond film with Casino Royale!

And then hopefully we will get to see Pierce in a Bond rip-off film. :)

How great would it be to see Pierce Brosnan and QT team-up to make a Bond rip-off film, and see it do better at the box-office than Casino Royale does with Daniel Craig? :) :)

We wouldn't mind a new way at all but with the right actor protraying James Bond. I have a feeling that Casino Royale will be similar to the Bourne films so much it'll be ripping them off.

It's obvious that Wilson and Babs saw the Bourne movies and are now trying to clone that into Bond, when Bond was there first all along. Truth to tell if that's what Casino Royal e is going to be...then I'll gladly pass.

This franchise had so much going for them. Until Purvis and Wade. Now we're getting an older Matt Damon rip-off who just hapens to have a english accent in a role that's not suited for him.

Why the pro people cannot see this is beyons me. Very few people want Craig to be Bond, when I mentioned Ye reap what ye sow I meant it. He's thier Bond and I only wish they could do with the consequences.

After Craig ruins this movie are the higher ups going to need a reboot from the reboot.

I'm glad you've got a sense of humor.  :)  After I posted that it occurred to me that one of the young ladies posting might think I was referring specifically to them and be offended (not that Paris & Nicole aren't very nice, intelligent young ladies in their own right), but it was more of a comment on how the most important thing that bothers detractors of Craig is the way he looks.  It doesn't seem to have much to do with his acting ability or anything like that.  Basically, Craig is the opposite of Brosnan, the Anti-Pierce if you will.  Now, to me that is a good thing, and I just see this as a return to a cooler, more substantial Bond film.  Yes, style is also a part of the series, but I think Craig has that too.  People can have style and class in many different ways.  Craig is different from what we are used to, but is it really the end of the world to try a new way for a while and give that a chance too.

By all means, vent, but come on back and give the new guy a look see when he is finally in action.  I don't know that you'll change your mind, but you never know.

Paris speaking.

BIG sense of humour, MarJil -- Darling! :)

Don't worry about it -- absolutely NO OFFENCE TAKEN! :) Kiss-Kiss!

Nicole and I are just here to offer the Female point of view! :) :)

Regarding Craig's acting ability: no, you are wrong, I have actually seen him in the movie "SYLVIA", and he was excellent. (I posted this comment earlier this evening in some other topic; let me post this, and edit it later, and let you know which topic) and I said:

No reflection whatsoever on Craig's talents or abilities . . . BUT HE IS JUST NOT JAMES BOND!!!!!

As you said, "people have style and class in many different ways."

Without a doubt, your statement is correct -- furthermore, it is unassailable -- but this guy JUST DOESN'T HAVE IT!!!!

Look . . . Daniel Craig may well be the best actor living on the face of the planet!

So was Sir Alec Guinness, in his day!

But . . . . Sir Alec as JAMES BOND???

As my friend Paris Hilton, herself, would say: Oh, My GAWD!!!!

(More later)

I'm rooting for Craig and i hope he makes a great Bond in a great series of films, but if CR tanks (let's be honest, there's every chance it will) and they have the gaul to go back and ask Brosnan to bail them out, he should tell them to piss right off. E*N have taken a massive gamble with the series by appointing Craig. If that gamble doesn't pay off, they will deserve evrything they get.

and he must be goodlooking. lol :)
or else, I go see whatever other action movie, where Daniel Craig is more than welcome to be the star. But not Bond.
Bond's my little girl fantasy of prince charming. LOL (so ok that's sick, a prince charming that has three thousand fiancees.. but a little girl doesn't see all that!!). And I want prince charming, not blue collar guy next door! lol :)

I agree with you, Alessandra. I've been watching Bond since I was a little girl, and I've always counted on him to be someone I'd admire and dribble over. :) If they announce Craig tomorrow, I'll be extremely disappointed, especially after all this time of hoping someone young and dashing would take over the part. I think I would get nauseous watching Casino Royale with him on the gigantic screen, so I may end up waiting for the DVD, after it's gone down in price or ends up in the clearance bin at Wal-Mart. :)

[/QUOTE]

LMAO!! :) :) I TOO will definitely wait for the DVD... I cannot believe we'll have to get Vladimir Putin (my mother, not recognizing the pic she was horrified at yesterday when I showed it to her, thought it was the pic of Putin when she saw him on the newspaper!) for BOND!!
well see Xenia (my favourite bad girl as per my profile), there are some guys here who think that since we are trying to have our dreams and a classy Bond as always we deserve the same consideration as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. (not that this is an offense.. just from the way Marjil says it, defining Paris "notorious" doesn't seems like he considers it a compliment).
I leave comments up to you, and will reply appropriately to the guy in a minute. Wendy's already taken care of it..
But let's say it...YES WE STAND BY OUR REQUIREMENT OF A CLASSY, PRINCE CHARMING BOND AS HE AS ALWAYS BEEN, AND NO WE DON'T WANT A GUY NEXT DOOR TO BE BOND, WE JUST NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR OF OUR HOUSE TO GET THAT!! AND NOT TO PAY AT THE MOVIES TO SEE A RUGGED, UGLY GUY!! NOW IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS, PLEASE GO BACK TO YOUR CHILDHOOD AND LEARN THE MEANING OF PRINCE CHARMING AGAIN!

I just can't get how they think to have a younger Bond and take a guy who not only is 37, but looks ten years older than his actual age!!!
well.. since they're not even planning to give him a dye job from what Craig said at the press conference, I guess the fact he's 37 is just marginal, we'll have a blond ugly Bond instead of a young dark haired handsome Bond as we were entitled to have.
oh yea, DEFINITELY switching to Harry Potter. lol :)

Actually, I REALLY noticed that, and so did my wife. I'm 8 days younger than Craig, and my wife is 3 days older than him.

When I showed his pictures (including the BEST pictures I could find) to her she absolutely could not believe that he was the same age as us. She was sure he was at least 5-6 years older, and maybe as much as 10-12 years older.

So much for him playing a 28-30 year old Bond. 35 maybe, but not 28-30. If they try to pass him off as 30 it will look like the 58 year old Roger Moore trying to pass for 40. It won't work.
