Routemaster bus could star in Bond film for the second time

The Mayor's new "Boris Bus" could make a surprise appearance in the next James Bond film, Transport for London chiefs revealed today.

As Mr Johnson prepared to drive the first bus off the production line in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, today, it was claimed that the new Routemaster could star alongside Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem in Skyfall, the 23rd movie in the James Bond series.

Daniel Moylan, deputy chairman of Transport for London, said: "The James Bond people want it for their movie. We have received approaches. When people see the bus they love it."

It would not be the first time a London bus has appeared in the James Bond series. An old-fashioned Routemaster was used in one of the most memorable chase scenes from the 1973 film Live And Let Die, starring Roger Moore and Jane Seymour.

Filming for Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, started yesterday. Eight prototypes of the new bus will start operating next year.

When Richard Branson donated a blank jet to be used in CASINO ROYALE, the producers gave him the cameo in the airport. So here I'm figuring the chase scene would involve Bond chasing someone or being chased, and as they tear onto the Blackfriars Bridge (filming is known to be taking place in Southwark, and is believed to be taking place near Smithfield Markets; if so, Blackfriars is the most direct route between the two, and the KPMG Thames Clippers are warning of disruptions to services around the bridge due to filming, though they don't specifically state that it is for SKYFALL), they zip past a Routemaster - and there, behind the wheel and complete with a bus driver's uniform, is Boris.

It has been reported that the car being used is the Jaguar XF, in silver:



And also involving a black Range Rover, possibly the Evoque:



The original articles suggested that Bond would be driving both cars. However, based on what limited reports I could find, it appears that Bond would be driving one and chasing the other. Unless there are multiple Range Rovers, and Bond hijacks one to give the appearance that he is one of the drivers being chased and not the pursuer (or vice versa).
