Original UK synopsis for Goldfinger.

Curiously, no one else bid on it except me.

Just looking for synopsis for Dr No and Russia now - should anyone be selling them .....

Recently bought a HB Scorpius on ebay. It was advertised as a fine 1st edition copy by Hodder & Stoughton, bargain at $18. Turned out to be the much more common Bookclub edition, which was overpriced at $18. Ahhhhhhh, still discussing it with teh seller who certainly has no sense of humour or honour.
This is the second time i've been burnt purchasing Bond books on ebay which is a shame as I was being careful and asked all the right questions. Anyway we will see how it all turns out.

Oooh; sorry to hear. That Scorpius is a tricky one because they look exactly alike except for the obvious difference on the copyright page and the 'GP' logo on the side instead of Hodder & Stoughton.

Hope you get things straigtened out.

Thanks Qwerty. I mention the story really as a warning to others just to be careful. If your not after 1st editions or fine copies its not a problem but if you are looking for those rarer editions then ask questions and inparticular ask for photos, a good book seller will always send you those. Thanksfully its not a lot of money but if it was a rare 1st edition Fleming then the amounts would be more significant.

I finally tracked down a copy of Raymond Benson's “Blast from the Past”. Took me forever to find one.

Just thought i would update the story. Paypal, which deals with the claim as payment was received, decided that the book I received was described accurately (which it wasn't). What a joke, they decided this upon an email from the seller (honest chap he was), so I'm sitting here with a Bookclub edition instead of the true first edition I was after.

Be careful there are a lot of dishonest ebay sellers out there trying to rip people off. I should also say there are a lot of good honest ebayers from whom i've bought many good Bond books and others.

Maybe we should list the ones that we have had good dealing with for Bond memorabilia.

Just got a good deal on a lot of 7 Bond books including nice copies of When the Snow Melts and TWINE: A Companion, both in excellent condition.

Most of the others I already had, so it looks like I may have a few to relist now...

Don't know if its just me, but lately sellers on Ebay have appeared much ruder and less helpful than in the past.

For example, I got replies along the lines of "check the postage calculator" or "read the description".

The description does not always contain everything and to avoid disappointment or unnecessary cost i usually like to double check the details, case in point if books are complete or have writing in them.

What annoys me, is that if sellers are willing to spend time to reply why not simply answer the questions that have been put forth rather than make remarks like the above?

I agree, lately i ve had sellers not even bother to answer my questions, so i end up not bidding on an item that i would like, because concerns or specifics havent been answered

Too be fair all the ppl that i have bought from on ebay have been very helpful and accurate with their descriptions

It's not just you, Byron. Unfortunately, I've had similar experiences lately. Although there are still a lot of very nice and helpful folks on eBay, there seems to be a growing group that are neither nice nor helpful. Having sold a few things on eBay myself, I know that it can be a lot of work to keep up with the auctions, answer questions, etc. So I can understand when there's a bit of a delay in replying, but not when the reply is rude or doesn't even answer the question (or when there's no reply at all over the course of several days).

But all things considered, my eBay experiences have been mostly quite good, frequently terrific, and only occasionally negative or significantly disappointing.

Sigma7 and MarcAnge thanks for reassuring me that it was not just my imagination.

So far i have had positive experiences too, but this recent trend towards unhelpfulness is not a good one.

My cynical mind imagines that by referring only to the vague descriptions already posted, it is easier for such persons to subsequently avoid accusations of misrepresentation.

When I receive such replies, I usually cross such a vendor off my list immediately and for all times. Occasionally, however, perhaps due to my reckless side needing a day out, I plunge headlong into such transactions. But I do so with eyes wide open and mind fully aware that there is very likely treachery afoot!

You're right Bon-San. I also do not purchase from these unhelpful vendors (unless its an ultra unique - rare item).

I've tried to resist the urge to spend to much by being very selective. In the past 5 years i have only bought 30 items. I would like to start selling too but it seems like more trouble.
