What's not exciting is the smell of all these panties twisted into a giant bunch about this gunbarrel.

I think I'm up too late reading reviews and reading to much into things. There was one review though which mentions??
Could Silva be a cyborg?

Still looking forward to the film at full 100% rate. I'm disappointed, but I won't let it ruin my Skyfall experience.

I think that scene will play out great in the film.

On this point, upon reflection its seems like pushing Le Chiffre's "wow, you take very good care of your body" exchange just a little bit further. Similar scenario too, except Bond has clothes on this time!Yes, from a handful of reviews, I think it's strongly implied that Silva has some level of attraction to Bond, but I doubt it will be stated verbally.
Yeah, Silva being gay isn't surprising. Interested to see how it's handled, though.
I admit to being surprised. It's routine for action movie villains to be effeminate or vaguely "bent", but explicitly gay is something else. If the depiction isn't pitch-perfect, they risk being accused of perpetuating yada yada yada. (And not without some justification, considering Bond's history with this stuff.) So I'm impressed that they've decided to go there. And it makes a lot of sense, given some of the stuff Bardem has said about the character. I can well imagine how this trait might figure in Silva's personal calamities and motivations for taking revenge, and how it could result in a more sympathetic and complex character.
Not sure about 'explicitly gay' i believe in one of the reviews it mentioned a scene between Bond and Silva being 'loaded with meaning'. I'm guessing it's implied at best.

I'm interested in reading his review. Would you be able to point me in that direction?Ones of the posters at another forum I frequent went to the press screening (proved it with his ticket and everything) and gave a rave review of the film. Interestingly, he mentioned that he is a more a fan of the novels than the films, so I guess that is a good sign for those whose Bondmania is more literary than cinematic.

To be more accurate, it's more a quick summary of his initial reaction than a full-blown review. However, I'm sure he will link to his full review when it is released. Warning though, there is some discussion of spoilers in the thread. On page, 21 or 22 of the the thread, he mentions that he is a major fan of the novels, the films not so much.

Nah. It is what it is. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it.May be there are two versions of Skyfall - one with the gunbarrel at the beginning, one with it at the end. Then they would have used the second for the press release just to tease fans which are the only ones who care about it.

I enjoyed reading this one especially. By all accounts Skyfall adds to the character and the franchise - as well as commenting on the world today. The mix of old and new is going to work really well. The Variety review is in...
