Now that Casino Royale is the title my guess is that well known thesp/film actors may want to be involved. My bets are on actors such as
Ian McKellen
Anthony Hopkins (Campbell may have some words with him )
Derek Jacobi
Patrick Stewart
Christopher Lee ( i think he is up for it still)
Brian Blessed
Alan Rickman
and the real long shot.................Sean Connery :)

What about the French actor Patrick Timsit? Although he seemes to be a comic actor, I think he looks like Le Chiffre from the novel.

VINCENT CASSELS

This guy French, eh? Definelty good opposition for Bond. You may have seen this chap in Ocean's Twelve, as the ahhh French Guy. He has a good physical durability and decent acting. Great french accent. Also I would like to share the thought of mine when watching this guy I was considering him as a Bond candidate (must have been the flourine in my water). Anyways here some pics which can viewed.

Remember, the first Le Chiffre was played by Peter Lorre, later by Orson Wells. Kevin Spacey could bring a edge to the role.

I would like to se Anthony Hopkins, Ciaran Hinds from (Tomb Raider 2) or maybe Robert De Niroas as Le Chiffre. I do not want Bond to meat a young villain. Instead I would like him to have some age witch I think would bring more character in to the role.
I would also like Catherine Zeta Jones to be his female assassin.

Ciaran Hinds

Remembering that in his native Germany Gert Frobe was a comedic character actor, it occurred to me that the following could be great Bond villains, but are unlikely to be considered because of their "image".

Tom (Dr Who) Baker
Stephen Fry
Barry (Dame Edna) Humphries
Nigel Hawthorne
Richard Griffiths

Any thoughts?

Perhaps John Malkovich would add some credibility to the villian role!

I can see Alan Richman as a Bond villain. Mike Myers could be, I have reasons. He was Dr. Evil in Austin Powers and looked like Blofeld, (like he was supposed to) and so I think he could get away with being Blofeld.

He would be good but I don't want an American villian...just opens up the possibility of them bringing Bond back to Vegas.

If he hadn't already been used as Zukovsky, Robbie Coltrane would be ideal IMO for Le Chiffre. When I was actually reading Casino Royale I was picturing him in that role.

You never know, if Joe Don Baker could play a baddie, then come back as a good guy, EON could always pull the same stunt with Coltrane.

A good point, but they could always just have him and then some non-American locations.

Thanks, never knew that. Seeing as he was in most films of Connery's, was he in those books? Because from what I've read on the back of the books he's only in 'On her Majesty's Secret Service' and You only LIve Twice'.

I thought of a great Bond villain that I don't think has been mentioned before--Ian McShane the former Lovejoy i've seen on PBS who has recently done great nasty villains in the movie Sexy Beast and the HBO series Deadwood. He's a very talented charismatic actor who plays mean very well while laced with menacing charm. He would be great!

Ernst Stavro Blofeld features in the following Fleming novels: Thunderball, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, You Only Live Twice.

Didn't know he was in Thunderball. Cool, is he in any other Bond books which you know of? Blofeld is the most famous Bond villain to me. Without Blofeld, Bond is nothing. AS well as Jaws and other proper famous villains.

He isn't in any other James Bond novel or short story, I've read them all, save one. SPECTRE, however, is featured later on in the Gardner novels. (For Special Services is the first if you're interested.)

Hi,

For french actor (I'm Fench, I know them well...) Patrick Timsit is the worst idea they can have, cause he's one of the worst actor I know! Vincent Cassel is a good idea, but he's may be too young and handsome to be Le Chiffre, no? I hope they will forget Jean Reno and Gerard Depardieu too...
Among French actors, may be Michel Fau (because he's crazy. But he's rather a theater actor.) or Clovis Cornillac would be interesting...
but I think Rickman and Coltrane are good ideas...

Hi,
If anyone had told me that "Ghandi" could play one of the scariest villians I'd see in the movies, I would have thought them crazy. Then Ben Kingsley makes Sexy Beast and I'm sold. There is a guy begging to be a smart, sophisticated, psycho, heavy weight bond villian.

I also really like the idea of Ian McShane.

I swear I was just about to post the same thing. After seeing "House of Sand and Fog", I can easily say that Ben Kingsley would be amazing in the villain's role. Such an emotional, inspiring actor.

William Devane wouldn't be a bad choice, either. He's appeared in "Dirty Work" and is currently on 24.

ALAN RICKMAN. I cannot believe no one has mentioned him yet!

However, he would be too thin to be Le Cheriff.

Robbie Coltrane? Well he is Zukovsky.
Rush Limbaugh? For those with a Liberal slant.
Gerard Depardeau? That could be real good.
Brian Cox? Great "tough" actor.

Gimme your thoughts!

I'm sure I've mentioned Alan Rickman somewhere. I also thought of William Dafoe. He was cool in Everything or Nothing, even though it was a game, he was cool.

Vincent D'Onofrio
Steve Buscemi
Kelsey Grammer
Christopher Lloyd
Jeff Daniels
Elias Koteas
Leonard Nimoy
Ken Kercheval
They all either have elements of previous Le Chiffres Orson Welles or Peter Lorre, or else I just think they'd be great. Think before you criticize, you'll see I'm onto something here.

Simon LeBon from Duran Duran absolutely must be Le Chiffre! Come on, he's SO got the style of a guy named "Le Chiffre". Think, they could actually have a music icon act as the villian, which would be a really interesting thing. Look at the man; he's got the potential to be evil!
