Simon LeBon from Duran Duran absolutely must be Le Chiffre! Come on, he's SO got the style of a guy named "Le Chiffre".

View Post

Are you basing it mostly on the name Le Chiffre or what the character from the novel is like?

Yah! I enjoyed him in Die Hard. He'd be a solid villain.

He'd be fine. I liked his restrained menace in the opening scenes of Die Hard.

The name... but now that I looked at Agent76's picture, I think Simon LeBon's image could also pull it off. It would be interesting to see him as an actor.

Interesting way to look at it, not as common.

West Wing's Richard Schiff. I reckon he could pull off the mix of cerebral and menacing a classic Bond villain needs.

I think Daniel Auteuil would be a very good Le Chiffre. He has a nice psychotic quality.

Jean Reano, Giancarlo Giannini, Ray Liotta, Sir Anthony Hopkins or Gary Oldman.

There should be no debate about this. Alan Rickman IS Le Chiffre.

I sure hope not. They should at least cast a French actor.

I can see where you're coming from, but I just can't help but think that Rickman has it to play the part so well, and he is probably the best actor to have never played a Bond villain too.

Alan Rickman would be great for Le Chiffre. He would be menacing and could do wonders during this torture scene. I don't remember off the top of my head, but was Le Chiffre actually French? Its been so long since I have read CR I don't really remember. A good French actor for the role would be Tcheky Karyo (Dmitri Mishkin from GE). His role in Jet Li's Kiss of the Dragon as a corrupt French cop was excellent. I think Jean Reno should be used as Mathis.

Hawkeye, you're right. LeChiffre wasn't French. He was from Poland or Hungary or someplace in Eastern Europe, and had come over as a refugee after WWII. Then he became naturalized as a French citizen. At least that's my recollection. I need to read the book again.

Sir Anthony Hopkins

While he often seems to be a favorite for a Bond villain role, I don't see him as being a great Le Chiffre based on how I see the character from the novel.

I always thought Alan Rickman would make a very good Bond villian. Ben Kingsley would be my first choice however. Hopkins is too old.

I have to agree: Ben Kingsley. We don't need someone who is physically threatening (that's what henchmen and -women are for), but someone who seems like he could outsmart Bond and, rather than seeming OTT insane or meglo-maniacal, instead appears to have a complete and total lakc of concern for human life. Ben Kingsley would be excellent!

I've already suggested that Daniel Benzali (A View To A Kill & "The Agency" TV series) should be the next cinematic Blofeld in the related thread (I'm not holding my breath though), but he certainly could be an excellent Le Chiffre.

I never thought of Daniel Benzali in that way, but yes he does look like Blofeld. However, I think that character is dead forever as he was killed off in FYEO and is at the heart of the Austin Powers flicks in Dr Evil. I don't think EON wants to give Mike Myers any more material.

Of course, they could always resurrect the literary Blofeld: a massive Polish thug with close-cropped black hair and a syphilitic nose.

My picks:
1. Sean Penn (Longshot)
2. Joaquin Phoenix
3. Alan Rickman
4. Sean Connery (Ironic, but think about it)

Do you think they will Pussfeller? It just seems that after all this time, it won't happen. Would it be a good thing even if they did eventually bring him back?

Well, no, of course not. I wasn't actually suggesting it. It just seems that everyone forgets about the original Blofeld at times like these. I find the literary Ernst far more intimidating than the little Elmer Fudd movie version.

Actually, I suppose it's conceivable that the literary Blofeld could have some screen time. P&W might eventually create an unofficial rip-off version, as they did with Hugo Drax in DAD.

I think Tony Shalhoub would make a good villain.
