I'd love to read your review of BB if you wrote one here 3 years ago?

I don't remember if I did (and so many of my posts have mentioned BEGINS, it would take an eternity to find). At any rate, my views on BEGINS have shifted since summer 2005. I suppose I could write a new review as we stand before THE DARK KNIGHT.

hahaha, excellent, but QOS is in trouble.

Nonsense.

ComingSoon.net has posted an updated gallery from Warner Brothers for the film (although looking through it, I'm not sure if there's anything new or not). The article also talks about the huge pre-sale ticket sales for the film.

The exact wording of the tribute at the end credits has been revealed:

"In memory of our friends Heath Ledger & Comway Wickliffe."

Here is the AP's non-spoiler review of the film, dealing mostly with Heath Ledger's performance.

'Dark Knight' more than 2.5 hours long

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight has a running time of more than two and a half hours.

According to the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), the Batman Begins sequel is 152 minutes long.

The BBFC has granted the movie a 12A certificate.

The film is the longest in the superhero franchise, with its predecessor carrying a running time of 140 minutes.

Recent lengthy summer blockbusters include Spider-Man 3 (139 minutes), Transformers (144 minutes) and Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End (168 minutes)

The Dark Knight is released in the UK on July 25.

All good stuff there, though I don't exactly trust most of those reviewers. But the word is good so far, and all point to an ambitious, thrilling crime epic.

Great clips (it might be easier to access them from this page, though).

Ledger's performance looks better and better. He's downright chilling in the "better class of criminal" clip.

Saw the film on the big IMAX screen in Amsterdam last Wednesday (part of CinemaExpo programme)and it totally rocks! Ledger's performance is Oscar worthy.

Sounds good, J. J.

This film has been getting almost unanimously postive reviews, and pretty much every one of them has stated it's a marked improvement on its predecessor. Even Devin of CHUD, who's been absurdly negative about BEGINS and everything regarding THE DARK KNIGHT, ended up liking the flick.

And given the advance ticket sales (Fandango is saying it has already sold eight times as many tickets as SPIDERMAN 3 did for its pre-sold opening weekend tickets) it looks like THE DARK KNIGHT is going to be the hit of the summer (and probably of all 2008). Good thing is that it looks like it deserves to be.

Is Oldman using a different voice for Gordon? He sounds like a New Yorker or something in Clip 4.

I can only get the Bale interview to work the clips and the other interviews never come on, anyone else having this problem?

BOF webmaster 'Jett' has seen TDK. On his forums, he added:

Greatest film I've seen in my life....
It literally blew me away. I sat in stunned silence during the entire credits.
To call this a "comic book movie" so off the mark, I can't put it into words.
As a Batman fan, this movie moved me in a way that's indescribable.

I was able to watch the Michael Caine & Morgan Freeman clips.

Saw the third trailer here. I didn't see a link to it so sorry if its a duplicate.

Erm, why?

Because it's dismissive. Many reviews have pointed to THE DARK KNIGHT being a good film in its own right, not just a good comic book flick. That said, as with any hyped movie, beware the hyperbole.

It's only dismissive if you believe the term "comic book movie" covers only a very shallow spectrum. This film is based on one of the most famous comic book characters, ergo it is certainly a comic book movie. It seems like a strange comment from someone who defines himself as "a Batman fan" in the next sentence.

Brilliant review. TDK must be something special.

Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's leitmotif for The Joker sounds like a cross between Ligeti's "Lux Aeterna" (from 2001) and the scraping, metallic curlicue that was used in trailers for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and enhances the clenched-fist feeling that anything can and will happen at any moment, even scenes in which he doesn't appear.

Thank goodness.

Everything sounds good.

It's been interesting in the wake of these reviews to hear some of the plot elements. THE DARK KNIGHT certainly has its surprises, and doesn't pull any punches. And given where how this film concludes... well, the third film in this series is going to shape up differently than most of us were expecting.
