The gunbarrel is...
Spoiler
I’m noticing, that at least so far, in all of the Gunbarrels of the Craig era the iris doesn’t move.

What's wrong with the musical arrangement of the Spectre gunbarrel?

It's the only one with the "classic" structure. This essentially tries to combine both the classic and Arnold's TND/TWINE structure into one cue.
Does it starts with Hamlisch's TSWLM and Arnold's TND/TWINE arrengement or with the "classic" one??

Sounds like the bit over the studio logos was tracked in from the final scene of SF ("You know, we've never formally been introduced..."), although the addition of the vibraphone at 0:04 makes me think it's an arrangement. Weird.
Everything that follows appears to be a mashed together re-recording of The Name's Bond from CR. This is definitely Arnold's Bond theme, not Newman or Barry's.

It's kind of weird to see and (hear) the logos of MGM and then Columbia with James Bond Theme as background music, but then it comes the Gunbarrel sequence with the “classic” arrangement so.... it's fine for me.
Now, I think the SF Gunbarrel's music is the one with the most awkward arrangement of James Bond theme, according to the traditional standards of this sequence.

Loved the new gunbarrel.
Didn't notice his gun until you pointed it out, though!

Loved the gunbarrel! Anyone else notice how Bond faded into silhouette!

While this is the closet we've gotten to a traditional gun-barrel in the Craig era

Although for many fans it doesn't really matter if the gunbarrel is at the beginning, the end or not present at all, for me it was a really pleasant surprise to see it back where it really belongs (IMO, of course ) .
Since I was a little kid, it always was a part of the experience of going to a Bond movie that I was most eager to see.
Ps: Tomorrow Never Dies gunbarrel scene is still my favorite

I think with the throwback to the static Maurice Binder look, Mendes is telling us he's delivering a very old school Bond. And I like the printed words after, explaining as it does much of influence the "dead" characters have over the living (a William Faulkner theme from As I Lay Daying too, but probably not intended by the writers.)

I liked the overlay of the Skyfall ending intro onto the MGM/Columbia logos - it just built up the anticipation to the long-overdue payoff when those white dots started rolling across the screen.
Never mind the 'out-of-synch-with-the-previous-gunbarrel-intros' aspect. Never mind the 'fades-to-black-without-the-dropping-and-opening-iris' aspect - Craig finally got the turn-and-shoot pose just right (yes, you can see the pistol in his right hand - was anyone surprised when he turned and shot first?).
Seems Brosnan is the only one who gets the reflections-in-the-gunbarrel treatment. I can live with that - at least they got the gunbarrel aspect right.
"Welcome back, Mr. Bond - it's been awfully dull 'round 'ere lately."

I like the idea of that little component of the gunbarrel sequence being unique to Brosnan's era.

Indeed. It fits with the overall slick and techy presentation of the those films.
Although I would have loved the wobble and the Iris opening up... there wouldn't have been a good way to do that considering the next shot was a black screen with text.

Although I'm happy as a clam that the gunbarrel is back where it belongs, I was let down by the music itself. I miss the late '60s-80s when each gunbarrel cue was distinct.

I can't believe they still don't get it fully right with the gunbarrel... Making the gunbarrel move after Bond shoots and opening the iris on the skeleton's cigare could have been such a great intro (with a new bond theme arrangement this would have been even better).
Instead we got the sentence "The dead are alive", which looks a little pretentious to open a Bond movie.
At least we got a decent design. And I do like the Bond theme crescendo over the MGM/Columbia logos (even if it is exactly the same as at the end of Skyfall). Reminds me of the QoS opening.

I agree. It's close but no cigar.

The gunbarrel iris in Craig's movies always fades and never moves. I noticed this when rewatching Skyfall the other day. I think QoS fades to credits, yes?
Also, the gunbarrel moving after the blood falls down the screen symbolizes Bond's target (from our perspective) dying. So with SPECTRE's gunbarrel, it kind of forebodes the ending. "The dead are alive." Fitting, given all the callbacks (this is the first time they've 'reused' a villain from the official series too.)

"Official" series?
I know what you mean, but wouldn't "original" series better describe it?
I'm not interested in seeing a rebooted Dr. No or Goldfinger, but as Blofeld and SPECTRE were ongoing enemies I am happy to see them (back) in this series.
