You know you're onto a winner when the gunbarrel is back at the start - no 20 seconds of music at the start of a film can conjure up as much excitement and anticipation as a segment of the Bond theme blasting out with that iconic gunbarrel.

Even listening to that 'DAF' track above gets me excited!

No cowbell for Spectre?

Now THAT is the pinnacle of all gun-barrels. Dangerous, powerful and with a cow-bell. What more do you need!?

I must admit I liked Bill Conti's arrangement for the gunbarrel in FYEO. And if we are to see the return of the gunbarrel at the start of Spectre, I'd like an original arrangement by Thomas Newman.

I've missed the old gunbarrel. That few minutes between the end of the trailers/adverts and the moment when the BBFC certificate appears on screen, and you know moments later what's coming up used to make me, in my dear old mum's expression, God bless her, all "duck-knobby"! :)

My favorite gunbarrel arrangement, by far. If you coupled this music with Lazenby's walk, that would be perfection to me.

Thunderball is my second favorite, behind FYEO. As you said, classy rendition.

A truer statement has never been spoken. You'd have to speed up the circles, but you could jive those two together.

The thundering, ominous gunbarrel of LTK is a close third in the pantheon of gunbarrels.

As much as I am a fan of the John Barry arrangements for "TJBT", I very much like George Martin's version for LALD. Even when the gun barrel opens up showing innocuous footage of the UN building in New York City, the last few menacing minor key notes of Martin's arrangement warns the audience that something bad is about to happen.

Of the Brosnan gunbarrels, I'll take GoldenEye.

But I really like the gunbarrel arrangements for You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and Licence to Kill.

I agree. However I also really like TND's arrangement. Very smooth.

I hope the SPECTRE gunbarrel is on the DAF side. Loud, dramatic and on the rougher side. Especially if the sequence has been absent from the opening since 2002. Make it a statement.

This is why I'm glad Mendes is at the helm. As a fan himself you know he's going to crank up the decibels on the sequence. I'm really excited to see it. It'll be the first properly placed gunbarrel I've ever seen in a theater.

Just don't expect too much when it comes to the gunbarrel.

Does the quality of the gunbarrel influence your feelings about the movie as a whole? The only thing that tempts me to watch DAF is the gunbarrel. Sometimes it deters me from watching a great movie. TSWLM? Crappy gunbarrel. And then, of course, there's the double whammy of a crappy gunbarrel with a crappy movie. AVTAK? Never watching that again.

I trust that Mendes will put the gunbarrel at the beginning of the film this time.  So far I loved Craig´s turns at it.

By the way, I must admit I had forgotten that so many of the earlier gunbarrel-intros were showing Bond walking and turning not in color but in black and white!

Love Conti's disco Bond, especially the 'wah-wah' guitar at the end.  Not the best pre-titles sequence, but maybe the coolest.

Yes, in a way. For me it's the music accompanying the gunbarrel and not the visuals.

Except for Moore from TSWLM to AVTAK... if you turn that slowly, you deserve to be shot!

FYEO is my absolute favorite gunbarrel. Conti's score is terrific.

Just a thought: could that be that the movie opens with a "double"-gunbarrel? Reference to M. Hinx weapon.

I don't think Mendes would want to mess with the format again. This one should be the first standard gunbarrel in 16 years.

Agreed. And if he did otherwise, his comments of wanting to use it for Skyfall, but thinking it wouldn't fit, would look less genuine.
