I have no idea if I have posted on this thread before (that's what my short term memory is like) so in case I haven't. . .

1. You Only Live Twice
2. Live And Let Die
3. The Spy Who Loved Me
4. Die Another Day
5. Moonraker
6. Diamonds Are Forever
7. Goldeneye
8. The Living Daylights

The other films in the series are at best, 'good'. As for, From Russia With Love, Thunderball & Licence To Kill, I cannot rate them at all, as they represent not only the worst films in the series but some of the worst films I have ever seen.

Very, very hard. Would have to re-edit this until the end of my days, and still not get the order precisely right. But broadly:

1. Thunderball
2. Goldfinger
3. On Her Majesty

Dr No - a start. **

From Russia With Love - Coma inducing, sevearly overrated. Pains me to sit through this. Was Young drunk when he directed that last scene? *

Goldfinger - Now we're getting somewhere. Fantasy elements allowed to surface. ***

Thunderball - The worst Bond film ever produced. No redeeming qualities. *

You Only Live Twice - Bond as a Bond film should be. Stunning; sets; music; locations all outstanding and giving us something we had never been presented with before. *****

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Switzerland portions of this film are very atmospheric but so many other things do not work. Uninteresting Tracy, made worse by a very unappealing performance by Rigg. The dubbing on this film is so bad that it must rank as the best example of that in motion picture history. The weakest photographed of the series. Everything looks so dull. The editing is ludicrous. *

Diamonds Are Forever - Connery's finest; the wittiest script; fantastic locations; a holiday atmosphere. A feel good film. ****

Live And Let Die - One of the best. Roger is perfection in the role and unlike Connery, he is likeable and self effacing. Photography is Ted Moore's best; Cain's design excellent; the fresh score rousing and wonderfully diverting characters. ****

Man With The Golden Gun - Fantastic locations; a feast for the eyes; but let down by too many dumb characters. The main cast are intriguing to say the least but hampered by a script that needed more time to put things right. Another 'Bond on holiday' feel to this one. ***

The Spy Who Loved Me - A landmark in the series. The highest production values up to that time and it shows. The pace is perfect and all its action sequences still work even by todays standards. A feeling of everyone involved pushing the boat out. *****

Moonraker - Great scope. The best photographed of the series with a play on yellows and variations on yellow; the locations cannot and have never been bettered; Jaw droppingly eye catching; music; design all excellent. Only three, over the top humour scenes, detracted from the end result. Very colourful. *****

For Your Eyes Only - A major comedown after Moonraker. Dull characters and even duller storyline. Does have two of the very best action sequences in the series history; Bond/Melina beinging dragged underwater (no music; MUCH more effective) and the climb to St Cyril's. ***

Octopussy - India and Alan Hume's cinematography make this film. As a storyline it is uninteresting and protracted, especially the scenes in and around the circus and build to the fight on the train. Better than average dialogue and Jordan makes for an appealing villian. ***

Never Say Never Again - A mistake to remake another mistake. Without a doubt a film that has worse dubbing than O.H.M.S.S. A huge letdown and damaging to the series. Panned but atmospheric score. *

A View To A Kill - The worst screenplay in many a year; way too protracted and the climactic scene on the Goldedn Gate is cronic. Again the dubbing is terrible; Roger obviously dubbed when he had a cold and boy can we hear it; VERY distracting. Fantastic cast though. Bottom line, Maibaum/Wilson's script should not have been produced. **

The Living Daylights - Writing massively improved since the last outing. Dull cast, but surprisingly lots of intergrity, which came as a nice surprise. A classic feel to the film, but also a downbeat feeling runs through portons of it. All the characters badly dressed, including Bond and this Bond's low-key approach only works in some scenes. ***

Licence To Kill - A t.v. version of a Bond film. Appallingly badly directed and edited. Slow; univolving; cheap and derivitive. *

GoldenEye - Bond nearly back to where he should be. Well directed and the screenplay is very well paced. Fresh, moody and original score. Considering it cost nearly half as much as an Arnie film, they did a great job in making it look more expensive that it was. Lively dialogue by Jeffrey Caine. ****

Tomorrow Never Dies - Not as bad as Licence To Kill, but terribly dull. The screenplay lacks anything approaching freshness and the entire film feels bereft of at least two major action sequences. Its short pre-production period is felt throughout the entire film. Widescreen retailers NEVER stop screening this film on their sets. *

World Is Not Enough - Interesting in the sense that it is very obvious they wanted to concentrate on story and character. Slightly stodgy in too many places and badly photographed. Major fault is too many characters and not enough screen time to develop them as they should have been.
***

Die Another Day - Pared down screenplay; fast; inventive; surprising; and contains one hour (Iceland) that ranks as one of the most exciting & eye boggling hours in the series history. Brilliantly edited. Though has the worst Bond song with compromised titles and Cleese again giving an irritatingly threatrical performance. ****

Site newbie, figured this'd be a good place to start...

1. The Living Daylights
2. Goldeneye
3. From Russia With Love
4. For Your Eyes Only
5. Goldfinger
6. Octopussy
7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
8. The World Is Not Enough
9. Thunderball
10. Dr. No
11. Licence To Kill
12. You Only Live Twice
13. The Spy Who Loved Me
14. Tomorrow Never Dies
15. Live And Let Die
16. Diamonds Are Forever
17. A View To A Kill
18. Moonraker
19. The Man With The Golden Gun
20. Die Another Day

While I've seen Casino Royale('67) and Never Say Never Again, I thought they were beyond awful (whereas Die Another Day was just awful), and thus neglected to include them.

I agree with you about Licence (it's truelly dire) but From Russia With Love? It's not a title that comes to mind whenever I think of a 'bad' movie and I've seen a heck of a lot of movies.

diamonds are forever up 1 since i last rakend the films, OHMSS up 3
DAD, SWLM, GE, and FRWL all down one spot.

20) moonraker (falls off a cliff after the gondola scene)
19) die another day (the first 75 mins are top notch. the last half hour is terrible. brosnan phones it in, halle berry is terrible)
18) diamonds are forever (fun movie, poor ending)
17) a view to a kill (walken is good, moore is too old, uninspired bond girl)
16) octopussy (kind of boring, good performence by maud adams)
15) you only live twice (amazing theme song tho)
14) the man with a golden gun (interesting story, subpar production values)
13) the living daylights (confusing, opening and the post-titles)
12) the world is not enough (middle tends to drag, denise ritchards?)
11) dr. no (low budget production values, great introduction to bond)
10)for your eyes only (maybe moores best performence, somewhat weak story)
9) tomorrow never dies (paris carver is a fascenating character, rehashes TSWLM)
8) thunderball (great theme song, too much underwater)
7) live and let die (great introduction to moore, the boat chase is outstanding)
6) the spy who loved me (IMO, the grandest of the films, best visuals)
5) goldeneye (brosnan is great, best fight (bond and trevelyan))
4) from russia with love (connery really comes into the role here. not technically the first, but the first real bond film)
3) on her majesties secret service (outstanding music and top notch action, plus great visuals and storytelling, best blofeld)
2) goldfinger (still great, connerys best. best villian in the series)
1)licence to kill (third best villian, best performence in a bond film by bond, great girl, an outstanding "curveball" for the series)

Mine really hasn't changed too much.

21. NSNA
20. DAD
19. Octopussy
18. A View to a Kill
17. Licence to Kill
16. DAF
15. TMWTGG
14. TND

8. FYEO
7. Goldfinger
6. OHMSS
5. TLD
4. From Russia w/ Love

I never saw the CR spoof, so I didn't rate it. Anyway, that's mine, and just b/c it is low, does not mean I hate it or wouldn't own it. My biggest mover has been LTK< which I had at 20, before I joined here and saw it again. My biggest loser was Goldfinger, I have seen it too many times.

I notice how many lists change for fans over the years, but other than the addition of Die Another Day your list has not changed in 4 years. I remember back in the summer of 2001 on your web site Bondian Mayhem you had TWINE and TND last, and GF, FRWL, and TSWLM at the top. Some things will never change.

I recommend seeing it sometime to see just how different it is from the official series.
