However, my favorite Moore line is from AVTAK: "Sir Godfrey, on a mission, I am expected to sacrifice myself." That always cracks me up.

Gotta love the Bond-Tibbet interplay.
During a break in filming Moore asked MacNee to a dance (Source: Starlog A View to a Kill movie magazine).
You gotta have solid masculine credentials to get away with that! ;

Plus, it was made at the point in time when the public was even more interested in technology and gadgets than Q himself

But back to LALD, it's charm resides in the fact that, despite dealing with voodoo & tarot BS, it's actually a solid & believable adventure. There's nothing in here that's too farfetched, and Yaphet Kotto is THE man. Definitely the selling point of the red DVD box set for me.
::EDIT:: 29 people voted for AVTAK? Daaaaaaamn, bullets aint cheap!

After a recent viewing, I'd actually put The Man With The Golden Gun as my second favourite Bond film, just behind Casino Royale. I can understand why a lot of people don't like it, but there something about it that I just love and makes me want to watch it over and over again.
C'mon, Loomis, I know you're with me on this one.
I'll back you up on the love for TMWTGG. For me it's the unique plot, the interesting locales, Christopher Lee's marvelous work as Scaramanga, and John Barry's mysterious score that really make the film click.
The film seems to retain LALD's edge while having a breezy, fun feel to it that avoids slapstick that would hurt Moore's films later on. It feels like a compromise between the Mankiwiecz-era edge and the more fantastical turn in TSWLM.
Definitely my favorite Moore outing.

My favorite Moore movie? "For Your Eyes Only". I also think it is Moore's best Bond film.
It's certainly very close.

1. The Spy Who Loved Me
2. For Your Eyes Only
3. A View to a Kill
4. Octopussy
5. Moonraker
6. Live and Let Die

I love The Man with the Golden Gun! The villian is perfect, Christopher Lee did a good job. He was as good as Bond! He was an ultimate villian!
Me too, I just got the thing on the single disc DVD and it's so refreshing to watch it. I love TMWTGG. Like I said I don't know what my fav Rog Bond is anymore.

even if LALD had better henchmen, TMWTGG had a better villain, TSWLM had better Lotus action, MR had a better music score, OP was more Bondian exotic and AVTAK was the 1st Roger Moore one I saw at the cinema and will always bring back fond memories (oh and it has Christopher Walken :-))
They all have their charms of course, being a Bond fan I could pop any of them into the DVD player right now lol

1. Octopussy - This one strikes a PERFECT balance of light-hearted humor and tense seriousness. Roger might have looked a bit old but the comfortability and ease with which he played Bond allows me to overlook this one minor flaw. A
2. For Your Eyes Only - I love the "revenge" theme, the references to Bond's marriage and the plot devices from the Bond short stories. B+
3. Live & Let Die - What a great score! The villains are classic, the Bond girl is beautiful, and it was really the first Bond films post-OHMSS and the only Moore film to deviate from the typical Bond formula. Even Sheriff Pepper is tolerable in this one. B+
4. The Spy Who Loved Me - Overrated, but still has its pluses. The PTS, the Lotus, Jaws, the scenes in Egypt, are all classic Bond. Stromberg is a forgettable villain simply because he was nothing more than an aquatic Blofeld. The underwater scenes drag far too long (like in Thunderberall) but it's still a memorable film nonetheless. B-
5. Moonraker - I really dig the first half of the film. In all actuality, if you don't mind the idea of Bond going into space, then there shouldn't be anything bothersome to you about the second half. Unfortunately, it was a bit too much for me. But other than that, I love almost everything else about this movie, including the gondola chase, the free falling PTS, and the return of the "007 Theme." However, I could have done without the silly return by Jaws and the U.S. "Space Marines." Ugh. But, I still contest that this film had one of the, if not THE, best John Barry scores. The haunting tracks "Flight Into Space" and "Space Lazer Battle" are what makes the final third of the film somewhat watchable. C
6. The Man With the Golden Gun - This, alongside "AVTAK," "DAF," and "DAD," is one of those totally unwatchable Bond movies for me. I think when people want to point out silly Roger Moore-ness, they need not look any further than this film. It's a shame, that, like AVTAK, which features Christopher Walken, a great film presence is wasted on a terrible film in Christopher Lee. It's the perfect example of "excesses" in Bond films: excess Bond girls (Mary Goodnight), and excess returns of irrelevant characters (Sheriff Pepper in THAILAND? At the SAME time as Bond?) Strangely enough, Rog comes off as a real bad- in this one. However, I really think this film has more flaws than any other Bond film. D+
7. A View To a Kill - BORING. That's what makes this film so bad. It's so tiresome. Like many others have cleverly noted, it's really nothing more than a 20th anniversary or so remake of "Goldfinger." Swap Fort Knox with Silicon Valley, make Goldfinger thin and twice as menacing, and suck out all the original film's originality and glory, and you get "A View To a Kill." I (tried to) watched it recently and noted that Roger wasn't AS old as I remember him being, but he still should have left before this film, with "Octopussy" being his last. Again, as I said above, Christopher Walken is one of the most distinguishable American actors today yet in Bond circles he'll be remembered as being in one of arguably worst Bond films in history. What a shame. There's absolutely NOTHING memorable about the film save for the theme song and maybe Christopher Walken's performance; no cool car, no exotic locations (besides Paris, maybe, which is featured for far too short of a time period), no great set pieces, nothing. I won't even mention the completely inappropriate use of the Beach Boys' "California Girls" in the PTS. And it WASN'T EVEN THEM!! Oh yeah, and May Day was far too ugly and menacing to be a Bond girl. D-
That's my .007 cents.

FYEO. I love the PTS, no matter what anyone says. The rest of the movie is pure gold. Great Bond girls, great suspense, great everything. Second would be OP.
Well, I'm not a fan of the PTS for FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, I certainly love the rest of the movie. I think it's one of the best Bond films ever.

It does seem to sit quite nicely between For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill.
One of my faves.
