There's so much negativity on CBn these days.

The choice of the actor is such a minor thing. I mean a great actor (Sean Connery) cannot save a lousy film with a lousy script (Diamonds Are Forever), but a subpar actor (George Lazenby) can be in a far superior Bond movie.

You guys are acting like there has never been a change in actor before. Really I question your credentials as "Bond fans" if you are not even willing to give the new guy a chance. I've liked Bond movies by all the previous actors and (with the exception of Lazenby) been less crazy about other movies from all the previous actors.

Sure, if after you have seen Casino Royale and you didn't like it, then you can b*tch about it. But the film hasn't even been shot yet but somehow it appears people in this thread have already seen it -- pretty impressive feat I must say -- you should play the stock market with premonition qualities like that.

But this is what i'm saying. There aren't any similar posts in the pro-craig brigade thread saying "you haven't seen the film yet - wait until it's finished to praise him or be overjoyed." So why post them here? Especially if this is the thread specifically reserved for anti-craig posters? Why not let them post unashamedly without the need to debate? If you're pro-craig, or at least partial to him, why not go there?

Otherwise the pro-craig thread is allowed to praise the casting decision, but the anti-craig thread is where even the slightly pro-craig try to convince the anti-craig brigade they are wrong? That doesn't seem fair.

View Post

quite a good point actually.
I am not watering my posts though. I say what I think and always have. But it seems fair that those pro or slightly pro Craig post their thoughts on the other thread.. otherwise it doesn't make sense to have a pro and an anti.
This said, I find this thread simply amusing. I am not here to try and insult anyone for their acting job. Just to express my opinion on a choice, that of Daniel Craig, which I don't find right.
He's ugly ok?? ugly! I do NOT want an ugly Bond! I don't care how good an actor he is, Bond is not Shakespeare, it's just Bond!
and he must be goodlooking. lol :)
or else, I go see whatever other action movie, where Daniel Craig is more than welcome to be the star. But not Bond.
Bond's my little girl fantasy of prince charming. LOL (so ok that's sick, a prince charming that has three thousand fiancees.. but a little girl doesn't see all that!!). And I want prince charming, not blue collar guy next door! lol :)
I want Hugh Jackman for Bond! or if not him, Cavill will do, at least he's pleasant to look at!
the fairy tale will end tomorrow at the announcement "so here.. what do you think, that prince charming exists??"
"well YES, at least in movies!!"

I agree with you, Alessandra. I've been watching Bond since I was a little girl, and I've always counted on him to be someone I'd admire and dribble over. :) If they announce Craig tomorrow, I'll be extremely disappointed, especially after all this time of hoping someone young and dashing would take over the part. I think I would get nauseous watching Casino Royale with him on the gigantic screen, so I may end up waiting for the DVD, after it's gone down in price or ends up in the clearance bin at Wal-Mart. :)

One question. Well, actually 2. Would you girls want Bond to slap some women's bottoms again as a fingers up to the overly PC age? And more to the point, if you do, do you really want Daniel Craig slapping some women's bottoms? Are you more likely to file a sexual harrassment claim than if it were one of the other Bonds? How would you react to a Craig bottom slap?

You don't get it, Righty007. Today, Bond is still Pierce. So, it is not 007 we are mocking. Tomorrow, as I posted in the pro-Craig thread, self-suggestion will start. It did work with some of the pro-craig posters, it may work with me as well (although I doubt it).

Anyway, it's fun!

Well, that's what you get for entering the Anti-Craig Brigade thread.

Name me a single Bond actor (apart from Connery) whom some Bond fans aren't sometimes negative towards.

For me, the most sensible path on Craig seems to be the middle way. I'm not going to blindly accept him as the best thing since sliced bread just because he's (apparently) Eon's choice, and neither am I going to just roast the man alive for being - how to put it? - "a bit different" to the other Bonds.

I think Craig seems an excellent choice for Bond in certain respects, and a - to put it mildly - highly questionable choice in others. I've tried to explain my conflicting views on him in some detail, and not just "HE RULES!" or "HE SUCKS!".

I welcome all views on Craig, positive and negative, but I don't really see why people seem on the whole to be rushing to establish rock-solid stances, identifying themselves as "pro" or "anti" Craig. A bit early to tell for sure, no? Heck, I don't think we'll really be able to evaluate him until.... oh, well, not until his second Bond flick is out on DVD, probably.

1. Since the storyline is going backwards, and Vesper is....darn I lost my train of thought. Whips and chairs and leather? Please? Hahaha. Oh, wait. Daniel Craggy slapping bottoms. Eewww, I just threw up. Yes, if the ladies are going to see some bottom slapping, it better be a gorgeous guy doing it - that's the only way he'll be forgiven. Or reciprocated.

2. No sexual harassment thoughts when concerning Bond. We ladies of the 21st century know that Bond is doing it for kicks, since he adores the ladies. Besides, I believe Vesper will put him in his rightful place. But Daniel Craggy? Eeewwww, again.

...You use the same rationale as a drug pusher. Hey that drug really _isn't_ bad, and the only way you will find out is if you try it. I don't need to see a "reinvented Bond" that looks like Daniel Craig. I am sorry. I am familair with his work, his looks are all wrong for Bond, and if they have retooled for him, I would have no interest in the new Bond.

Also, Sean Connery was the only reason anyone went to see DAF. No one cared about the story. And even the best supporting cast, story, and production values couldn't save OHMSS. However, compared to Craig, George Lazenby is the Second Coming of Christ.

Get this. We are not initiating negativity, but rather reacting to choices made by others that inspire negativity. If a turn-off Bond splits the fan base, it won't be our fault.

now, James Bond oozes class and elegance. And Craig just doesn't have it, that's all. Zero class, zero elegance. Not to mention the fact he's not good looking. He may be a terrific actor but he just doesn't have the right features for Bond. Dyed hair, Brioni clothes or not.
You are of course more than entitled to adore him and to just not care about Bond's elegance and class. I am just explaining what most of us think. :)

View Post

I was just reading backwards (I always read backwards) and I discovered this post.

Between you and I, Alessandra, I don't think Craig embodies the image of "Roman Style", which Brioni wishes to project. I think they'll cancel their product endorsement.

In which case, The Gap might wish to consider an arrangement to dress the new Bond . . .

This thread is like listening in on a conversation between Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. I guess it all boils down to looks. It also helps explain the popularity (notoriety rather) of Paris Hilton.
