Here's my Moore ranking:

1.TMWTGG- Underrated. The most Conneryesque Moore film, just two guys out to kill each other, the most brutal and gritty of Moore's films (yep more than FYEO), not to mention Moore at his physical peak and my favorite acting of him, not to mention... Chris Lee! The Chinese locale is gorgeous and the decision to shoot the film flat was a wise one. One of the best car stunts ever (i just mute the slide whistle and the sound editors didn't like it either in the commentary so it's ok to know!)

2.TSWLM- Grand, extravagent, what can i say that hasn't been said before?

3.MR- Truly underrated, epic, the film feels like it's having fun, but not shamelessly, staying in its character in a way.

Others are great too but i can't seem to rank them as easily as i can my top three Moores.

For Your Eyes Only is my favorite, and also my favorite Bond film since the 60's, followed by Octopussy.

THE SPY WHO LOVED ME is my personal favourite by quite a considerable margin; depending on my mood it can also be my favourite of the entire series. Roger Moore therefore often holds the distinction of appearing in my favourite and least favourite Bond movies - the latter being A VIEW TO A KILL.

Very tricky...but I had to go with TSWLM as it was the biggest, the best, it was Bond and beyond (Certainly for Roger Moore's epic stint)! And also the most second funkiest rendition of the James Bond theme after LALD. Moore sure had it good in the 70s!

:)

But in order, best to worst, my list is as follows:

The Spy Who Loved Me
A View To A Kill
Live And Let Die
Octopussy
For Your Eyes Only
The Man With The Golden Gun
Moonraker

*hangs head*

I guess we're all different..it'd be boring otherwise!

Don't get me wrong..Moonraker is grand epic, but I think for a Bond it's just a little bit too...out there for me!

:P

..c'mon, AVTAK is a secret gem...! Isn't it?

"For Your Eyes Only" is my favourite Roger Moore Bond film. It's a gritty, down-to-earth Cold War thriller and we see a more mature and reflective Bond. It was a film that was needed after "Moonraker".

I voted for A View To A Kill, which is one of my favorite James Bond movies. Although I respect Roger Moore, he is my least favorite Bond. I am only a fan of three Bond movies from his era. Aside from my vote, I also like Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only. Moore's best performances were FYEO and AVTAK. AVTAK seems more Bondian to me than many of the pictures. The ski and Eiffel Tower chases are more true to the spirit of Bond cinema than most of what the series has given us. I know May Day is a stereotypical black character, but I think her sacrifice to save Silicon Valley was cool and she proves to be the strongest character in the film. One of my film history textbooks is Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies & Bucks: An Interpretive History of Blacks in American Films by Donald Bogle. Bogle sees the exotics black women portrayed during the 1980s as stereotypical, and briefly mentions Grace Jones in Conan the Destroyer and A View To A Kill. Bogle is right and the Amazonian woman Jones plays in the two films is a stereotype. However, I still see a lighter side to May Day as I see her a hero. I realize however, that there is going to be different cultural interpretations of May Day, so I still understand why the character will offend some African Americans.

I also like Chris Walken, as he seems appropriately weird and creepy. The plot is not complicated and Zorin's scheme is clearly explained. Although Stacey Sutton is a return to the damsel in distress idiot seen in Connery's films and Moore's first two outings after the series had stronger female characters between 1977 and 1983, she has good chemistry with Moore and her screams do not bother me either.

Maybe I am not making a good case for why the film is good, but sometimes a picture can grab you and there is no explanation for why you find it appealing. There are Bond films that for some reason turn me off like The World Is Not Enough, GoldenEye, You Only Live Twice, The Man With the Golden Gun and Octopussy. Then there are some I have become a huge fan of like AVTAK, Thunderball, Licence To Kill, For Your Eyes Only, Live and Let Die, and The Living Daylights. They just interest me and I find them appealing, and I have no idea why.

P.S. DLibrasnow is quite bright. Anyone who loves A View To A Kill and hates TWINE is good in my book.

It's hard to choose between TSWLM and OCT-which is one of the first movies I can remember going to see in the theater. i really like all of Moore's movies, even MWAGG and AVTAK.

Thanks connery&dalton. I made a thread over four years ago where I made my case for A View to a Kill. It's good to see someone else likes it and is able to argue his case for it too. :)

Gotta vote for Live and Let Die here. I certainly won't argue it was the best Moore Bond, but something about throwing Bond into the blaxploitation genre really clicked with me. Also, its score is, in my opinion, probably the most underrated out of all the films.

Since I "had to" choose between TSWLM,Octopussy & Moonraker, I chose Moonraker.

I dont know if it's because, apparently, I have a soft spot for this particular movie, because I saw it often, when I was a kid.

Or because it blends the humor, real elements & scifi stuff so well together. IMO, that is.

TSWLM is one of a small number of Bond films I'd show someone who's not a fan to let them know what they were missing...

FYEO disproves any grumblings Roger Moore was too "light" to be a good Bond...

Octopussy has really grown on me. Successive viewings make me like it more and more (no pun intended).

If I'm in the proper spirit (that is, I don't mind a "00" in outer space), Moonraker can be good fun.

LALD has excellent action, but has dated badly...it's too reminiscent of the Superfly era.

TMWTGG --- the rushed (for Bond films) production and bad script bother me...lots of potential wasted...

AVTAK: a potentially good swan song for Sir Roger is ultimately thrown away with spotty editing, special effects, and production.

I put down LALD

I loved that one because to me, Bond's watch was the coolest watch in all of the Bond's. It had the super magnet that could deflect bullets, and it had a buzz saw built in.

I have a soft spot for TMWTGG, which is a close second in the Moore era for me. LALD following that.

You know how hard it is to actually get me to choose a favorite moore bond? I love all of his. Half the time i can't pick a favorite roger bond movie I go from AVTAK to OP to MR to TMWTGG to TSWLM to FYEO the only one i haven't really watched lately is LALD and like i said they change quite a bit but if i had to pick a favorite roger bond movie RIGHT now it would have to be MR or TMWTGG but here we go again AVTAK is never far behind.
