You're dead right on both counts! It is quite unbeliveable that Sam Raimi would get the director job but I think Campbell could be a perfect Felix.

John Cusack! Yes he's young, but I think he'd make a great Felix, plus he'd bring his own fanbase to the movie

What do you think? And who would your pick be?

Owen Wilson- but only on the provision that he brings some of the dramatic weight of his character in The Life Acquatic to Leiter and doesn't play his usual stoner goofball. He's got blonde hair, he's from Texas, he can act his
off when he wants to, can do action, and has that sort of light-hearted charm that Leiter does.
I never would have thought of him, but after reading your post he does seem like a good choice. I really hope they get someone good to play him

Still, I'm going to keep pushing Cusack, he's shown in the past he's more than capable of pulling off a serious role, and he can do action just as good as any moder action hero (if the role were to call for action). Plus he's as american as they come

Owen Wilson pure comedy. There's no way I can take him serious as Leiter. If Felix is going to be in Casino Royale, he should be more like the Jack Lord Feilex. Tough and very american.
Jack Lord was great in Dr. No, but he was really nothing like Fleming's Leiter. Fleming's Leiter is a blonde-haired Texan with boyish good looks who doesn't seem to take life very seriously, even after the Robber feeds him to a shark (if you disagree, I have one word for you: Studillac). Wilson does tend to squander his talent, but it's there: he was charming and sweet in Bottle Rocket, a decent light-hearted straightforward action hero in Shanghai Noon (I didn't bother with the sequel, so I don't know how he fared in that), and a tragic figure in The Life Aquatic. The Owen Wilson of the Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson team responsible for such cinematic crimes as Zoolander and Starsky and Hutch is all wrong for Felix Leiter, but the Owen Wilson of the Owen Wilson/Wes Anderson team could work out pretty darn well as Felix Leiter.

I think Mr. Bruce Greenwood would be the obvious choice for the part of Felix Leiter.
What do you think?

All this news about Owen Wilson inspired me to think of his popular brother, actor Luke Wilson, who was in Old School, Home Fries and most popularly Blue Streak as he assisted Martin Lawrence in this Cop-action film. Luke Wilson is the milder Owen Wilson in terms of humour but can certainley generate laughs. He doesn't stir huge in publicity and isn't well-known as Owen. Luke Wilson would be a smarter decision, beleive check out the below photo.

As Bond_Bishop said Bruce Campbell would also be good

That's an extremely good idea, he really fits the Fleming mold.
As for John Cusack, he's one of my favorite actors but he doesn't strike me as Leiter.

Bruce Campbell would be a great choice as well. I'd love to see that.
Of course, they could just cast me in the part. I've wanted to play Felix Leiter for 20 years, and now I'm finally old enough. Of course, no agent, no experience, no chance. But, oddly, Felix Leiter was always a character I would have loved to play if I got into acting.
But for the real possibilities I think Cusack & Campbell would both work - and if he was 10-15 years younger I'd also say Ray Liotta could be interesting as Leiter. Not the Leiter of the novel, per se, but like Jack Lord he could make it his own. If Brosnan were doing CR I'd say Liotta would be very good casting (the right age to be a friend of Bond's), but since he's not then Liotta's definitely out.
I'll have to think about this some more to come up with some other ideas - but they've GOT to include Leiter in the movie.

Especially with a new 007 actor, expect Felix to be largely unknown.

You're forgetting one important thing. The thinking at EON has always been (except with Licence To Kill) to put a largely unknown actor into the part of Felix Leiter - so he doesn't upstage 007.
Especially with a new 007 actor, expect Felix to be largely unknown.
You are probably right - but sometimes it's just fun to consider the possibilities.

John Cusak just doesn't look tough. I want Felix to look he'll kick your
. I don't want a pansy Felix like we've had since Goldfinger. Atleast Jack Wade had balls.
Cusack can be pretty tough though - case in point is his performance in Runaway Jury. He could be an interesting choice.
