It would be interesting to add up all the scores and see what the ranking was among CBn members.

For example, if a movie was #1 on the list it would get 1 point.

Then when the points are all added up the movie with the least points would be the top Bond film.

Then the movie with the second least points would be the #2 movie.

Of course that would be a very time consuming exercise, but perhaps we could divvy it up -- each take one page of the thread?! :)

It would certainly make Pal's job a lot easier than doing a full-fledged tournament, I suppose.

At the moment:

1) On Her Majesty's Secret Service
2) From Russia With Love
3) The Living Daylights
4) Thunderball
5) Licence To Kill
6) The World Is Not Enough
7) Goldfinger
8) The Spy Who Loved Me
9) GoldenEye
10) Dr No
11) For Your Eyes Only
12) Octopussy
13) Tomorrow Never Dies
14) Live And Let Die
15) Moonraker
16) You Only Live Twice
17) Die Another Day
18) A View To A Kill
19) The Man With The Golden Gun
20) Diamonds Are Forever

The last few do sometimes switch around, although Diamonds Are Forever is largely consistent at rock-bottom. Camp, tired and unfunny despite the focus on 'humour'. Such a waste when one wonders what a proper revenge-driven follow-up to On Her Majesty's Secret Service could have been. :)

Best of the best - nearly flawless films

1. DAF :) :) :)
2. FYEO
3. TLD
4. GE
5. FRWL

Extremely good, but with a few notable flaws

6. TSWLM
7. TMWTGG - seems to move up my rankings every time I watch it
8. NSNA
9. TWINE
10. GF - I still enjoy this one immensely, but it's dropped a bit. Other's just got better I guess!!
11. OP
12. DN

Enjoyable if I'm in the right mood, but not great

13. LALD
14. OHMSS

Not very good at all, but they still provide moments of great enjoyment

15. AVTAK - love the Beach Boys song!
16. MR - Am I the only one who finds Jaws falling in love hilarious?
17. TND - It started out well . . .
18. YOLT

Simply bad. There are some good moments, but I don't enjoy them at all
19. CR '67 - alright as a mid-60s comedy, but not really a Bond film
20. LTK - Bond's escape on the seaplane is classic, the rest is really bad
21. TB - "Do you mind if my friend sits this one out? She's just dead!" may be the best line in the series, but the film still is awful

A steaming pile of dog :) - one of the worst movies ever

22. DAD - the good moments in this film probably total less than 3 minutes.

Haven't ever seen the Barry Nelson CR, not that's it's a film anyway

Edited by right idea, wrong pussy, 12 September 2005 - 10:07 PM.

Like many other members, my list is "fluid", and adjusts from time-to-time.

I won't say "from best-to-worst", as even the three films at the end of my list have enjoyable qualities. From "favorite to least-favorite":

1. TSWLM
2. TLD
3. FYEO
4. OHMSS
5. TWINE
6. GE
7. FRWL
8. GF
9. LTK
10. TB
11. OP
12. TND
13. DN
14. DAF
15. DAD
16. MR
17. LALD
18. YOLT
19. TMWTGG
20. NSNA
21. AVTAK

This would have been different two years ago. I'm finding the Connery films, in general, to be relatively slow-paced; LALD has dated more embarrassingly [White Bread Meets Superfly] than any other film. It'll will likely have some adjustments in 2008 --- hopefully, Casino Royale will rank higher than Cabin Boy (wait, that was Chris Elliott, not Bond)... :)

In order, best to worst...

1. OHMSS - a masterpiece
2. Goldfinger - also a masterpiece
3. Octopussy - the best of the Moore Bonds
4. FRWL - coolest henchman
5. FYEO - a close second in the Moore department
6. Goldeneye - first Brosnan the best
7. Thunderball - a classic
8. The Living Daylights - don't let the convoluted plot confuse you
9. You Only Live Twice - love the volcano locale
10. The Spy Who Loved Me - same plot, different Bond
11. TWINE - Brosnan is good in this one, final act is weak
12. License to Kill - good idea with Bond gone rogue agent
13. Die Another Day - too much homage, not enough story (and CGI = bad)
14. Live and Let Die - 007's newest enemy - blaxploitation
15. Dr. No - would have loved this story later on
16. Tomorrow Never Dies - too many machine guns
17. AVTAK - the geriatric Bond. Best use of famous landmarks.
18. Moonraker - strains credibility. Best locales of any Bond movie.
19. The Man with the Golden Gun - Goodnight, goodnight.
20. Diamonds are Forever - stupid, stupid. One-liners save it.

I did this a while ago just out of boredom in my blog (also, I never have anything of interest to put in there.)

Mine even has quotes! Apologies for the length.

20. The World Is Not Enough (Brosnan, 1999)
"You can't kill me. You'd miss me."
"I never miss."

19. A View To A Kill (Moore, 1985)
"This'll hurt him more than me."

18. Moonraker (Moore, 1979)
"You missed, Mr. Bond."
"Did I?"

17. Die Another Day (Brosnan, 2002)
"Just surviving, Mr. Chang. Just surviving."

16. Diamonds Are Forever (Connery, 1971)
"Thank you very much. I was just out walking my rat and seemed to have lost my way."

15. Live and Let Die (Moore, 1973)
"SECRET AGENT? On who's side?!?"

14. You Only Live Twice (Connery, 1967)
"That was stirred, not shaken, is that right?"
"Yes...perfect."

13. The Living Daylights (1987)
"We have nothing to declare!"
"Except a cello!"

12. Octopussy (Moore, 1983)
"Englishman. Likes eggs, preferably faberge...and dice, preferably loaded."

11. Tomorrow Never Dies (Brosnan, 1997)
"You were pretty good with that hook."
"Thanks. It comes with growing up in a rough neighbourhood. You were pretty good on that bike."
"Thanks. It comes from not growing up at all."

10. The Man With the Golden Gun (Moore, 1975)
"Ours is the lonliest profession, Mr. Bond."

9. Goldfinger (Connery, 1964)
"My name is Pussy Galore."
"I must be dreaming."

8. For Your Eyes Only (Moore, 1981)
"Now put your clothes back on and I'll buy you an ice cream."

7. Dr. No (Connery, 1962)

"I admire your courage, miss...?"
"Trench. Sylvia Trench. And I admire your luck, Mr...?
"Bond. James Bond."

6. Licence To Kill (Dalton, 1989)
"You could have had everything!"
"Don't you even want to know WHY?"

5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Lazenby, 1969)
"This never happend to the other fellow."

4. Goldeneye (Brosnan, 1995)
"For England, James?"
"No. For me."

3. From Russia With Love (Connery, 1962)
"I think my mouth is too big..."
"It's a perfect fit. For me, anyways."

2. The Spy Who Loved Me (Moore, 1977)
"But James, I need you!"
"So does England!"

1. Thunderball (Connery, 1965)
"I hope we didn't scare the fishes."

020 - MOONRAKER

View Post

:) :) :)

Why there?

View Post

...Because to my mind:

a) Roger Moore is not very exciting as Bond (except in LALD, TSWLM & FYEO) :)
:) Lois Chiles doesn't play an interesting character :) ; I really prefer Corinne Clery's part.
c) The action in space (especially the battle of astronauts) is a complete failure, which is a pity when the first half of the film is quite good (in Venice and Rio). :)
d) (because of...) many other ridiculous moments such as the rolling gondola, Bond's wearing a poncho... :)

All those reasons makes me feel that Moonraker is rather a fake copy of Starwars...

Here's the current ranking, and this is favorite ranking, not necessarily film quality (though, of course, film quality definitely plays into it, and for aid, I've notated the "quality" ranking beside each entry):

First - the two Daltons
1. LTK
2. TLD

The next 4 because of their brilliant villains
3. TND
5. GF
6. TB
7. AVTAK

Just because of the atmosphere
8. FRWL

Fantastic first part - but loses then a lot.
9. DAD

Not brilliant but not too bad
10. FYEO
11. TWINE
12. LALD
13. GE

Of course, OHMSS is a movie which opened the way for Dalton, but I don't appreciate this whole grey-bond twist.
14. OHMSS

The next 2 have nothing extraordenary imo
15. DAF
16. OP

The last 4 I just don't like at all, especially YOLT is disgusting - at least to me.
17. MR
18. DN
19. TMWTGG
20. YOLT
