I'm still waiting for a Pink one to pop up in the season finale.

Glad to see I'm not the only one B)

Although I must admit I don't know why everyone doesn't seem to like the ATDs. Sure they're not fantastic, but I must admit I quite like them. Especially that blue one. Mm-mm-good. Seriously though I do like the ATDs.

Watched it less than sober on my return ^^ but ....Some lovely ideas and scenes and imo the best Dalek story since 'parting of the ways' but as most others note agree its just too rushed.... I think its time to break away from the concept that the stories have to delvelop almost real time from the moment he Doctor arrives.

I really enjoyed this episode. 10 out of 10, and no bloody less. Yeah and I agree, they could have broken it down into 2 episodes. Would have even been better. Those Spitfires in space were incredible!!!! If only it could have lasted longer. Story wise. As for Matt Smith. Well, for me (and my two nephews who are watching the series with me) he simply is Doctor Who; and I can't say better than that. Murray Gold's music is a delight as usual. All in all, the whole team has proved that they know what they're doing: Giving us the best! Thanks.

Love Smith as the Doc. We had FAR too much of Tennant's suffering.

But isn't two episodes out of his first three where the Doctor does basically nothing (in the second AMY saves the day!) pushing it a bit?

Super disappointing. Should have known with all the hype around this episode that it couldn't match it.
What are they thinking with those technicolor Daleks??? I almost expected them to pull off a heist in Italy on the way...
The design is very good - I like them. Quite old-school, TV21/Dalek Movies.Their voices were pretty good too.

Bill Paterson was superb - best actor in the episode for me, but wide-eyed Amy is panning out awfully IMHO - does anyone else find her not only annoying but all too knowing for someone who has had only two trips on the TARDIS? McNeice was ho-hum, but he wasn't helped by the atrocious dialogue Gatiss fed him.
More mawkish patriotism - the Iwo Jima flag raising rip-off... and Daleks re-spawn bodily now, apparently. B)

That was possibly the best Dalek episode I've ever seen.

Fair dues -it's your opinion Mharkin, but is it really better than GENESIS, THE DALEKS, DAY OF, RESURRECTION, REVELATION, REMEMBRANCE and DALEK? B)

Yep, it is. Anyone want to take bets on River Song saving the day in two weeks time? B)

Not sure if its that sort of show...

That may well be the point of her character....i.e. she knows a lot already. Say no more...

Nine's first three:

Rose saves the day
Doctor saves the day, but with a lot of help from alien trees and whatnot
Charles Dickens saves the day

Yes, it's all very contrived and convenient. With a further 'revelation' to come, no doubt.

McNeice was ho-hum, but he wasn't helped by the atrocious dialogue Gatiss fed him.

I like Ian McNeice (although he, sadly, appears to be morbidly obese these days), but I think he was miscast as Churchill. It would have been a neat trick if they could have got Simon Ward instead. And what's with all the hair? Churchill was bald!

I thought McNiece was great as Churchill, surprised to hear any concerns there, Bill Patterson was also spot on....they both deserved more screen time imo. It was definitely a story that needed more breathing space however....still vies with Parting of the ways as my favourite Dalek episode of the new series (no clue why Dalek is so highly regarded).

Would I like the Doctor more involved in the denoument? yes and no, Tennants Doctor was far far far too often saving the day by being omnicient and inventing some ludicorusly contrived device, the great thing here is that the plots are finding a resolution that isnt soley using that conceit and looking back to the original Series the show really often saw the Doctor being a catalyst or inspiration whereby people resolved their own problems rather than him physically providing every answer.

The Doctor:
Get out.

Amy:
Doctor? I… I saved you.

The Doctor:
Yeah, exactly. You saved me at the one time I couldn’t be saved. I was at the end of my life. Every thing has their time, and everything ends. Someone told me that, a friend. A very, very good friend, and she was right. Don’t you understand? Me, being alive, right now, is a paradox. I am alive in the universe, right here, right now. And I shouldn’t be. I should be dead.

Amy:
You have a new fresh life Doctor, I saved you.

The Doctor:
Oh yeah, you humans, you think you know EVERYTHING. You make Spontaneous decisions, decisions what you think are right, when they’re not. Listen to me Amelia, you don’t understand. I was at the end of my life, THE END OF MY LIFE, and you saved me. You shouldn’t have done that. I’m not the Doctor anymore… I don’t even exist. I am a paradox, and paradoxes are the worst thing to have at a time like this.

Amy:
What do you mean?

The Doctor:
…You’re going home.

The Spitfires were great, yeah; I loved that bit.

I didn't mind the Doctor not winning the day (he and Amy did it as a team; that's fine); but I did think that Churchill should have done something to save the day. He's a proper hero and he should have been shown doing something to win.

(no clue why Dalek is so highly regarded).

For me at least, it helps that it was my introduction to the Daleks, but in spite of obvious flaws Dalek tries to do something rather grand. Even at his most angry, the Doctor never really seemed more than very concerned by the Daleks. In Dalek we see him actually break down. He panics when he first sees it in the room, and he turns into a frothing homicidal maniac after that. And there's a nice contrast between the Doctor's cold, blind, dare I say alien, rage and Rose's humanity. Is Dalek perfect? No. No story ever really has been, and no New Who Dalek story has yet approached the greats of the classic series, but it tries, and for me, it mostly succeeds in some degree. /endminorgush

I agree re the Dalek episode called, er, DALEK. It was not a great entry, quite lazily plotted and aged really badly.

In my opinion the re-designed incredibly ugly. Well... they actually look okay from the front - but they have a terrible hunchback thing going on. Also the colour schemes are awful. The only one I liked the look of was the black/white one. That worked, but was just about the only thing that did.

Time of Angels....always iffy as the next episode could really let it down but imo that was one very impressive episode. Matt Smith was terrific, very Troughton-esque (my favourite Doctor), the story moved quick enough without the rushed feel of the preceeding stories, not quite the shock value of Blink but a nice air of forboding and some nice twists on the mythology to really cement the Angels as a worthy addition to the ranks of recurring threats like Daleks and Cybermen.

It was alright, although some of the dialogue was overwritten. Shame the BBC had to go and put that Graham Norton crap over the end, though. B)

Oh, and Alex Kingston is a very beautiful woman, probably.

That was brilliant: faith entirely restored.

Exciting, funny, tense, beautiful to look at, all performers spot-on (Matt actually seemed better here than in the previous episodes: odd since he shot this first)... just fantastic Dr Who. Loved it.

And it kicked off with a pre-credit sequence that a Bond movie would be proud of!

How so? After reading this I went to the Saint thread and according to Ian Dickerson negotiations are ongoing with an, as yet, unnamed person. (Unless I missed a post, in which case I apologise but do please fill me in.)

Simon Dutton, who played Alistair in Time of Angels, played the Saint in 1989.
