You know growing up MOONRAKER was my favorite of all the movies. When I saw FOR YOUR EYES ONLY two years later I felt let down because I was expecting more OTT space fantasy. However over the years MOONRAKER has slipped down my list and FOR YOUR EYES ONLY has contined to climb to the top. Now FYEO is in the top 5 of all Bond movies!I voted for TSWLM. My top three would be followed up with For Your Eyes Only and then Moonraker, which was my favourite as a youngster and one which I have special affection for.

I agree....its similar to Moore swatting his tie away and sending Sandor to his death in TSWLM.Essentially FYEO was perfect to follow up Moonraker. The only place to go was back down to earth and it worked a charm. FYEO is a great Bond film too and I love it when Moore pushes Locque in his car over the ledge. Classic Moore and shows that the man wasn't just a comedian.

Forgot about that scene. What I love about those two moments, especially in FYEO is that the joke or pun after the act was quite chilling ('he had no head for heights'), whereas in Moonraker everytime he despatched someone it was usually comical and the pun was like something from a comedy ('play it again Sam').I agree....its similar to Moore swatting his tie away and sending Sandor to his death in TSWLM.

Yes....and the pun for the Sandor scene (which a lot of people seem to forget about) was "What a helpful chap" as Moore's 007 straightens his tie....It's a classic moment!Forgot about that scene. In some respects I agree with you, it's just that the no head for heights and helpful chap lines in FYEO and TSWLM have a more chilling aura to them in light that the dispatch of the villain was quite cold hearted, whereas in Moonraker the baddies tended to be killed almost comically the pun was intended to be added for comical effect, like the play it again, Sam line.I don't feel the puns in Moonraker were any worse than in some of the other Roger Moore films, yes, some of them, you may groan at, but I really can't say they're much different to ones in TSWLM or FYEO for example.

Just the way I feel about it, rather similar many of the puns are.

Its the way the line is delivered in TSWLM.I can see your point, but I don't think "What a helpful chap" is much different in context of comedy to "Play it again, Sam."

I don't see much of a difference at all, they both seem to me, to be a quick laugh and then move onto the next scene.
I find them both funny, and relatively the same.

The point we're getting at is those lines are not said by Moore in his usual comedic stance. They are almost cold hearted puns, without an inch of comical flavour in them, even though the audience does get a laugh from them.DLibrasnow, what exactly do you mean?

Its cold and delivered in a chilling way. There is no "wink to the audience" as there is in MOONRAKER's puns.DLibrasnow, what exactly do you mean?

What I'm just saying is that, I don't think Moonraker offered any bad puns compared to his other films.

Add Mischa and Grischa, the wonderfully over-the-top General Orlov, the menacing Gobinda, and the numerous gags throughout the movie.
Oh, and I also loved whatever the OP detractors hated.
Too bad I can't change my vote!
