Did Mendes say much about it?

He says he intends for it to be at the start of SPECTRE, but admits he thought the same about SKYFALL as well.

Mendes says "I definitely think I'll try to put it in [at the start] this time", which Craig follows up with "For Christ's sake, Sam, don't commit".

There was an alternate for QOS?

Indeed. It can be found in 'Bond on Set: Filming Quantum of Solace". Interesting that they went for the suit for the final version. I'm fine with either, but Craig doing the gunbarrel in a dinner jacket would look so damn good. I'm hoping for that. Hah, and cheers for that Vaux! Nice little tidbit there.

It surprises me how ambivalent some people are about the gunbarrel. It's one the greatest pieces of graphic design ever conceived and, next to (IMO above) the SW crawl, the most iconic movie opening of all time. It needs to be back at the beginning. Stop pissing about and get it back in there, EON!

Odds are, though it'd make sense according to the current timeline to have it back at the beginning, it'll be at the end of the film again. Send the people out on a high note, so to speak... Damn them for it, though.

If nothing else, even if the film stinks(which I doubt it will), PLEASE give me a traditional gunbarrel at the beginning- with Dan walking not too fast, not too slow and some decent music!

I just want to see some semblance of the traditional design. One of the most perplexing things about Skyfall for me was that the original gunbarrel featured so heavily in the poster campaign, and yet the design at the end of the film looked like a very basic clip art job - much like the one in QoS.

I'm sure it's been said before many time, but if you want to get technical, the last time we have had a classic Gunbarrel opening was in 1999 with TWINE. DAD technically doesn't count because it had the 3D bullet.

Regardless, whether it is at the beginning or end, just please PLEASE let the movie be great. Would you rather have a disappointing Bond film with the gunbarrel at the beginning or an exceptional Bond film with the gunbarrel at the end. B)

An exceptional Bond film with the Gunbarrel at the beginning.

I was being a smart ass. Of course I want an exceptional film AND a gunbarrel at the beginning.

To be totally honest, even though its been one of my annoyances of the Craig era (a small one) at this point, four films in, I think they should just end the Craig era with it at the end of the film and let the next guy kick off with a bang with the gunbarrel at the start. I keep waiting for the "traditional" Craig Bond film, but at this point I dont think its going to happen. Not that Im complaining as I love the Craig films, but I really would have liked to have seen Craig as Bond in a return to the series formula, but we're four movies in now so they might as well just keep on keeping on.

My thoughts on this are similar to yours. For consistency's sake, I'd rather them simply keep the gunbarrel at the end at this point, at least for the Craig era. I view it as a nice line of demarcation separating the original continuity from the reboot continuity.

I thought that as well. However, Connery himself didn't appear in the gunbarrel sequence until Thunderball. That's four films into his tenure.

True, but only Bond fans really know that. Most viewers are not aware of that. And I think beginning vs. end is a much more glaring change than Simmons vs. Connery.

I've said it before, but I don't really care what they do with the gunbarrel. As far as I'm concerned, it's basically just EON's studio logo, serving the same purpose that MGM's lion serves at the start of the film. If EON decides that they want to put that at the end, that's their prerogative and it doesn't matter to me one bit.

I find it helps.

Or would, anyway. With QoS and Skyfall it's easy to forget it's a Bond movie until the titles.

The gunbarrel will be at the beginning because this will be the first full fledged Bond adventure.

It's gonna come and we're gonna cheer :)

I think that, given what we know of the film's opening shot, the gunbarrel will be back at the beginning.  It seems like it will have been shot in such a way that the opening shot is SUPPOSED to work in tandem with the gunbarrel opening up.

Very good news on the gunbarrel regarding the design! But there'll still a bit of a twist. Which I really like the sound of!

The "Bond theme blaring out" is all well and good, but is it the proper Barry arrangement that Martin, Conti, Kamen, Serra and ultimately Arnold on DAD and QoS used, or is it the alternative versions of Hamlisch or Arnold's first two.

I loved the slow teasing build-up over the logos to the blaring 'DAH-DAH' - a really nice touch.

Is it the same take of Daniel Craig with a business suit (I would have loved if this time he would have been wearing a- black- dinner jacket in this sequence ) from QOS, is it the one from SF, or is it a new one??
