I didn't think Jar-Jar's appearance was too bad in this TBH. It worked with the narrative.

Making him a Sith Lord was quite inspired. All this time he was pulling the strings. Who knew??!!!

It's ridiculous saying this film is a homage or a call-back to the original. It's simply giving us something we've forgotten in a time of complex film twists and turns - a simple story of good and evil.

Looks like Bond isn't the only one who has gone overboard with callbacks and homages.

"Lacks a single original idea"?
It starts with one.
But that kind of headline, of course, gets more clicks. Great journalism.

Saw it last night--no spoilers here--but it's very mindful of New Hope and Empire. Gives SW fans what they want. JJ acquitted himself well. If it's unoriginal, well, no more so than Jedi was. Ah, the spherical destruction weapons!

Most certainly is. I don't see how it can be denied. It's better than any of the prequels, but a tad disappointing.

Well, being better than the prequels isn't exactly an accomplishment. However, it's relieving to hear that the film is more like the original trilogy.
I don't mean to be negative. It does many things correctly.

I'd argue that it's better than Jedi, no Ewoks and one or two really unforeseen, if not gut punching, twists.

Got in my second viewing of Star Wars yesterday.. Loved it even more.. Despite the annoying teenagers siting next to us texting and taking selfies throughout the damn movie!!! Grrr.. They deserverd to be slapped..
Oh god the selfie thing. I took a trip to auschwitz a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe how many people posed for selfies. I can't possibly imagine smiling there and yet here are people jumping around and posing for pictures like its a night club. #smh

It's definitely better second time around. I rank it just below the classic trilogy and better than the prequels.

I'll make the argument that it's better than Return of the Jedi. Most of the complaints against The Force Awakens can also be leveled against RoJ as far as recycling the Death Star trope goes. But TFA gives us great new characters in Rey and Finn, as well as BB-8. Jedi gave us Ewoks, a budgetary compromise for not being able to film the Wookie home planet at the time. After the requisite scenes on Tatooine and Degobah, Jedi basically recycles the third act of Episode IV instead of giving us an original battle on the Empire's home planet on Coruscant. And Starkiller base does some different things than Death Star 2.0.
It's now the second highest grossing film of all time in the US, having passed Titanic and Jurassic World today. Only $100M more to catch Avatar and it hasn't even opened in China yet.

I have to say I enjoyed the new one more than any of the others which in my opinion haven't dated well at all.
Regardless, I thought the Force Awakens was good fun and very watchable - albeit a kid's film so can't really be taken that seriously.
Still, as I'm pretty interested in box office matters it's quite something to see its spectacular takings - wow - it'll beat Avatar's domestic total easily - very interested if it'll beat the 2.7bn worldwide though. Hope it does...

i thought it was a good movie, but recycled so much from ANH and really didn't add much new to Star Wars. I really liked Rey and daisy ridley in the part, and Harrison Ford was better than i thought he'd be.

Cool that Episode VIII has begun as we are still coming off The Force Awakens and filming is nearly complete on Rouge One which may have a young Han Solo cameo and Disney is apparently really happy with. Started another Star Wars marathon yesterday with Episode I and watched Episode II today. I want to get the steelbook blu rays but I still have them on dvd and they'll be so many re-releases.
