Actually, he was asked back. If I remember correctly, the first scene was to show a gravely injured eighth Doctor running away from the Autons, and regenerating. Dunno why that didn't happen, which is a great shame.

Yes that's news to me as well.
I think we all would have loved to see him regenerate at the beginning of the episode, but alas...

I'd don't know why they've never written more past 9th Doctor adventures, before he met Rose. I'm sure that it was indicated that he travelled the universe for a long time after the Time War. And there was the Sumatra, Titanic, and JFK storylines as well.

Just a thought.

Audio adventures would be cool as well. Don't know if Eccleston would do them though.

P

When exactly those pictures were placed, we don't know, though. The Doctor is a time traveler, after all, and he appears to have been fairly freshly regenerated in Rose. Who's to say he didn't nip off to the Titanic in that half-second interval between leaving Rose with Mickey and then coming back to say, "Did I mention it travels in time?" Also, some audio and books suggest the Doctor occasionally goes off on his own little adventures while leaving companions behind to do whatever they please, more or less (for example, in Vampire Science the Doctor leaves Sam at a Greenpeace rally), and at a couple of points in the New Series they do reference adventures we haven't seen (such as Nine mentioning them just having escaped Kyoto, I think it was -- somewhere in Japan, that much I recall -- in Bad Wolf). So it's possible he dropped Rose off somewhere she wanted to go and went to go watch JFK be assassinated or something as well.

He wasn't asked back; in fact, he's never been asked back, not even over a decade since he did the TV movie:

2. Troughton
3. C.Baker
4. Pertwee
5. Hartnell
6. McGann

Oh and there's this

He wasn't asked back; in fact, he's never been asked back, not even over a decade since he did the TV movie:

Still think it's a dire shame.

1. McCoy
2. Troughton
3. C.Baker
4. Pertwee
5. Hartnell
6. McGann
-----
7. T.Baker
8. Tennant
9. Eccleston
10. Davison

Honestly I have difficulty ranking them beyond McCoy as #1. The rest fluctuate far too much for me to really keep a list. The only thing that has remained consistent is Paul McGann is, nine or eight times out of ten, in the top three, although whether he's number two or number three does vary quite a bit.

New End of Time clip. Not too terribly new, but an extension of something we've seen in the trailers. And it involves Herman Schultz. Which makes me happy.

And another Bernard Cribbins interview.

And that's all the news I have for now, folks. I imagine there will probably start being more, what with it only being ten days and something hours until the End of Time airs. Who knows how much that more will be new, though.

Interesting clip. It looks cheesey as hell though. I'm beggining to get a little bit worried about The End Of Time actually.

I'm still quite excited for it. Worried? A bit, but I have been from the start. RTD formula for season finale is big blowout, and he seems to think bigger blowout = better finale. I mean, you look at the past and it's Earth and Satellite Five to be destroyed by Dalek Armada, Earth to be destroyed in Dalek-Cybermen war (my favorite of the finales, mostly because I feel it's the one that works best as an actual story), the Master conquers the world (which, actually, was pretty cool for the most part), and the whole of reality to be wiped out by Davros. And he has a tendency to spring for deus ex machina. Bad Wolf Entity, Archangel Network, and DoctorDonna (Doomsday is, so far as I can recall, void of deus ex machina). So, yeah, there's a part of me that's worried, but in addition to pieces in the trailers that make it look like typical RTD blowout, there are pieces that make it seem more scaled back. And really, I don't have many problems with the first three season finales before the moment of deus ex machina, so if the End of Time turns out more like those than like Stolen Earth/Journey's End, I'll be happy. I would love it, though, if RTD managed to make a more Caves of Androzani or Logopolis type finale. The stakes are relatively small, but it still makes a good story and good finale. Story before explosions, that's the way it ought to be.

Also, I've just remembered something. Remember that old io9 article back in June when we got first wind of Dalton being in Doctor Who? At the bottom of the article, there's an image that's supposed to be a piece of one of the sets for the End of Time (whether part one or part two or both, who knows?). Here, since it won't let me post the image.

Does that mean there's going to be a yet another return? I'll make sure the only things around me are soft on Christmas Day then, so when I throw them at the telly, it won't do any damage.

From what little we know (or seem to know), it's a not a return, per se. I'll say no more and leave it for you to discover come New Year's or unless someone else tells you.

And now on to stuffs,

SFX has collected amusing yet obviously bogus DW stories. Also from SFX, there's an excerpt of an interview with RTD regarding the End of Time. Scans of the magazine with the full article may follow later if I can get my hands on some. And that's about it right now, though I have a feeling there might be more later tonight.

For UK residents who may have missed it, that link there is the Never Mind the Buzzcocks special. International version should be up no later than tomorrow night, probably later tonight honestly. Quite looking forward to that myself. And it would seem that trailer Mharkin saw was apparently all old material just arranged in a new trailer (not surprising really). International version of that should be up later, too, so I'll see if that's true or if there really is new material. Even if there is new stuff, I doubt it's anything to get too horribly excited over. Trailer was probably very very short, and on top of that, wiser to keep everything we haven't seen secret until Christmas, eh?

There's quite a bit of new footage. Master screaming and being 'reborn' comes to mind, as well as shots of Donna, and Wilf. Some new dialogue as well, though I can't recall it. Oh, there was a new shot of the earth to open the trailer, as wel.

Well damn, Mharkin beat me to posting it. But okay, so my source was wrong on that count. There is a little tiny bit of new stuff. And what wonderful new stuff it is. Mostly old clips, but that new stuff is great, especially the Master as he's being revived.

And wow that fan trailer is awesome B)

Still in the middle of hunting down Buzzcocks!

And does anyone else remember those stories about the Doctor's mother? Word is...

EDIT:
The good people over on the DW wiki are claiming ep one is indeed The Eleventh Hour, but there is no citation and I feel it might be a recent edit, so I'll keep an eye on that, see if someone comes up with some evidence or it gets redacted.

Also here's a fun rumor:
DWM apparently has a picture of David Tennant in a Time Lord outfit. More on this if I can find anything...

EDIT AGAIN:

DW NMTB for any interested non-UK residents. Watching it now myself.

Stuff!

First up, two new promo pics for the End of Time. Here and here. Note the men in the background. Same uniforms as those guarding the Gate, presumably both sets of men are in Naismith's employ.

Next, two interviews which I'm told are actually fairly similar. Only watched one so far myself so I can't be sure. There is a snippet of filming in the first link, which I thought was a touch interesting, if nothing special or revealing. Here and here.

And as the last bit of news, due to time differences it is already underway, but the press screening of the End of Time, Part One started about thirty minutes ago. This means tomorrow there could well be some new photographs.

They will probably be frustrated folks about as well since there is a habit of cutting away before the cliffhanger ending.

With the preview of series 4 ep 1 they cut the bit with Rose out of it and thereby surprising all reviewers after the actual showing on the telly.

Yes, but it doesn't mean there won't be more out there in the next few days. I really just can't wait until Boxing Day, when it'll air over here.

Also, here's something a bit fun fact-y: End of Time pt 1 was originally titled The Final Days of Planet Earth.

Yes there is a small picture of David Tennant wearing the Time Lord outfit, there is no explanation given for it. (DWM 416)

If it's the one of him wearing it outdoors in a quarry type-place that's from a couple of years ago during the shooting of Last of the Time Lords.
